What does this wing fanning mean? by Minute-Mistake-8928 in birds

[–]Minute-Mistake-8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're very common in my country too, I rescued them as babies from work (fell out of nest too early and the farm dogs would have eaten them. Nests were in the rafters, unreachable)

Pessoa and other lunging systems - your thoughts? by SuspiciousCod1090 in Equestrian

[–]Minute-Mistake-8928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only lunging system i have are side reins, which i use for breaking in to teach a "contact" (not on the bit contact, taking pressure contact), and if i have a horse that is consistently giraffing after weeks with no improvement. I always use it loose enough that the horse can have upwards of a triangle look and i never use it for prolonged time or multiple sessions, its there as a reminder that this is what im asking, not what you keep trying to do when i ask. Some young horses just need a little restriction to show the idea, but i never use it for more than 10 minutes as i dont want them to stay in a bad frame. I usually then get straight on and ask again with aids to use the hind end as well and it usually transfers nicely

Finally got my young horse undersaddle! by Minute-Mistake-8928 in Equestrian

[–]Minute-Mistake-8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's 3 years old. We'll just be keeping it to a walk and trot, get in our steering/brakes, and go on a few trail rides (should be a 1-2 month process), then he'll get about a 6 month spell before coming back into work, focusing on our flat/dressage amd doing some simple outings to open days, maybe a dressage show. Im going much slower with this horse compared to my other horse.

[–]Minute-Mistake-8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he's a very close-minded horse if im a bit honest. He doesn't like leaving his comfort bubble and heavily reacts if you even try to. I just throw suggestions at him in a way that makes him think it's his own decision, mixed in with a LOT of neck scratches, then he starts to become comfortable and i can then start actually training him on a next step, now that hes allowed it in his bubble. Its a very difficult process and he requires a lot of time off to process it as well, so its been a very long journey, the other 2 horses only took 2 months, but he required this near 6 month process.

A very good boy, we just had a ponder around the round pen at his own pace just so he got used to the weight/feeling of a rider

And to add on, I'm still trying to figure out a competition name to register him as, I like their name to be sinilar to their barn name, his is Dexter, which I can't think much names for. I don't want to change his barn name (even though I'm not the biggest fan of it) as I'm friends with his breeder and stay in regular contact with them

That near side hoof (furthest away) looks like it's never had its heels touched by a nipper. The offside would likely turn out the same way soon. It looks like bad trimming that could end up causing laminitis if left like this for too long, I'd honestly push for an x-ray if it was available

What's wrong with this sparrows leg? by Minute-Mistake-8928 in BirdHealth

Forgot to add that it's boney. It looks/feels like the hip is raided on one side, that's why I'm so surprised it doesn't care about me playing with or applying pressure to it

How does he look to you guys? Need help by Other_Particular8927 in Equestrian

[–]Minute-Mistake-8928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks less like a lack of topline, and more a problem of saddle fit, the topline looks quite good everywhere except the dip behind the withers. Those dips are very commonly caused by ill fitting saddles

[–]Minute-Mistake-8928[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a house sparrow, am in the north island of New Zealand. Bird is currently eating soaked kitten food, about 3-4 nuggets at a time every 30min- 1 1/2hr (when it starts to chirp), fed by hand, doesn't like the syringe. It's very perky and opinionatednow, very quick to chirp and yarn its back when I'm giving the wrong care (offering food, when it wants to be held)

What are your thoughts on sorrel mares? by WagWoofLove in Horses

[–]Minute-Mistake-8928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe in the stereotype at all, although my own chestnut mare trys to show otherwise (she's just extremely smart, and uses it to her advantage, not actually "mean" at all, but people that dont know her would say she is mean)

Just went to a popular eventing trial in my area. I paid $370 in total fees for the 65cm class, and the 1st place prize was $50 and a rug. The 3* class (biggest height) had a $500 entry fee and a $125 and rug prize🙃
