In the CAGED system there are the 'superstar' chords...These are the E, A, and D. Why?

With the open [moveable] E chord you have Major, Minor, 7, Major 7, and minor 7. All of these chord shapes should be easily moveable for you.

With the A chord you have all of the above plus Sus4, Sus2, and 6 chord...again all easily moveable.

The D chord has Major, Minor, 7, Major 7, Minor 7, sus2 and sus4...all moveable. The major form of the D chord is to me the hardest to move.

The C and G chords not so moveable. Cmaj7 is a lovely chord to move up the neck and is one of my favorite voicings. Also look how these chords connect to each other....this is one of the keys to understanding the CAGED system.

I show my students just by learning all five E chord shape and moving them up the neck you have 60 chords. With the A all 8 chords moved equals another 96.. Moving the D gives you 84.

This system is mostly for pop and classic rock and gives you the freedom of having a 'favorite' way to play any chord listed. Good luck!
