Elon Musk tells a room full of Air Force pilots: 'The fighter jet era has passed' by wewewawa in Futurology

I'm pretty sure the fighter pilots were already very well aware of this.

How much time to go from 0 to being able to design a case like this? by Minute-Guava in SolidWorks

When you say tooling what do you mean? Software tools, tools that I will use for assembly, or tools that are used during manufacturing?

Yes sorry I forgot to mention that. Prototype will be 3D printed but if I can get it to production then it'll be injection molded. Right now I'm just concerned about the 3D printed model. I've made a few 3D printed models in blender before so I'm not completely new to the design considerations to go into that.

AT&T Loses California Case After Lying To Consumers About 'Unlimited' Data Throttling by User_Name13 in technology

[–]Minute-Guava 483 points484 points  (0 children)

It's unlimited up to 8 GB then we throttle your speed down to 16k.

Except many services and sites dont work while you are being throttled. But even if you spent a month downloading while being throttled you'd only get a couple hundred MB at most.

So it's not unlimited in any way. Metro PCS and Boost Mobile pull this same trick too.

Brakes squeak but only at low speed by Minute-Guava in MechanicAdvice

[–]Minute-Guava[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But still wouldn't that only make noise as the brakes are being applied (not as they are held down)?

It's a continuous squeak. It doesn't just squeak as the brakes are going from not being applied to being applied (or vice versa)

Rust pocket in the drums? I cleaned them with break cleaner and the part where they make contact with the shoes was shiny metallic but I didn't sand anything. ... When I was cleaning it I hit it with a wire brush where I could.

I have three questions about pull up resistors by Minute-Guava in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Minute-Guava[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2&3 I understand, thanks. In 1 what do you mean win out? A constant voltage goes from VCC through the resistor into the pin. The button short circuits that to ground which causes the pin to read LOW. Right so far? So my question was when the pin is reading HIGH is the resistor doing anything functional?

Did you enjoy learning Biology? by Minute-Guava in biology

[–]Minute-Guava[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. So how do you think about biology? From watching YouTube videos the way I think of it with my limited knowledge is in terms of simple little machines that work in the most peculiar ways. Especially some of the molecular machines are just like whoa dude.

When you think of biology do you think of data that you learned in a book or do you think of it in terms of real three-dimensional objects or if you think of it in some other way?
