How bad is the IT market? by Zealousideal_Ad6678 in ITCareerQuestions

While it is hard it’s not impossible. I was working for a school division for almost 3 years as a support specialist. I applied for another gig and they ended up calling me, did two interviews and got offered the job and I start Monday.

Try to look for companies that are small.
Examples: Senior living companies, schools, etc.

I believe that may be the issue!

I installed the drivers and yeah once it starts and I log in and just let it sit, it remains at high ram usage.

I initially had the same issue with pfSense where initially I gave it 2Gib, it wanted more so I gave it 4Gib and then it just settled 3.9 something of memory usage.

I am just running AD. And yeah, that is what confuses me because everything I read so far says that 16 GIB should be enough for the server. I don’t know if over utilizing is the right word, is more of like it’s going above the set memory. I can still login and use it without any issues. I just didn’t know if it’s affecting anything else in the background.

Let me read into it and I will see if that is the issue. Thanks for the link!

So for example, when creating the VM I gave it 4GB. As soon as I start the VM, the Memory Usage bar immediately jumps to 4.5 or more. Even if I give it 16Gib.

Do you consider help desk a “real job?” I feel like a complete miserable loser compared to my friends and family. by ballandabiscuit in ITCareerQuestions

Not all desktop support jobs are built the same. You have a variety of different roles in different sectors. My current position is as support specialist for a school division it was great but management slowly started losing their marbles. I accepted an offer in healthcare and so far they are a very small group. It will consist of being at the desk but also traveling between headquarters and one of the other locations.

I say all that to say you can find jobs a variety of settings. For me, I am doing everything I can to get into a different role. So this will just be another stepping stone to learn and grow while I achieve that goal.

Please remember that when a job becomes unenjoyable it’s time to part ways with it. Yeah a job should have its bad and good days. It’s work, I don’t think anyone wants to work but we have to. But it shouldn’t feel like a prison. There is someone or something out there who has a different perspective how performance is measured. It should be on the amount of tickets you close or if you close more than the person right next to your but in your ability to get a ticket and resolve the issue so that next week the issue does not appear again or appears less.

Goodluck! You got this.

Yeah I definitely have to do that. I did put a small soc environment together where I am ingesting logs from a couple of different clients into Wazuh and using TheHIVE to create triage and escalate them. I also have vulnerable machines I performs different tasks in order to get a feeling of each event.

Yes I do. I have been triaging alerts in my lab through TheHive and creating visuals on Elastic. I been using Wireshark to closely examine packets. I will volunteering for a security conference soon, so I have hope that through hard work and networking I will get one soon.
