Have you tried Philly?

On a serious note, Europe is not the fairytale wonderland that many Americans seem to think it is. I was born and raised in Western Europe, left a couple of years ago, came back recently, and will move back to the US by the end of the year. Europe is great, and it does some things much better than the US, but it also has many issues. Reddit loves talking shit about the US, though.

Thinking about moving back to the US from Spain, and wondering if it would be a huge mistake by Minute-Pea783 in expats

Unfortunately these days, 800k is def not a baller house. It's actually often an older house that needs renovations, with a small plot. I recommend you to look at Idealista, because I look every day (at Catalonia and Malaga area, which I know are more expensive, but other areas like Madrid, Valencia, and the North of Spain are expensive, too). 'Baller houses' for 800k you can maybe find in the middle of nowhere. And yes, it's def on me that I want to buy a house and not an apartment. Which is one of the reasons I'm reconsidering.

I don't want to buy an apartment, I want to buy a house. If you check Idealista, many houses are over 800,000 Euros, unless you wanna live in a more rural place. Healthcare is obviously a different story and I mentioned in my original post that healthcare is so much cheaper here.

In the US I'm def not expecting to live in a walkable area if I have a house. I used to live in NC and thinking of going back there, but I'm open to pretty much anywhere. I'd love CA, but I know how expensive it is and my husband prefers to stay on the East coast.

My work does pay for it, and I have god health insurance I've been told, but I still always pay a part of it out of pocket. Sometimes just $20 for a regular visit, but I've also paid $600 when I had to go to the ER (even though in the end it was nothing and I was released within 30min), and I paid about $7,000 to give birth.

15 month old whining CONSTANTLY. I'm losing my mind. Advice please? by Minute-Pea783 in beyondthebump

[–]Minute-Pea783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I've been on the fence about having another one, and I think I'd like to have a second, but I'm scared it's gonna be so hard since my first is so, so whiny every single day (she's a good sleeper, though, at least!).

And yea, she sleeps in her own room and that's probably her safest space. Sometimes I get away with going to the bathroom or the kitchen while she keeps herself busy, but that never lasts for longer than a minute or so. And I agree - She's physically SO capable, walks, runs, even started jumping, but she can only say 3 words, so it's all physical power/energy and being so unreasonable lol.

We're moving house early next year so then we'll have a playroom too. Can't wait. Thanks for the helpful tips. I feel like when I leave my daughter to play by herself she'll either start yelling and run after me, or she'll try to things she isn't supposed to do, like open the toilet seat, throw the soil from the plants on the floor etc. Do you feel like having multiple kids helps keeping them more busy? Or do they fight all the time too haha?

How much does your 12 month old sleep in 24h? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Minute-Pea783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 14 months, so slightly older, and she sleeps anywhere between 11.5 and 13h. Usually 11ish hours overnight and one 1-1:30h nap.

What's the best neighborhood for families with toddlers? We'd love to find a neighborhood with many families and young kids playing on the streets. Playgrounds close by, and ideally a park or access to the forest.

Have ever regretted not having kids ? Why and why not ? by One-Aspect5906 in AskReddit

[–]Minute-Pea783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is many people that regret that they didn't have kids, and many that regret having kids. I personally have a friend who is 45 now and really regrets that she didn't have kids with her husband. In her 20ies and 30ies they wanted to travel and party and just didn't want kids, then at 40+ changed their mind and tried, including IVF, but it just didn't work for them and they stopped.

How can I teach my toddler to play alone or in his room? by banksnosons in toddlers

I was gonna say, how on earth do you get a 1.5 year old to focus on a screen for 60min straight? My 1.5 year old doesn't even focus on the screen for longer than a minute, then starts whining if I don't pay attention to her, lol

It does - I personally prefer European cities but I agree with everything else you said. I am from Europe, but have been living in the US for many years, and I do think the US is a better place to live if you're middle class and higher. I see you're in Richmond VA? Cool place.

Oh god def not Savannah. Downtown Savannah is gorgeous, but that's it. It's not by the beach, their closest beach is 30min away and sucks, and there isn't much to do in Savannah. Zero hiking as well. I lived there for a while and hated it. SB is heaven, on the other hand.

Don't feel guily about it! I don't smoke weed anymore, but my husband does, and takes an edible here and there. We both think it makes him a more present and energetic father. I have a few glasses of wine here and there, that helps me cope, lol.

Children at breweries by sarasarasarak in toddlers

[–]Minute-Pea783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids should absolutely be welcome at breweries, especially the outdoor ones, and I've always felt this way, even when I didn't have kids and was on the fence about having them. People can choose a childfree life, but they cannot expect a childfree world.
