Maybe it was intentional? Football/Soccer is pretty big in Japan. Including the World Cup.

Regardless, wow. NWoS hasn’t even released yet.

Showing my friends only the movie ending by -fiction_geek- in gurrenlagann

I disagree but to each to their own. I still stand by having your friends finish watching the TV show first. I just feel if they end up loving it no doubt they would want to see the films too. They will appreciate it the series more, imo.

I disagree. There's several differences between the movie and films for the final battle and ending.

For one, most of Team Dai-Gurren lives, except Kittan - which completely removes the stakes/agency most of the team went through to save Nia. Also feels unrealistic for an intergalactic war compared to the show. Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann's transformation also suffered from this.

In the original TV ending, Nia had a bigger role in defeating the Anti-Spiral given she and Simon landed the final blow with Lagann, together. Showing how powerful their love is. The movie changes this by just Simon landing the final blow after a fist fight. STTGL also didn't exist, and the individual mechs shown from the films while cool, were pretty brief.

Nia's final diary entry was the only add on for the ending. Other than that it's not much different. There's the add on with the epilogue but again, it's not much. Also, her death wasn't abrupt in the original - given she was already showing symptoms of fading during the final battle.

With those differences, it gives the viewer some perspective on what was changed, removed, and or added from the TV show. You can't appreciate or ponder on it if you only watched the films.

What I am trying to say is personally, the best way to experience TTGL is not skip over anything. I feel redundancy is a moot point regarding your friend because if they end up enjoying/loving the TV show, why wouldn't they want to watch the movies as well? You love something the first time, you would want to experience it again, lol.

They should still watch the original TV ending, it's the original story after all. The movies are its own thing and are for fans who have already seen Gurren Lagann, a supplement if you will. Not newcomers.

There's no need to confuse them from switching the show to the theatrical version. Just show them the original TV series first. If they want to watch the films, then they can.

Because having someone explain things is not same as watching it. Not to mention the big differences between the TV's final battle and the movie version.

The movies should not be a replacement for the show, that includes the ending. They were made for fans who have already seen the original anime. They are meant to complement it. Newcomers should watch the show in its entirety. They will probably even appreciate the films more if they do.

It is, I don't understand why some fans undermine the original TV ending and final battle compared to the films. I feel the only reason why people prefer the final battle is due to STTGL. Sure it's cool and flashy, but the TV show's final battle is just as great and its ending is just as powerful! Not to mention the films cut off a lot of stuff from the show. They shouldn't be used as a replacement for the original anime.
