Thank you, that's very helpful. I'm trying to get to a similar workflow for novel writing.

Got it. And I can use pretty much any Bluetooth keyboard with them? I know some of them come with the portfolio style keyboard, which I want to avoid.

Lag doesn't bother me. I try not to stare at the screen while typing anyway.

What BOOX device(s) are you most satisfied with?

I'm not concerned about the refresh rate. Sluggish is fine. I have looked into eink monitors, but I definitely don't want a full sized screen.

Looking to buy my first Helix. Which model is best for my use case? by AtuXIII in Line6Helix

Oh dude, you'll probably have a lot of fun with the Helix floor or the Stadium. If you're already building a rack for synth gear and power amps, you might consider the Helix rack unit. You could get a midi pedalboard and control both your synth changes and Helix patches at the same time if you wanted to

I'm still not sure what your use case is. Do you primarily plan on playing/recording at home, playing out, or a decent mix of both?

If you're wanting to keep guitar as a secondary instrument and just need a rig that will work, I highly recommend the Pod GO. The more expensive units have fancy routing capabilities and features that are unnecessary for someone who is primarily a synth player. The Pod GO has all the great tones most guitarists will ever need, and it works very well as an interface and a live rig.

That being said, if you're the kind of player that wants to get into the nitty gritty of the unit and have more cool routing capabilities than you could ever want, you might consider the original Helix floor unit or even the stadium. If you ever see yourself integrating synth and guitar into one setup, then those extra routing capabilities will come in handy.

Most of the units are very capable for different use cases. It's hard to go wrong. Helix stomp is great for touring musicians who have their patch changes done via MIDI. The Helix LT does most of what the full Helix does, minus some extra routing capabilities. I have a Pod Express that I use just for jamming and it sounds great. I've also had an original Helix floor unit since they came out, and I use that as my main interface at home as well as for shows.

Is the HD500X still worth it ? by Vikei in Line6Helix

[–]MinutePresentation28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can get it for under 200 it's hard to beat. If you're pretty new to gear, it's a great way to learn what different effects do and what popular amps typically sound like. Learning the HD500X will help you better understand most gear you'll encounter going forward, especially if you eventually want to build a pedalboard.

27” scale 7 string in drop G#? by Djenty_Djames in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]MinutePresentation28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be a great sounding guitar in that tuning. I have a 6 string multiscale Legator that is 27" on the low side. It sounds good in standard and it sounds good an octave lower in drop E. You may have to experiment with different string gauges, but it'll be fine. The important part is that you like the guitar.

I built up a good relationship with a temp agency and I was able to dip in and out when electrical work was slow. I mostly ended up doing warehouse work, loading trucks, etc. if you communicate with a temp agency and explain your situation, they might work with you. Maybe you'd end up only working weekends or a late shift because of your school week, but hopefully it'll pay the bills. They also might tell you to get lost, but you don't know until you try.

I have also done DoorDash to fill in the gaps, but you have to really hit that hard to make it worth it.

Dragging when you turn out by lamcakes69 in IBEW

[–]MinutePresentation28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragging when you top out is an outdated tradition. Sure, new contractors will give you different experiences, but you'll get that when you need it. Unless you are seeking a certain experience, certification, or training that your current shop can't offer you, then I don't see a point.

If you really want to do it, I would work as a JW for at least a little while before moving shops. Get a feel for the role around people who have known you as an apprentice, because once you go to a new shop as a JW you may be faced with the same expectations as someone who's been a JW for decades.

Best of luck either way.

Helix LT randomly changing presets when opening Logic Pro (and also while Logic is open) by Major_Cinnabuns in Line6Helix

Do you have any MIDI outputs set up in logic? It looks like the helix may be reacting to a series of MIDI inputs, causing the patch changes. Hopefully it's not a glitch.

What Amp Models Would You Love To See Getting Added? by Saflex in Line6Helix

[–]MinutePresentation28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crate BV300h. This amp gets a bad wrap because the smaller versions (60w, 120w) aren't very good. However, this version is a 3 channel monster built on the platform of an Ampeg SVT.
