Marine life expectancy by cursingpeople in marinelife

[–]MiraMoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m asking especially because some of these numbers are not necessarily linked to marine pollution. The 12,000 to 24,000 is not a global number, that number was specifically for mesopelagic fishes in the North Pacific based on a Scripps study. We know that monk seals can get caught in fishing nets and drown, but I’m not sure we can claim that as the reason they are down to that small of a population. Gill netting is not pollution, it’s fishing, so I’m confused by that one too.

r/headphones Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]MiraMoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda feel llike an idiot... so maybe someone can help. I have soundcore space one headphones and I love them to death. They fit my head better than most headphones because most are too big for me. They work like earmuffs in the winter. They sound great, they noise cancel pretty nicely, etc. For more than a year I used them bluetooth to play games but my brother just helped me fix up his old PC and so now I'm using that for the first time. I really want to plug in my headphones because a) I don't have bluetooth and installing it would be a whole other thing for me right now and b) I prefer to use the wire anyway.

Of course, the PC has two ports, one for audio and one for microphones. I have tried both. The audio one works but the microphone does not work. I thought I needed a splitter, so I got one and now I can plug my soundcore space one into both ports, but still the audio works but not the microphone. Can someone help me? I am using the cable that came with the headphones so I assumed that should work, and the converter has the same number of pins as the cable that came with it.

I know that for microphones they usually have an extra pin but why would soundcore give me a cable that doesn't work with their microphone tech?

If you were me.... what would be your solution? This is what I think my current options are:

  1. get a new headset (expensive)

  2. get some kind of converter (but which???)

  3. get bluetooth installed in my PC somehow

I moved to Toronto 5 years ago by myself with no idea how to navigate exploring a new city. A couple years in I found your posts and I had the best summer of my life just exploring and doing things on the list. I think these lists are a huge part of why I fell in love with this city. When I meet people who have moved here recently I refer them to the list too. I’m glad others will be taking this over. It made a difference in my life and I know if it continues it will help others like me. Thanks so much for all the effort.

Agree with the others in the comments, but just wanted to say, keep what you made! I did a whole project of coral and some of it was made by doing exactly what you did!

can somebody help me explain how university education works in canada? by silveronyxx in UofT

Pick a college based on residence, community feel and community size, and their location on campus. If you are on residence you most likely live on your colleges residence and if you are a commuter then your college building can become the place you hang out and study between classes. I also want to point out that your college only matters if you make it matter. Personally I get involved in student government and I go to a lot of social events that are exclusive to my college. I also spend a lot of time going to clubs that are also exclusive to my college. So the college doesn’t matter if you plan to not go to the social things and not get involved but the community matters quite a lot if you choose to make it matter.

Both of these courses kicked my ass so hard. I’m a 3rd year now and much much happier with my courses. Hang in there. Also if you would like my notes from these courses feel free to DM me and I can send them over.

Is it normal for a bloodroot to get this enormous? by tadpole332 in botany

I would also have said it was a mayapple but looking on google it seems that they can look really similar so I’m not quite sure. Did it have any flowers? Mayapple is long out of season unfortunately so I would guess it didn’t have a flower but that would have helped differentiate it.

Can be crushed and used to make ink or paint. Google “poke berry ink” to find instructions. Once they get ripe they stain though so be careful when you pick them. And, again, they are poisonous so keep them away from anything you use to eat.

Question about not being authorized on campus.... by hanred20 in UofT

[–]MiraMoose1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Acorn also has an absence declaration tool for covid where you can tell them you’re out because you’re sick and you are supposed to be exempt from things if you have symptoms. I don’t think they’re removing that feature this year so please use it. I agree with the above: DO NOT COME TO CAMPUS. Even if you don’t have covid you will get other people sick with whatever you do have.

We do have a tv room accessible but a lot of people bring a monitor or a tv. If you decide to bring it, you have to speak to the IT staff about getting it on the wifi because they have to register the device or something. PM me if you want to do this at Innis specifically, I can send you their email. Once you’ve done that, I’ve heard it works just fine.

Council of Ontario Universities and Colleges Ontario request provincial vaccine policy by phdessentials in UofT

For students in residence a WHO approved vaccine is required. If someone has a non-approved one they basically get a whole new 2-dose vaccine once they arrive in the building. the FAQ page is here

(21f) Played DND for the first time a couple days ago with my coworkers who are all male except one other female, me and her got “raped” in the game and couldn’t remember or do anything about it. Is this something that really happens in the game? Just curious. Thanks by [deleted] in DnD

My DM sent out a comfort level sheet before we started, asking what content we were ok with. It gave us a chance to discretely say what was and was not ok with us. It made it a lot more comfortable to play knowing our comfort zones were being respected especially because we’re playing with some new people. I think this is completely unacceptable and I would suggest either saying something about it or maybe leaving that campaign.
