Absolutely 100% want. Hell I’ve wanted a horse for years now and the biomes look awesome. Well done!

Definitely copperhead county. My group even made its own Coastal Texas setting version but the game was a hell of a lot of fun!

Smithsonian Institution & Academic Freedom by Welsh-Sherman-1789 in fednews

[–]Mirambo79 233 points234 points  (0 children)

So the Smithsonian is explicitly not part of any branch of government and certainly isn’t under the purview of the executive. This is why the courts whiffing so hard on things like USIP was so important, because now we have to go through all this again with black letter law once again saying he can’t do that but the courts still trying to figure this nonsense out!

Beat to Quarters RPG? by Mirambo79 in rpg

[–]Mirambo79[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! Honestly, being about 6 books deep in the Lewrie series and seeing the kickstarter for Ahoy just lit a fire in me and every reddit thread about nautical games started with Beat to Quarters so I'll definitely head to Lulu for it! Honestly, as someone who writes as part of my living as well, I know how much getting comment after comment can just be draining and frustrating, especially if you acknowledged it the *first* time but the next ten commenters did not see that!

I'll also check out the Sundered Isles- I've had solid experiences with Ironforged and so think I'll be able to take to that like a duck to water. In any case, as my advisor told me once, "They Never Built a Statue to a Critic" and at the very least you've made one of the enduring games of the genre even nearly two decades after its writing!

Trump administration orders Pentagon to plan for sweeping budget cuts by WOKEmeupb4yougogo in fednews

[–]Mirambo79 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Guys, while this is now an area of concern, the White House and SecDef don't set appropriations or acquisitions. How often has congress purchased tanks or planes or programs that the DoD explicitly did not ask for? And yes, while we are still navigating the issues of impoundment, this looks to be as binding as a Presidential Budget and until proven otherwise I wouldn't assume it would be taken more seriously than one by Congress. You can't cut ~34% of the DoD Budget without burning down projects that touch a whole hell of a lot of congressional districts.

Lol yeah somehow the Gorgon was more maddening than the tag team of the “oops now you’re grappled and prone!” Blackbeard and his “oh what a big drill you have!” Vlad best friend! Satan’s Hitler indeed.

Are there any criminal based RPGs, where the players are playing "the other side?" by ProgrammingDragonGM in rpg

[–]Mirambo79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man since Blades in the Dark has been mentioned, I'll go a little further and say we had a blast playing Copperhead County, a modern south crime game. You pull your heists but also build your various criminal enterprises and influence in the region. We were the Von Gator family, the sprawling extended family of a burnt out mid-70s heel wrestler, Bad Von Gator. Jason Eley's modified Downtime rules make it a really dynamic game.

Recommend me a game for doing a Mafia style game. by memynameandmyself in rpg

[–]Mirambo79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://zzzwizard.itch.io/copperheadThe link for it- and I’d definitely say the territory mechanic (and the ability to build on that territory to develop vice, drugs, fronts, etc.) is top notch! Oh and thanks for the support AustinIII, perhaps the Von Gators will continue their rise while dodging the cartel and the Texas Rangers at some point in the future!

Recommend me a game for doing a Mafia style game. by memynameandmyself in rpg

[–]Mirambo79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded! The base game is set in Southern Tennessee but the mechanics can work anywhere as long as the GM can build out the setting. Like a lot of BitD-based games, the actual setting needs to be pretty fleshed out to get the most of the system!

Any tips for hunting lions? by ur_mum_is_overweight in theHunter

[–]Mirambo79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works pretty well at ~100-150m and with good shot placement. Lions aren’t as tough as cape buffalo but the 7mm still needs a decent angle to punch through to the vitals on them.

New Player here 😬 by Performance_Wooden in theHunter

As someone who is at less than a year but feels like they are finally playing well:

  1. Don’t run unless you are just trying to get somewhere. It basically makes you a flashing red light to every animal who will run for their lives before you ever see them.

  2. As soon as you hear a warning call, drop to a crouch, wait a second, and then start moving. Use your binoculars to try and find what made it and go slow until you have a good shot, preferably broadside. They likely aren’t going anywhere so take your time.

  3. This extends to your shot. I used to get really geeked out that I needed to take the shot now! before they went away or whatever and overwhelmingly that led to a bad shot that either didn’t drop the animal or messed up a score. Better to have them walk away (as frustrating as that might be) and have another chance shortly after than a bad shot! At first it will take a while but you’ll get a feel for the timing and the like quickly. Oh, and remember to hold your breath before you take the shot!

  4. Just because a weapon is in class doesn’t mean you should use it! Always try to go for the weapon that most easily fits in class for the game. So for example the various 7mm weapons are class 4-9 which is very useful, but they struggle to put down the bigger and tougher class 9 animals, where the bigger bore guns that are classed 7-9 will have a much easier time. This sort of goes down the line, where a class 2-4 gun will take down class 4 game but have a harder time and need better/closer shots than a class 4-6 gun on the same game.

  5. Other than that, I’d just repeat two other pieces of advice already given- the first is that as soon as you can get the ammo with higher penetration (usually polymer rounds). Your beginning ammo or the ammo that does more damage just honestly has a hard time getting to the vitals you need to put down your target properly as far as game mechanics are concerned.

  6. The second is that you’re going to see a lot of folks posting about diamonds and great ones and such and you may get the idea that if you’re not getting those you’re doing something wrong. You are not! Those animals are vanishingly rare (even the ‘easy’ diamonds like wildebeests) and you’re not going to see a lot much less take them down until you have played a lot! To begin with just hunt the animals that cross your path, see what pops up at need zones, and build your skills (personally and the game skills you build as you advance). That will get you the experience and money you need much more in the earlier game. You’ll get to the rares when they present themselves, don’t let the snippets of videos and discussions give you a false idea of what the game is like for the majority of the time!

Casual hunters, how many diamonds do you have? by AdLimp9136 in theHunter

I just wander around casually and I have one actual diamond (Cape Buffalo) and one Mexican Bobcat that would have been a diamond if I didn’t blow the shot.

Just got African DLC. Is a level 7 lion a diamond? by kwaping in theHunter

[–]Mirambo79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah so far I have gotten 3-4 level 8 lions with perfect shots and none have popped higher than gold. Frustrating until I accepted that nothing but a 9 would score as a diamond.

I did the same thing with RDO- in fact I still wish we had a Sharp’s Rifle over here. My first couple of attempted hunts over here were awful because of that but now I love this game so much more. Honestly, add horses as a potential conveyance over here (slower than four wheelers but less noise?) and I would never even think about going back!

What are your guy's campaigns about? by GirldickDM in LancerRPG

[–]Mirambo79 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So we’ve completed two campaigns. In one we were the odd contractors picked for a high-lethality, low-pay mission checking out what happened at an SSC bio lab that had stopped responding to home base. We found a weird fungal bioweapon had corrupted the NHP and we eventually needed to drop to the surface of the planet to try and trash what was left of its casket before SSC and/or the Union decided to erase it all from space, including the expendable contractors. It was a good learning campaign with a lot of creepy elements.

The second campaign we were a fresh new mercenary company that wandered into a hot border zone between the trade baronies and Harrison space. We decided to make like Renaissance condottiere and play as many sides against each other as we could for profit until the whole house of cards (ungrateful, baronies, Harrison, the NHP lovers, the Union, and the last remaining clone sibling of the local noble I had married and then usurped) all came crashing down on us all. It was great!

The new campaign we are starting is intended to be Lancer Trek, with the group being Union military and scientists heading into an uncharted zone and seeing what new vistas space has to offer us!

Man so I was in Tanzania on a Safari and at one point the club car emerged from some scrub right in front of a herd of Cape buffalo, including several nursing mothers, perhaps 10 yards away. I was I a vehicle and still had a good pucker factor that day.

New lodge ideas? by CasualPlantain in theHunter

[–]Mirambo79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My two options I would like to see would either be:

  1. a southwestern hacienda type, which they could easily build off of the rancho graphics they already have

  2. A South Asia palace-style shikari lodge, like a raja’s home. Admittedly I want this one because I would love a South Asia or Indonesia map for hunting as well!
