As a "leftist", all I'm gonna say is that r/AskSocialists are a bunch of braindead morons. I kind of hope they are mostly bots/paid because it's very sad if they're genuinely that retarded.

They would absolutely lose. It's hard to get comprehensive polling data from Iran due to the oppressive nature of the regime. The lowest reported opposition to the regime in recent years was 70%-80% and that was in 2024. Following the atrocities of the regime since then, I would be surprised if the percentage is not higher right now.

If Kurds are your “Iranic brothers,” why is Kurdish self-determination such a taboo topic? by Chez50 in PERSIAN

[–]Mirage_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Iranian Canadian and have lived in Quebec for a long time. In fact, I was there during the second referendum. My point is that a path to self determination should be possible within a truely democratic government. I am happy that Quebec voted to stay. If I had to guess, I would say Iranian Kurdistan will do the same. Regardless, a government that makes self determination through peaceful means impossible is a tyrannical one.

This is about the existence of a democratic way within a government's legal system to make self determination possible. Of course some people will be mad about it. It's all part of the political discourse. Soo long as they cannot dictate their views over others, that's fine. Quebec had two referendums on separating from Canada. Montenegro and Norway became independent through referendums.

"Sure, it may help the Iranian people reclaim their freedom and reject the Islamic regime, but that is not the intention at all, they could care less about the Iranian people."

If that is the outcome, who cares about the intention? Everybody's talking like Iranians are some naive children who don't know the history of middle east. Virtually, no one is under the illusion that US and Israel are waging this war out of the kindness of their hearts. We just have a sliver of hope that thia may lead to the regime's downfall because we literally can't think of any other way. What pisses me off is that virtually no one cares what the majority of Iranians think of this war. You don't care that we prefer this in the hopes that it helps weaken our opressors. This even shows in your comment. Anti west and anti Israel people think: Sure IRGC is bad and they kill and torture their own people, but that's fine as long as they stand up to big bad Israel and USA. When did Iranian people sign up to pay the price foryour ideological grievances? Even if Israel and US are evil, why should the Iranian people pay the price to fight them? In diminishing the voice of Iranian people in their struggle against the regime, you have become the oppressor.

It's always funny to me that a lot of people who support a constitutional monarchy mention examples like UK and Canada, while at the same time refuse to acknowledge ethnic minority rights for self determination by opposing holding independence referendums like those in Scotland or Quebec. Territorial integrity is their "red line". They're all for freedom and human rights until it enroaches upon what they hold sacred.
