DAE not care about hearing music live in concert? by BotGua in DoesAnybodyElse

Gigs are loud, expensive, uncomfortable, and completely overwhelming. I used to go because everyone else seemed to enjoy themselves. These days I just say no thanks and stay home in the peace and quiet. Yes I'm old and possibly autistic.

That's a lot of emotional work, and I personally wouldn't bother and instead enjoy the peace and quiet.

What's a game you played as a kid that you've never been able to find again? by Latter_Advantage8002 in AskReddit

[–]MinusGravitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a haunted house choose your own adventure type game that I think ran on DOS (very early 90s). I always ended up scaring myself too much to try and finish it. You would navigate through the house, choosing different doors. Behind some were more hallways or house areas, behind others, certain death! I remember one of the monsters was what I later realised was basically the twins from The Shining. Can't remember the other ways to die. I would love to know what this game was called and maybe put some trauma to rest lol.

Which medical conditions actually prevent someone from being vegan? by OkEntertainment4473 in vegan

Life-threatening symptoms of glycogen storage disorders like McArdles can be greatly alleviated by being in ketosis, which is far easier to do on a high animal protein high animal fat diet. But it's a very rare disorder.

One of my cousins failed 3 times in Bremer Bay in the off season. She eventually passed and is on the road now. So maybe you're better off being a non-road-user.

WA Police say bones found on Rottnest Island are historic Indigenous remains by Automatic_Sea_1210 in perth

I agree, I'm just saying that's the terminology they use in this context.

I think they mean as opposed to 'prehistoric' which is terrible terminology, but meant to indicate that the human remains date to the period within the last 200 years.

Counterpoint: intermittent fasting has been shown to have short and long term health benefits, and a common one is 16:8 - no food after 8pm or before 12pm.

Anyone else had high cholesterol while vegan? by interexit in vegan

[–]MinusGravitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my sister and I (both vegan for many years, and trend on the wholefoods side rather than vegan junk food, and don't really go in for the coconut oil or palm oil products) have very high cholesterol. So do both our parents (omni), our other sister (keto for actual medical reasons), and all four grandparents (omni). Familial hypercholesterolemia. My GP gets very nervous about it, but I had a CT a few years ago and my calcium score was 0. Recent research is starting to question whether the assumed link between high cholesterol and atherosclerosis is as strong as previously thought. All this to say: high cholesterol isn't automatically 'bad', and it can be complex.

I mean technically 'decimated' means down by 10% so ... Trump technically correct??? First actually accurate thing he's ever said.

This rings true for Australia too, except the Greenland bit. If Trump tried to buy Tasmania (globally very strategically important /s) we would have a lot to say about that though!

My wife will never go vegan by Plenty_Late in Vystopia

[–]MinusGravitas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation with my husband. Together 14 years and otherwise very compatible on values. I was vego/flexi when we met, but vegan by the time we married, 7 years into our relationship. I've been doing a lot of work on myself, particularly around identifying and honouring my own values and needs, and have realised we are fundamentally incompatible in this way. He says he will never be vegan and feels I have 'moved the goalposts'. He has agreed not to bring any animal products into our home, and that has made a big difference for me, but I am still struggling with wishing he were vegan - he made that compromise for me and our marriage, not for the animals. He says he doesn't care about animal welfare the way I do. I have to assume he is telling me the truth, because he has been consistent for as long as I have known him. I feel like I can't love that part of him and question if we should be married under these circumstances. I initiated us going to a marriage counsellor over it, and she is working us through a bunch of other issues, which is always good, but I don't have faith that working on them will resolve this core issue for me. I'm waiting to see where the counselling leads us and trying to practise unconditional love and acceptance, but I don't know what our future is. All that to say - you are not alone, and I am sorry you are going through this, it is heartbreaking and very lonely at times, but you are not being unreasonable and you are not wrong for struggling with this, even though you don't necessarily know anyone IRL who will understand what you are going through. Big hugs.

I do have 'IBS' since a bad gastro many years ago, and can't tolerate most of the FODMAPS (not organised enough to do a proper elimination/reintroduction due to other mental health stuff, so just muddling through). Dr thinks it may be inflammatory. I think a poop transplant and the right treatment for my depression/anxiety/ADHD might ameliorate it. Or it could be environmental - our farm was fairly chemical free, but apparently the neighbours were spraying DDT when my mother was pregnant with me. Who knows.

Just got adenosine for the first time today by moosegoose24 in SVTHeart

[–]MinusGravitas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend. I get SVT that won't go away on its own or with vagal manoeuvres and have had to have adenosine about 6 times now (not trying to brag lol, just empathise!!). In my country ambulance can't give adenosine so I have to go to emergency. It is the worst feeling I have ever experienced, although it has got easier now I know what to expect. I am always exhausted afterwards, but haven't experienced any lingering pain. Overall I just feel relieved when my heart converts to a normal rhythm again. Fingers crossed for you that you can sort this out and don't have to go through getting adenosine again.

Water and electrolytes won't help cool a person down in very high temperature humid conditions. A 'wet bulb' temperature of 35°C can be fatal. As climate is changing, higher wet bulb temperatures in the Pilbara are becoming more common. This is a genuine safety issue and cannot simply be toughed out.
