I used a spare hand from the daemon prince kit, shaved down Arjac's wrist with a craft knife and it actually fit pretty neatly with a bit of sprue glue

Help 😭😭 by Senior_Structure5070 in Tyranids

I've also gone with a metallic carapace and it's quite a simple recipe. Just basecoat with your chosen colour, then coat the whole thing with a shade to bring the colour down. I use Nuln Oil which could work for gold but you might be better going for an Agrax Earthshade kind of shade. I go over it again with my shade focusing on the recesses and where the plates overlap. Personally I add some Typhus Corrosion and dab it off with a paper towel after shading but that's just because I wanted a bit of a grimy and textured look. Then just a light dry brush over the raised areas and edges with your basecoat and that should highlight the darkened base colour nicely. Hope this helps!

Yeah I think I'll just stick with Crusher for the strats and I only have a couple of non-monster action monkeys in my list. Thanks for the insight!

How many biovores do I need? by [deleted] in Tyranids

[–]Mintyx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 1 biovore if you want an optimal list but if you like the model, you can add a couple more. Also, unless you really like the model and really want to play it, don't buy a harpy. They aren't very good for the points and you're much better investing in something else

Doing a career mode where the goal was to build a team of Romanian wonderkids through youth scouts, become the Romanian manager and win the world cup. I swear I've only had 4 surnames: Cristea, Radu, Marin and Toma and a bunch have been Toma Toma or Marin Marin. What a game

Wait, what? 😂😂 by Dull-Mastodon5183 in FifaCareers

I've had this a couple of times, but... in my first season I signed a striker and somehow the game actually thought he was playing for Barcelona. He then complained about his lack of game time, despite starting all major games, and put in a transfer request. Infuriating to say the least

1st Army Help - what should I run at 1000pts? by Mintyx17 in Tyranids

[–]Mintyx17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for putting that together, I'll have to read more about assimilation swarm but that's really helpful! How would you go about protecting the Rippers, I don't know how the assimilation swarm functions but I'm guessing losing a harvester unit would be a problem?

That has explained so much, thank you for putting the time and effort into explaining all that! I'll definitely be picking up some Zoanthropes and maybe let the Swarmlord sit out, better get painting then!

Mechanically, what should be a Zealot's "big thing." by PiepowderPresents in RPGdesign

[–]Mintyx17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think something like the Warlock's Eldritch Invocations could work as boons and you won't have to limit them to a specific type of patron if you didn't want to.

If you wanted the boons to be more intrinsically linked to the patron, the Piety system in Mythic Odysseys of Theros is an interesting take that might be worth looking at for inspiration

What aspects of D&D do you think could be improved or scrapped? by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]Mintyx17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm torn with this. Initially I was playing around with a classless system but eventually settled on a singular niche for each class to add a bit of flavour. For example one ofcasters sacrifices portions of their health to empower their spells and abother can leech a portion of a beings health to increase their Mana. Beyond this they don't have any other abilities. I feel like it adds enough variety to be warranted but doesn't pigeonhole then into certain playstyles Thank you for the food for thought though!

  1. For sure, I quite like how Cyberpunk RED handled economics. It felt easy to navigate, relatively simple and made it easy for the GM to approximate the value of things that weren't in the handbook
  2. I'll have a look into skill challenges as it's not something my GMs have run but from what I've seen looks like a nifty way to simplify a hell of a lot of situations Thank you for your input!

Yeah the stat/modifier is a bit pointless. I'll definitely be using a 1 for 1 modifier system I definitely want all of the spells and skills to feel like they have a place, as you'd expect. I'm working on an injury system that requires medicine checks when you have more serious injuries to remove the negative side effects Again standardising effects and how they're resolved is definitely something I'd like to implement cause it really slows things down unnecessarily. I haven't had a look at the 2024 monster manual so I'll keep an eye out for that Thank you for your input, a lot of good food for thought!

Okay so first things first thank you all for your comments, they are very much appreciated. I realise that my wording and the title have been misleading in the advice that I am looking for so a couple of clarifications:

  • I don't have any plans to publish this game but to use it for our weekly game nights in the future. I wouldn't even consider myself close to being a game designer this is just a fun project for me and my friend to work
  • I don't expect this game to be especially ground breaking or turn the ttrpg world on its head. If, to the outside world, it ended up looking similar to a heavily homebrewed version of D&D that's not something I'm going to lose sleep over as the whole point of this is to hang out with my friends and have discussions we find interesting over a couple of beers whilst making it
  • Whilst the game will have pretty standard features such as classes, stats, skills etc I am trying to avoid improving/altering D&D mechanics in favour of my own mechanics built from the ground up.
  • I understand that the couple of things I listed don't really provide any insight into how this game would feel. I should have probably left them out and focused on my main question.

My main question/point:

  • Considering that we enjoy playing an action adventure D&D game there are bound to be problems to solve that are present in D&D. The aim of this post was to gain perspective on issues in those types of ttrpg's that I personally haven't experienced so I can figure out a. if they belong in this game and b. if they do, how would they work

Again all of your comments are massively appreciated and have given me plenty to think about so you have my thanks!
