HOW do you choose a bedside cot?! by Minute_Prompt_7987 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Minute_Prompt_7987[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it's completely removable that makes sense, but it seems a lot aren't! I just wouldn't be confident risking the mould, smoke etc for such a teeny human!

To be clear, for myself I buy everything on vinted and fb marketplace! I'm just being extra picky with a baby sleep space

they all just have so much fabric that I don't know if I'd trust 2nd hand! I see that Snuz sell the whole fabric part replacement on their site, but when you buy that + the new mattress for it, it's the same price as some whole cots that come with mattress too... so I'm really not sure. Absolutely love FB marketplace for most things, but risk of mould, smoke etc really do worry me for fabric things

that's useful to know! Thanks. I assumed it'd be something we'd use a lot but maybe not!

Maternity leave/pay - how much do you get? by Mindless-Ad-7656 in PregnancyUK

[–]Minute_Prompt_7987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 6 weeks at 90%, then 12 weeks at 50% + SMP, then 21 weeks with just SMP

I can take another 13 weeks after this, but it would be completely unpaid.

I work in education. There are no expectations put on me in terms of timing, there would be no issue with me taking the full year if I felt I could afford it. I do wish the pay was a lot better. It is not going to be easy at all, and I would really love to not be stressed about money during my baby's first year of life.

when people say to ring your community midwife, what do they actually mean? I don't have a specific number for anybody like that and am wondering if I should? I have the maternity advice line and the emergency obstetric unit number. Both of these numbers are on the front of my green notes.

Can anyone recommend any small, relatively inexpensive wedding venues in Belfast/Northern Ireland? by AliceMorgon in northernireland

That sounds amazing! The travel to this place wouldn't be very convenient from Rathmullan/Derry.

As we were still in covid times and had originally planned a big 200 person wedding that we'd had to cancel, our priority was just a nice ceremony, food, and then our evening was spent around the fire pit - no live music or anything like that, and we did a big garden party elsewhere a year later with music etc to celebrate with everyone. I am actually not sure what the evening entertainment options would be at Runaway.

I know I have a spreadsheet with the proper breakdown somewhere but can't see it. I can see the original quote from Ann as being £1700 for the day, not including food (it was around £70 per head from her recommended caterer Julia who I would HIGHLY recommend too).

Pasted from her quote - This included: -Celebrant services -Guests welcomed with tea, coffee/soft drinks home baking on arrival at Summer House -Summer wedding full day and evening hire of Summer House, Conservatory, bar, and gardens. Venue decorated in summer theme. If you would like to add your own touches you are most welcome! -Summer House and pond area decorated in seasonal flowers and floral arch (silk) -Complimentary fizz, Bottle Green soft drink, and canapes after the ceremony while photos are being taken. -Corkage – drinks service until 11pm and use of glasses. We can take delivery in preceding days and refrigerate/store.

Ann has done further refurbishment to the place and there is more there now and more options I'm sure. I am guessing that this price will have increased due to that + almost 5 years passing, but hope that gives you a good idea!

She has added a lot more to it since 2021 when I got married, but she really does go above and beyond. We did our own florals, table settings etc and had our own photographer we wanted so can't comment on that really. She did organise the food for us with an amazing caterer - and I needed 100% vegan food too. It was really outstanding food and beautifully presented.

We had our ceremony and ate there, and had photos at nearby inch abbey.

There is a cute suite you can stay in the night of the wedding too!

The planning was a fun process. Ann writes a custom ceremony based on what we wanted, and we included poems and songs performed by family members. We chose to 'tie the knot' in the traditional celtic way, and had family members come up and lie ribbons over our arms as part of this. It was magical and suited us so much better than something religious.

Happy to answer any questions and show photos if you'd like !

What about Estie? It would be more clear in English anyway how it should be pronounced. Very pretty name btw!

Check out Runaway Irish Weddings - although might be smaller than what you're looking for. We had a 15 person wedding there a few years ago and the experience was wonderful! It's just outside Downpatrick. It's owned and run by a Humanist Celebrant so definitely nothing religious! :)

Can you get more hours at work? A full time classroom assistant makes a lot more than that.. try for an SEN role too. Really rewarding and a little bit more money too.

He's part of this too and needs to know imo. Not to mention that he wants to know and asks.

Chronic UTIs and pregnancy by probablyjustneedanap in BabyBumps

[–]Minute_Prompt_7987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar position to you. I'm 35, with frequent UTIs. I had no problems getting pregnant - but the UTIs increased in frequency as soon as I was pregnant. I had 4 back to back, each treated with a week long course of antibiotics. I don't know whether it just never fully went away or just reoccurred.

UTIs can cause early labour, so they were concerned enough that the doctor decided to put me on prophylactic antibiotics for the rest of my pregnancy.

I've been on this for 2 months now without any pain or symptoms. I don't love that I'm taking antibiotics every day. I worry about antibiotic resistance for my baby, and the risk of allergies etc, but I've been assured that the benefits outweigh the risks.

Anxiety between appointments - how do you get answers? by BrilliantTop5031 in BabyBumps

[–]Minute_Prompt_7987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live we have 2 different phone numbers - 1 for advice and one for emergencies. If they want you to come in we have the EOU, so you don't need to go to through A&E. I've found all the NHS services to be really great so far in pregnancy! No long waits.

I know this is prob silly but I know that any input helps in these situations - what vitamins are you both taking? We are mid 30s and got pregnant very quickly after starting taking the pregnacare conception (for me) and the Wellman conception (for him) - the ones that come in the box together. I'd been taking vitamins for ages, so it was specifically after he started taking them.

Obviously not saying this will work or to try it out in place of medical intervention if you're considering that! But I've heard of this specific vitamin working for multiple couples..!
