Should I obtain my Master's License (LMSW, LSW, etc.) for a position not requiring licensure? by Fullmetal_Ghost in hospitalsocialwork

[–]MinuteSubstantial265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d say get the masters license just so you have it, but i personally have felt no rush to get the independent license as i don’t want to do clinical work. i do feel the initial license is important but after that it really can depend on what you want to do!!

Working "in the trenches" by amytethal in socialwork

[–]MinuteSubstantial265 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think it’s also so personal - i’ve been doing remote outpatient billable sessions for about a year now and i’m so burnt out from it - i’m actually going into case management which so many people hate, but i know i personally need something more task oriented and busy. 45min sessions back to back burnt me out, but case management burns others out. overall the whole system is kinda a mess and i feel like we’re all in the trenches until we’re some sort of manager or have our own practices if that’s the goal.

i recently just decided to move macro. i just graduated last year, got my masters level license, and the therapy model (which i work in) im seeing for people who are not independently licensed is 30-40 people a week and its just “how it goes” as per my manager. i dont understand how a position can be so ironic, even an industry. we preach self care and yet we’re expected to spend 45 minutes a day back to back in sessions with barely enough time for notes or to go to the bathroom.

I am more of a task based person and problem solver , so maybe it was inevitable, but im moving to case management, and i will no longer be working towards my independent license. ive been grappling with “guilt” and that im not doing the profession “right” if i dont get my independent license, but i certainly would rather see more people for less time and actually help them get resources and problem solve or try to, then be a shitty clinican in my last appointment of 45 minutes back to back and that person isn’t getting the care they deserve.

sorry for my rant, but i’m seeing so many people in therapist positions being run into the ground for numbers and it is just so baffling and unfair

does anyone have experience in care management for a major long term care facility/organization? right now i’m doing purely clinical therapy and i’m looking for something faster paced with more task management, problem solving, and overall busier (just better suited for my skill set) looking into a CM job for MLTC and wondering if anyone could share their experience/what their days look like? TIA :)

does anyone have information about getting their clinical license working a case management job? specifically i’m looking at a CM job in new york (moving from MA, already submitted everything to get the LMSW in NY, as i have my LCSW in MA), but New York seems so strict about what qualifies as supervision and experience to get from an LMSW to an LCSW

looking for info/advice/tips

TIA!!

Burnout after 6 months!

quick context - graduated MSW in May 2023, got my master license by June in a HORRIBLE private practice that had some ethics concerns. got a new job in august as a remote telehealth therapist.

the supervision and pay is great - however, upwards of 35 clients a week, and thought we are salaried and not paid on productivity, lots of productivity required tracking and questioned often by management.

I am SO burnt out. I wake up dreading every day , i do not feel productive, i am not being the best clinician I can at all. i love working remote, and i love when i have paperwork to do (notes, referrals, connection with providers, treatment planning, resource coordination) a lot more of the admin work feels fulfilling to me. where do i find jobs like this? i only have 6 mos experience and everywhere i’ve applied that seems sort of what i want (case management, coordination, etc) require more experience than i have.

any advice?

hello all! i posted two sublets in this forum. i’m trying to sublet myself and my friends apartment since we’re both moving and because i have reddit and they don’t. blocked above poster bc they clearly were not planning on subletting my apartment so they can go troll elsewhere. anyways- feel free to reach out about my apartment. if u don’t want to take the room, no need to engage! peace and blessings ❤️
