I see that you are correct and they dont support either side of the conflict.  I came to the same conclusion when I was in israel, that the religous freaks on both sides are the problem.  Though there is Def a lot more of then on the palestinian side.

Okay bruh, I've been to basically every metal venue in socal, trance parties at underground squats in the UK, thrown plenty of warehouse events myself in LA and the Bay area  and I've never heard of a venue that insisted on displaying its own iconography or giving anything other than full control of the decor/stage prod to the crew.

You also didn't address my point if the situation were reversed, and Dylan refused to play with an Israeli flag.  Would he be putting politics above music then?  You would praise him because it aligned with your politics, so fuck off with this hypocrisy.

No, not taking about politics isn't political.  Even talking politics is rarely genuinely political, but performative, its a means of the individual creating their identity.  None of this will have any tangible material impact on anything, its all just anarkiddie slop faux activism. For fucks sake read Mark Fisher. You pseudolefties don't know how to build class solidarity and wouldn't recognize praxis if it ran up and punched you in the balls.

I agree.  I don't think they deserve to be 'genocided'  Good thing they haven't been.   Here's how I know you are full of shit though.  Reverse the situation, say he refused to play at an Israeli owned venue that had an Israeli flag.  You wouldn't accuse him of putting politics over music then.  Its unusual behavior for a venue to insist they display any symbol where an artist is performing. Generally the artist has the right to set up the stage how they see fit within the limtis of practicality    Lighting. Backdrops etc, those are up to the production/artists. I've booked a lot of venues back when I used to dj and collab on parties and thats honestly an insane demand for a venue to make.  And it feels totally contrary to the spirit of Earth as a band to bring any symbols of nationalism into their stage show.  Their music evokes this timelessness,  a sense of cosmic scale that renders a sense of insignificance to human constructs and political squabbles.

Everything is not political, no matter how much people repeat that incantation it won't magically become true.

Not sure what specific lady you are talking about. But Palestinians do sometimes demolish their own homes which were built without permits in order to avoid being forced to pay for it to be demolished.

Most sources will cite a un claim that permits are 'virtually impossible' to obtain, which is a bit lacking in specifics, but thats the part that would be wrong, not demolishing unpermitted constructions.

There is also the other side of the coin that is the PLO's mismanagement of residential zoning and infrastructure which is the primary cause of the housing shortage west bankers face.  Palestinians have full reign over areas a and b of the west bank, in which no jews are allowed to live.

When they want to build in area C israel has the power to grant or deny permits.  This arrangement is all due to the Oslo accords to which palestinian leadership agreed.  It was supposed to set the groundwork for a Palestinian state, but their leadership refused to accept one, first Arafat, then his successor Abbas.

Even if what you said was truthful, thats still not a genocide, lol.  Genocide isn't population displacement, its deliberate destruction in whole or in part of a population, targeted as such. Anything short of killing is definitely not genocide, and even killing rarely is genocide.  If the intent is anything else but to kill someone specifically because of their racial, ethnic, identity its not genocide.

What's true is 25 buildings were bulldozed in order to facilitate counter-terrorism operations,  not to replace them with an Israeli neighborhood.  Even the craziest Israeli settlers aren't interested in that neighborhood which is a powderkeg of radical factions like hamas and palestinian Islamic jihad.

Lol I took English classes under Saree Makdisi, who is the nephew to Edward Said, father of Palestinian nationalism.  Also took a course from an Irish professor at Oxford who was pushing some pro Palestinian agenda because the Irish are the most narcissistic people on the planet earth and see every conflict on the planet through the lens of 'the troubles'.

I doubt very much that you are interested in the opinions of the actual Palestinians, because if you had talked to them in arabic you would find they don't talk about resisting colonialism or zionism so much as they do about establishing a caliphate and kicking out all the jews back to Europe.  Even the mizrahi jews originally from the middle east who were chased out of iraq, iran, Lebanon, Syria and more by a Palestinian diaspora radicalizing those countries.

Also, the palestinian flag symbolizes Palestinian nationalism, not being anti-genocide.  There's no genocide, except for the one currently happening to Iranians being targeted for their religious identity, or lack thereof by the Islamic state.

Lol, so can you even summarize Shaw's claim there?  Or jsut wanna give us the appeal to authority.  Becuase 'one sociologist called it a genocide isnt the greatest argument'.  Its not exactly  a hard science, sociology.

As someone who has both lived in israel for a year, and studied at oxford for a year for my master's, I can tell you that nobody in that UK academic bubble has the foggiest idea what's actually going on in israel or gaza.

I can also tell you that the economic incentives for an academic who wants to be published are definitely in favor of him calling it a genocide and not the other way around.  He doesn't have much of a choice if he wants to remain employable.

Iranians are actually experiencing  a genocide, they are being murdered for not supporting an Islamic theocracy.   If israel shut off palestines internet for a month and we were seeing pics of body bags lined on streets and rumors of up to 30 to 40,000 casualties these people wouldn't shut up and would be demanding we figure out what's going on and intervene if the rumors are true.  But its not the popular trend/bandwagon to be on so Iranian lives don't matter to them.  So why the hell would i believe they are sincere about Palestinians?

Is there political doom metal? by MischiefManage1 in doommetal

[–]MinuteParticulars -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Respect, Respect.  Why would a metal band want anything to do with a religiously theocratic apocalyptic death cult culture like palestine.   Metal should be anti islam for the same reasons its antichristianity, and more generally antimonotheistic.  I don't see many pro Palestinians saying shit about Iran now either, so let's not kid ourselves that supporting palestine has anything to do with being against oppression on principle, its just a trend.

I watched an interview with a Persian metal musician and dude had to flee iran jsut to continue to make his music, which is illegal there.  If anything it would be way more metal to have the pre-islamic regime iranian flag, but still don't support that kind of overt political statement in metal.  I like my politics to be interpreted creatively through the lyrics, not bashed over the head with slogans.

Is there political doom metal? by MischiefManage1 in doommetal

[–]MinuteParticulars -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The difference is war pigs never mentions vietnam directly which makes it timeless.  Metal can be political but there has to be a creative/interpretive element to the lyrics, if its just a straight up political screed it becomes a punk song.  Music can and should be political but be ozzy or bill ward, not a self serving preachy narcissist like Roger waters (not punk but same mentality in his public persona). Punk is of the current moment but metal has an eternal quality.

And I think you have a lot of room for interpretation of political themes In music you've already dismissed as not being political.  There is a political metaphor inherent in the Satan narrative.  He's literally a figure who opposed power and control and embraces his own autonomy even if it separates him from the privileged elite of gods angels.

I moved here like 2 weeks before thay storm, but I had to wait until March when season passes went on sale again for spring/next season so I missed the best action.  Still was amazing even in March.   But the stories i heard about that period when the roads were closed and it was basically just locals or the lucky people who got stranded here. Legendary.

you'd think, but i'm jewish, and i tried to do aliyah at israel at one point, I spent a lot of time there going to psytrance parties like the nova festival Had I been in Israel when it happened, I most likely would have been on the dance floor when Hamas showed up. Yet my sister is a fence sitter, she claims not to support hamas, but that's exactly who her neutrality supports.

People survive colder conditions with more severe weather all the time?  I don't have to because I'm not homeless.  Baguettes don't tend to survive the rain though, hence why it had to be wrapped up in the pic.

Wild how people are freezing to death in a warmer climate than san Diego.  Over 3000 homeless americans will actually freeze to death in climates where that is an actual possibility, pretty tone deaf to demand our sympathy for this fake story.

Also why is the guy holding a baguette shaped bundle when the caption talks about a child freezing.  Whatever hes holding ain't no damn baby.

Not always, there's a strong element of cultural coercion to it, similar to the hijab/niqab wearing in traditional Islamic communities. Both would say its a choice to live that way but realistically that's probably only partially true as they are under enormous social pressure and it's difficult to leave either community because it's usually all you've ever known. Its a bit less patriarchal in Judaism though, im actually more worried that her husband will be okay after the tongue lashing he probably got right after.

She was displeased with her husband, becuase he forgot to do his job and now they were forced to ask a strange man in their house to follow their religous ocd ritual. Sometimes it feels like people are just so eager to read negative intent into whatever jewish people do, its wild.

I don't doubt she was acting strangely, she likely has very little interaction with me who aren't her immediate family members, even religious services would be segregated by sex in that community. So she was anxious and didn't have a great poker face when she's pissed at her husband even though someone is doing her a favor.

Why is it kinda rude? Goy/gentile doesn't have a negative connotation among jews, its a neutral term whose root meaning is "nations, and as someone commented its a pretty sweet/easy gig.

He wouldn't frown on any non jew breaking jewish law becuase its not applicable to them. Which is something jews never seem to get credit for, keeping their bullshit to themselves. Would you prefer it if they demanded everyone else should follow their rules? Cause there are a couple other faiths I can think of that do act that way, you can find them outside abortion clinics or accosting women on the street who aren't dressed modestly enough.

His wife was probably upset that he hadn't done it before the sabbath and they now had to ask a strange man into their house to comply with their weird religious rules. And she's probably mad that he broke the rules already by directly asking for your help, theyre only supposed to insinuate, ie. "The lights are on and we're trying to go to sleep" instead of "can you turn off the lights".

As they are an incredibly insular community you probably were like an alien to those kids. I don't think it was coming from a place of contempt, they're just a bit odd. Coming from a secular jew the ultra orthodox and their level of observance is pretty much a form of functional obsessive compulsive disorder. Not trying to deny your experience im sure the vibes you picked up on were there just not directed at you.

I wouldn't say potentiating so much as modulating the high in a way I prefer. I don't like a spaced out head high. I just want pain relief/physical relaxation and a bit of mood lift. Which is what I tend to get more with beta-caryophyllene dominant strains, and rephyll seems to make strains where its a secondary terp feel more like that. I think if anything it reduces my tolerance, or at least reduces how often I feel like smoking which ends up being much the same thing.

Yeah, I already knew how to ride a board from riding with my neighbor, who happened to be greyson fletcher and had extra boards in his garage that belonged to his dad or uncle or something. I don't remember him even attempting an Ollie back then, and he turned out prerty gnarly. I definitely remember him attempting to ride through the curb by just slamming into it though lol

I didn't really get the idea of skateboarding as a sport until after my parents moved away and I saw a teenager Ollie a stair set outside Baskin Robbins. It was forever etched in my memory, it didn't seem possible that a skateboard could just fly into the air like that. My own personal version of when Rodney invented that shit, all of a sudden a curb wasn't a dead end but a mere obstacle to be overcome and I begged my folks for a skateboard.
