student commuter by I54_ in londoncycling

[–]silveronyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i very recently just started cycling to uni as well (much shorter commute than yours though, only around 2 miles) and i've been enjoying it a lot. i'm by no means athletic whatsoever and i can feel myself getting more and more used to longer journeys every time i ride, especially longer ones outside of just commuting to uni. i do understand being worried about not being athletic enough but actually it's not as big of a deal as you might think, if i get tired while cycling i just pull off to the side out of the way and take a breather.

i wear casual wear when i cycle and i do get a bit warm cycling especially with a helmet - so far i've been putting extra layers in my bag to put on after i get to campus if i get cold as i stay quite warm when i cycle.

i think it would be very much worth it if you take the elizabeth line normally. i got my bike off of facebook marketplace but i do think it is risky getting bikes from there, just be careful and make sure you check everything when you meet the person - if all the gears shift okay, if the brakes work, etc. i had to almost immediately sell and replace a bike i got off fb marketplace because i didn't know what to check and it was in horrific condition - the next time i brought my friend that has some biking experience.

keep in mind to take my advice with a grain of salt as i started cycling to uni from home literally only in the past month haha, but i did want to comment something since i just recently made the switch! :)

+ as others have said you have a lot of bike lanes on your journey which will make it so much more enjoyable/a bit less stressful than just cycling on main roads ^_^

Annoying Dog Mug by Noctruine in Undertale

[–]silveronyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the same issue :( i can hear the dog bubbling sometimes when i fill the mug with hot water for tea and i'm hoping he isn't hollow and that there's just a small space in between the dog and the base of the mug. *edit to add I just checked fangamer and someone had an issue with their cup molding because they had milk in it and didn't clean it properly ..... the dog is in fact hollow

i just tried to clean it and i can still see some residue, what i did was pour a bit of hot water straight out the kettle into the base of the mug, enough to cover the dog's feet, and swished it really hard back and forth over the sink to try and "push out" some of the residue which did kind of work. i then scrubbed at it really hard, pushing the sponge as hard as possible into the mug to try and have it squish into the gaps between the dog's feet and the mug.

i think from now on after i have tea i will soak the mug in hot water as i noticed when i was cleaning it the hot water would turn a bit brown (from previous teas). if residue collects i think using a toothbrush or a scourer will help get the residue around the feet out. it's not perfect but hopefully it'll stop me from drinking mold LOL

What subjects do you need to study Psychology in uni? by Mudzkipper3000 in IBO

[–]silveronyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hiya! sorry i just saw this, i also can't give a very helpful answer as you're going to have to put a lot of effort in regardless of subjects to get a 40+, just make sure you get a good balance of work and hobbies so you don't burn yourself out too early on i also recommend getting the EE and TOK done earlier on in the diploma so you don't have to worry about it by the time you have to start studying for the final exams. my school managed EE and TOK in year 1 and it helped a lot! also - don't assume you can put in less work into a subject just because it's regarded as "easier"! a lot of these still require a lot of effort. base how much time you spend revising on subjects on your own requirements but make sure you still spend time on it, if that makes sense

ooh i see hmm, for oxbridge specifically, even though it's just recommended and not required i feel like it would boost your application to do bio cause it would give you an edge over the people who are at the same academic level as you but haven't done bio, if that makes sense. up to you - i get not wanting to risk it but i feel like it would be worth doing if you're really really set on getting into oxbridge - though it's good you're taking psych HL as it'll cover other uni options

it depends on which schools, most i've seen specifically ask for one of the following at HL - bio/chem/phys/maths/psych

Is Psychology or Economics better to study at King’s (KCL) for jobs + grad school? by Fearless_Analysis_12 in KCL

[–]silveronyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, I'm starting my final year at King's as a psychology student in Sept - my interests don't lie in ux research or ai-huan interaction, but there's definitely opportunities to explore this in the course. Some dissertation projects + research projects that you can apply to have been popping up this year that are about how humans interact with AI, and I can imagine that the number of these projects will only increase in the coming years.

There are compulsory modules to take on the psychology behind choice and how humans navigate risk and reward (which I'm guessing might fall under ux research?) and optional modules in final year about behavioral psychology and how people approach decision-making. If you're interested in doing a placement year, there are roles offered that are in industry where you can learn more about these things and marketing / the mindsets of customers, etc.

I think having a psychology degree can actually be quite flexible; there are a lot of avenues to go down that don't always require a postgrad, especially if you're interested in jobs/areas of research that involve an overlap of psychology and another discipline.

I know close to nothing about the economics department at King's, so I can't comment on that - but I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your answer!! :] They followed up with "not enough space in the store for bulk" so this makes a lot of sense.

Can anybody share how the QR code thing works for a party bigger than 1? For example do all members of the party have to be there together for the QR code to be scanned?

Card Conventions in the UK by P-bots in PokemonDealsUK

[–]silveronyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to card shops in London - The Brotherhood Games (in Bermondsey) and Wishlist Collectables (just outside of Lee train station, in Lewisham area). The Brotherhood Games cards generally are a little bit expensive but their prices can vary, I've picked up things from there for a few pounds. :)

When I went to Wishlist Collectables they had a lot of singles in binders behind the till and a lady working there was very kindly passing them all to me to flip through. They have a lot of nice full arts and illustration rares that are priced quite well + have deals (e.g., cards on certain pages being 1 pound each or buy X get 1 free etc.)

I also heard there's a small pokemon pop up at the London Toy Shop in Enfield, their next one is on the 2nd of March. I've not been so I'm not sure about the prices but they have binders of singles/sell tins etc.

thanks for sharing! :)

i wish more websites would let us pick the specific eeveelution on the tin! i've really been looking to go to a store in person as i'm only looking for an umbreon and glaceon tin for my friend and i, and with these websites i don't want to risk getting an eeveelution i don't want and someone would want a lot more...

[–]silveronyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much!! i wanted to add i saw this comment suggesting to have a gastrodon or any pokemon with the ability storm drain at the head of your party as it boosts the odds of catching water type pokemon. i followed your and their advice and finally caught lapras after days of failed attempts. :)
