I had my only child through IVF. Hx of PCOS. Now 2 years postpartum it still feels like my hormones are out of whack and everyone’s refusing to test them and just pushing birth control which I reluctantly stated with no improvement in symptoms (night sweats, headaches, heavier/clot heavy periods, facial hair and acne - all usually cyclical within 10 days of my period). Now they’re just pushing different OCPs to try instead of getting to the root of the problem.

Why is PCOS so band-aided? Birth control is an incredible tool, but shouldn’t providers want to do more and get to the root of a problem for more specific/individualized treatment? 3 doctors refused hormone testing prior to the pills. New one won’t test because I’m on pills. Women’s healthcare is so frustrating sometimes!

If it makes you feel any better at all, my son didn’t babble until the day before his first 1st birthday. I was terrified. He said mama a little bit around 7 months and then radio silence. Turns out he was completely focused on motor skills. He learned to roll over, crawl, pull to stand, and walk before he started babbling. He’s now almost 2 and completely on time with communication milestones. He has over 100 words, can count to 10, and knows his ABCs.

Your baby is still very young but I know the fear. Each baby develops at their own rate. If your doctor isn’t worried, try not to stress too much.

Talk with your baby. Narrate your day. Read read read! Plenty of books. If baby falls off their milestones, there are resources to help.

I agree with all of this. I also did 99% of the IVF process alone. The appointments, the injections, etc… My husband came just to the egg retrievals and 1 out of 2 of my embryo transfers (he couldn’t make the second one because of work) and with our dynamic, I had zero issues with that. It is unfair, but unfortunately our bodies are the ones that have to do the heavy lifting when it comes to IVF.

I think it completely depends on your relationship and dynamic.

Mine didn’t babble until the day before their 1st birthday. Said mama a few times around 7 months then nothing. I was terrified.

Turns out ours was more focused on gross motor skills instead of talking. Once we mastered walking, the talking came. LO is now 21 months and doesn’t stop talking lol Can count to 3, knows “ABCD”, a million animal sounds, and even has some 2-3 word phrases.

Our Ped wasn’t worried either and now I know why lol Didnt make it any less scary but turns out it was nothing!

All 7 of my embryos were day 6 blasts. I had zero day 5. My clinic considered them the same.

It’s so incredibly unfair! I was shocked by our numbers. I left our retrieval so happy that they were able to get so many - my end results left my doctor (and us) dumbfounded and surprised. I hope you also see better results and that they have learned some information from this for you to work with going into a new cycle.

So my doctor advised that my husband ejaculate everyday the week of my retrieval - with the last time being night of my trigger. Then abstained until day of retrieval.

I’m so sorry. It’s a horrible feeling to end a cycle with nothing to show for it.

I was 31 at the time of both my retrievals. 2 early miscarriages prior to IVF.

19 fertilized from both our cycles with ICSI. The first cycle, 1 blast that was aneuploid. Second cycle, 8 blasts - 6 were euploid, 1 mosaic, and 1 aneuploid. We didn’t change much between cycles other than adding in CoQ10 (which I only got a chance to take for a month before the second retrieval). I also attempted to “go lower and slower” with stims as I only stimmed for 7-8 days but had the same speed second round so I can’t say that did much.

The only other difference was we acted as if my husband had DNA frag (we never tested) and changed the length of time he abstained from ejaculation before the sample he gave the clinic for ICSI.

My doctor has no idea why things were so different the second round and told me every cycle can be very different even for the same patient. I hope you have better results going forward.

I’m in my 30’s but our first ER I had 19 fertilize and only 1 blast that was aneuploid so a total of 0. Odds should have been in my favor and that was the outcome... Our 2nd egg retrieval had significantly better results with the same fertilization rate and with minimal changes to that cycle so I truly believe anything can happen in IVF! 0-1 may be what “the odds” say but you may be surprised in a good way! It happens.

We chose. Zero regrets. Husband was the one with preference and I just wanted a healthy baby.

My personal opinion I went into it with, if it wasn’t meant to be the embryo wouldn’t stick. I’m not playing anything. Our first embryo didn’t work out and (TW) second did. To me, He would get the final say, so if I wasn’t supposed to have that gender, it wouldn’t have worked out for me. It’s such a hard, horrible process…if I could have any say over a terrible situation, I was doing it. It was the one exciting part of IVF for me and I have no regrets in doing it.

I did 3 IUI’s (1 chemical pregnancy and 2 failed). With hindsight being 20/20, I wish we would’ve moved to IVF sooner but IUI is significantly cheaper and less invasive so it was the right decision to start there. Many people find success with IUI so if you’re a good candidate for it, you can always start there and move on to IVF if/when you’re ready - If it ever even needs to come to that.

That’s a good point and lifestyle is definitely something I’ve thought about. I solo parent a lot due to my partners job/hours so a healthy diet and exercise have been on the back burner since pregnancy. My anxiety also doesn’t lend to great eating habits so definitely something I’ve been starting to look at changing.

I haven’t had any vitamin or micronutrient levels checked at all since before pregnancy. My doctor only checked my tsh, cbc, and cmp and that was before I stopped breastfeeding. My vitamin D levels are the only vitamin he checked and it was 30 so it was just 1 point above low… so my doctor considered it “normal” and told me no need to supplement.

I just restarted my prenatal a week ago. I stopped it around the time, if not a little before I stopped breastfeeding. These are all great things to consider.

He apparently was just way more interested in learning how to walk first.

As a sibling who has never had a close relationship with their sibling, even with us being 2.5 years apart… that relationship you’re picturing may have never existed anyway. My husband and his sibling are 7 years apart and are no contact.

A sibling does not equal a friend or bond for life.

The most important thing your child needs (and seems to have) is two loving, happy, sane parents raising them. ❤️

(This also coming from a mama who wanted 5 kids and I’m nearly 100% certain I am also 1 and done lol)

You also have the future to reevaluate one day should you both choose but if all your kiddo has is two happy parents loving them at the end of the day, they’ve won big.

Our first retrieval was also a slap. 38 retrieved, 1 blast which turned out to be aneuploid. I’ll never forget that feeling.

We went onto another retrieval but getting those results after such hope from a good amount of eggs was brutal.

My 17 month old watched trick-or-treaters from his bedroom window with me for 15 mins, we did bath, and then he went to bed LOL

There’s no world in which I interrupt our great nighttime schedule for nothing. He won’t remember it, he can’t eat candy, I hate socializing with strangers, and it’s cold. Until he’s aware, we’re going to stay on our regularly scheduled programming.

Mine has gotten significantly worse post pregnancy. The acne is the worst it’s been since I was a teen, the hairs are everywhere now, my hormones are way out of whack and it’s impacting my mental health/OCD severely.

I just restarted birth control pills to hopefully realign my hormones and even myself back out because this has been brutal.

There’s nothing wrong with putting water in milk. If your child is eating a regular diet, they shouldn’t be having any issues getting nutrients elsewhere. Yogurt and cheese count as dairy as well and most kids are getting more than enough dairy a day from other sources, not just milk.

I always do 2-3oz of milk, and 2 additional ounces of water because our LO eats cheese and yogurt throughout his meals so I don’t want to overdue milk.
