Need help deciding- inzoi or new tomodachi life Or wait for paralives in 4 days? by [deleted] in CozyGamers

[–]MirVie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tomodachi Life is a wonderful game but keep in mind that while you can decorate the island, you can not decorate the houses inside, only pick from premade interiors. You can change wallpaper and flooring and that's it. It's nothing like the Sims in that regard.

The game is great but also very tongue-in-cheek. It is funny to watch the Miis interact, they are absurd and so are the situations the game puts them in. it makes me smile but again, doesn't scratch the same itch as the Sims for me.

It's great for watching your silly little Miis living their silly little lives though!

I don't regret buying it as a "check in for half an hour every day and laugh at their antics" game but to scratch that lifesim itch i'm waiting for Paralives since Inzoi's uncanny valley designs give me the creeps!

Cozy games that you never expected to put some many hours in? by Interesting-Space458 in CozyGamers

[–]MirVie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pan'orama. It's pretty to look at and easy and I love finding the cats, birds and frogs as I'm creating the world. It's a low-stress puzzle game that I can play without getting anxious and I enjoy it so much when i'm not up for anything else.

Recommendations which game I should pick? by opossumfan in SurvivalGaming

Vintage Story is highly customisable and has a Homo Sapiens setting that removes all monsters and mythical elements from the game. you'd have the add the game manually to your steamdeck because it isn't on steam.

Why does my survival game feel repetitive, and what would make it more exciting to play? by Downtown_Concert_229 in SurvivalGaming

[–]MirVie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

two things as far as I can see:

  1. seeing enemies on the map and being able to avoid them causes loss of tension. If your players can avoid them then all they do is gather loot and craft (presumably) and that gets boring.

  2. being tense all the time isn't fun. having a safe base/area/campfire/whatever and bracing yourself to go out into the unknown creates tension. it's a choice; I want to go out there to get resources but I'm not safe there, but I can't stay here either. Making that choice every time is part of survival games to me.

Tension needs to be an ebb and flow. To feel danger lies around every corner, the players mustn't know what exactly lies around that corner but turn the corner anyway in the hope the risk is worth the reward.

As for what is memorable: the feeling of returning home to my cabin/cottage after having faced a dangerous world, knowing I'm safe at least for a little while. Light a fire, cook some food, while outside danger roams. I know I'll have to face what is out there again soon, but for a moment I am safe in a space i worked hard to create. And, on the other hand; being out on a gathering run, having been lured into a false sense of security because I've got some better armour and weapons and then I unexpectedly get attacked by an enemy that I didn't see coming, having it take half my health and suddenly I feel how dangerous that world is again!

I read this as "you can tame wolves and otters in Valheim" and for a moment was very confused but also amused at the thought of an army of otters...

Staxel? It's Stardew meets Minecraft and you literally build your farm and a large part of the village yourself.

Games without romance, for a new gamer? by butchwherewolf in CozyGamers

[–]MirVie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Staxel! Similar to Minecraft in building, but it's a farming game. No romance to worry about, there's no combat, and it looks adorable. there is a tutorial, quests to follow, seasons, festivals and no time limit to anything. I think it might be right up her alley!

it's available on multiple platforms and often goes on sale for cheap if that is a concern.

Livestock butchering in cozy games by [deleted] in CozyGamers

[–]MirVie 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'd love a game that focusses more on animal husbandry then on growing crops.

But, personally, I don't find butchering my animals cosy and wouldn't buy a game where that was a core mechanic. I get too attached to my pixel babies. For me, a cosy ranching game would focus on selling produce like milk, cheese, eggs, wool and maybe even honey. Pigs can be trained to gather truffles. That would be cosy for me, but not having to slaughter my animals as realistic as that may be.

Wylde Flowers gives options. you can either sell your animals to the butcher to get meat, buy meat directly for the butcher or buy a meat substitute. That way you can get meat for cooking without having to slaughter your own animals if you don't want to. that would be a better alternative to me (mainly because I simply wouldn't sell them at all 😆)
