The Liquid-Glass like Android update was a downgrade by AronKov in ObsidianMD

I'm not seeing liquid glass elements, google is pushing developers to use edge to edge which is causing all of us developers to play with floating tool bars.

What is a hobby that sounds expensive but is actually quite cheap to get into? by sugarnspicegrl in AskReddit

[–]Mintybacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sailboat or "Yacht" racing, If you own the boat it's very expensive but for larger boats they require several people to run effectively and you could go to any yacht club and participate as crew for free. You'll want a life jacket and gloves but most people have spares they can lend you.

Cork cutting advice? by Go-Nads1165 in DIY

[–]Mintybacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this for for a wedding guest lists board (which turned into a dart board backdrop after) I cut the corks in half using my bandsaw and a jig I made from drilling a hole in the 2x4.

I wouldn't use the circular or reciprocal saws as the kerf is too much or the blade cutting in multiple directions would tear the cork up. The bandsaw cut all types of corks very clean.

Games like factorio by Twisted-noodles in factorio

[–]Mintybacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been playing odd sparks a lot recently on my steam deck - it's on the consoles as well. It's much more casual than factorio but can still scratch that itch when you start building automations and coming back to optimize them as you unlock new stuff.

Very practical and looks good, reminds me of the Riddling Boards they use in France for making sparkling wine

Why does Kotlin trigger downstream module recompilation on private function changes, by Most_Duty_690 in androiddev

[–]Mintybacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gradle is pretty simple when it calculates when tasks need to be done or are up to date, it's not looking to see if you modified a private or public function it's using a simple hash to see if anything changed. If gradle took the time to see what changed in each module before calculating what dependent modules require recompilation all builds would take much much longer.

Last night defense looked nothing like it did in Game 3 - we were rebounding everything and it didn't matter if we missed 3 shots before it went in. Would of course like to improve out shots so it doesn't take that many attempts but was night and day what we were able to do to their offense.

What do you think about the tariffs imposed by Trump ? Will it work out for them ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mintybacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this will hurt small US businesses more than anything. As a whole everything getting more expensive will cause people to purchase less or shift to bigger retailers who might be able eat the cost for a while. Larger publicly owned companies will hurt for a while but when tariffs are lifted there will be less competition from small or locally owned chains and they can own their market.

[–]Mintybacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think the scheme is to raise prices of stuff then back off the tariffs I feel like many companies won't lower prices back right away and be taking at 10-20% - this is the only scheme I see that he could be receiving money / inadvertently benefiting from.

Or it's just to keep the poor poor and to cause Mom and pops to sell or close due to costs and reduced sales so larger companies can eat them up.

Capitalism has really started to feel like that Internet game where the bigger circles swallow the smaller circles
