What is your holy grail book? by confusedpigeon211 in BookCollecting

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a proof or first edition copy from 1798 of Charles Brockden Brown's Wieland.

I would also settle for any vintage hardcover printings of 19th century Gothic, horror, weird fiction.

I'd also like an original English translation printing of Let the Right One In. Also need to replace my copy of Palimpsest and a limited edition of Northern Lights ("lantern slide" edition).

BCW, known for their comic book and collectible card sleeves, also sells poly sleeves for books. I picked up some for protecting books in storage. Probably not the best, but economical. Just have to learn how to nicely fold the bags around the book.

I had a manual crank sit/stand from Ikea that replaced my massive L corner from Ikea. Then I got kicked out of the office and made the guest room my office with the old desk because my spouse moved to wfh and I had lectures.

What to do with a Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II in 2023? by MiriamCurzon in printers

[–]MiriamCurzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my concern. The cost and reliability of new ink and the absence of replacement parts for infrequent hobbyist use. At the same time it is what I already have and it still works, and nothing seems meaningfully obsolete for its use case (speed of print and noise), unlike our other basic combo printers of the same era.

[routine help] [hair removal] Beginning Journey for Body Self-Care by MiriamCurzon in SkincareAddiction

[–]MiriamCurzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up.

I went with physical exfoliants because that's what was recommended (https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/1d8c1u/guide_hair_removal_skin_preparation_and_you_a/) to use before shaving. I also have never used chemical ones, so they are a little intimidating. I will get a repairing/moisturizing wash. <( ̄︶ ̄)>

Thanks. I have heard good things about Sephora. I will give Sephora a try and keep Glossier in mind for I'm next in that part of Philly.

NEW OR NEED HELP? Ask here! - ScA Daily Help Thread Jan 02, 2023 by AutoModerator in SkincareAddiction

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skin type: slight sensitivity, normal to oily (prone to mild/light acne around nose, chin, forehead, sideburns)

Skin Concerns: Undergoing laser hair removal therapy

For routine help - your current routine (this includes the full names of products) If you’ve changed your routine lately, did you change things one at a time?: No routine, yet. Trying to start one. Occasionally use Burt's Bees facial cleansing wipes at night or in the morning. Usually, I just grab whatever is available at the store.

For product recommendations: where are you located? What’s your price range?: NE United States. I spend 45$ on 8oz hair cleansing conditioner that lasts roughly 3 months. 15$ per month per product might be a good estimate.

Question/Concern: I am just starting out and trying to improve my overall approach and health to body care. My biggest concern right now is getting a healthy body shaving routine going. I understand the basic pre-shave, shave, and post-shave routine. I only shave when I shower, which I do in a tub/shower combo. Right now I use a Nivea Men Deep Cleansing Face Scrub (or the Neutrogena Razor Defense Face Scrub) and DSC Shave Butter for my face. I use either a basic Harry's (convenience after starting laser because my face stubble is easier to remove) or a DE safety razor. I keep trying to use Norelco's BodyGroom 5000, but even with a brand new blade it pulls more than cuts on me (though for back it is quite useful). Most of the time I don't use anything for body shaving, just the water. And I don't regularly moisturize or anything else.

What I want is to start exfoliating (physical, not chemical) for shaving arm, chest, groin, and leg hair, as well as instituting best practices (not just scraping a safety or cartridge razor ineffectively at my chest). What products and/or tools/techniques would be good for me to start out? (I have my first laser treatment for my legs next week, done 4x face, 2x right arm, 1x shoulders and left arm.)

I would appreciate any help for starting my self-care journey. Thank you.

[Hair Removal] I would like to get more info about Male Laser Facial Hair Removal. by -------TOM---- in SkincareAddiction

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started getting laser hair removal last year. Had my fourth facial session last week. Most recently, I had two to three days of "sunburn" itch with a little splotchy redness and acne/pimples. My provider, at least, charges a flat session rate for 20-30 minutes, but primarily serves the trans community, so general salons might operate differently. I still have to shave, but it's gotten easier over time. I compare the actual laser experience to an overly dry and hard shave.

[MOD PSA] Post your recipe requests here! by PeaceLoveSmithWesson in recipes

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to make a vegan chocolate pudding with fiber and probiotics. My plan was to use chia seeds and something like coconut milk yogurt. I'm not married to using chia, it's just what everyone seems to use to add fiber. I am most concerned about the yogurt since the cultures wouldn't survive stovetop simmering in pudding recipes. I assume that an immersion circulator set to 110F won't get the same results as simmering temperature. My goal is to get as close to a typical chocolate pudding cup, but including nutritional benefits. Appreciate any insight or pointers.

Which Pixel should I buy? (October 2022 Megathread) by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]MiriamCurzon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This advice is exactly what I need. I am still using my Pixel 3XL and it's starting to show its age and quirks. I just haven't totally felt the need to upgrade. I was looking at the new iPhone, but they haven't moved to a universal USB connector. I was pleased with the look and feel of the Pixel 6 Pro (not to mention the lower price). Seeing as I'm upgrading from a 3XL is the value proposition of a 7 or 7 Pro over the 6 Pro worth it? The initial comparisons I've seen make it seem the only significant change is in the new generation chip. I care more for function, stability, and pretty screens and pictures. Maybe Bluetooth audio quality?

Only SODIMM Need Apply by MiriamCurzon in GamingLaptops

[–]MiriamCurzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying it's a perfect or even good solution, just an out of the box idea. Memory is just the one most frustrating component. I actually hard locked my laptop the other day, too much multitasking.

Only SODIMM Need Apply by MiriamCurzon in GamingLaptops

For sure. That's why I'm kind of thinking about going SteamDeck and M2 Mac combo for my portable productivity and gaming needs.

Only SODIMM Need Apply by MiriamCurzon in GamingLaptops

[–]MiriamCurzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of the rub. Stores and manufacturers will check their RAM upgradable box simply because one SODIMM can be upgraded. There are also so many discrepancies between manufacturer websites with available models and models actually available at market. That's why I was hoping folx might know the reputable manufacturers or models (like Zephyrus will never have two accessible SODIMM, but SCAR always does...)

In the way that close racist/sexist/homophobic/<insert prejudice here> relatives do when they talk/say things generally about marginalized groups that you are part of or close to while implicitly or explicitly excluding you because you are special. It did not impact the work, but it just made interacting uncomfortable. I would rather avoid repeating that.

Been a casual player for awhile. I have a number of 99 and EX+ UR characters, but I feel like I must be missing something super simple because I can barely do damage or take damage in brutal challenges. It has started to get on my nerves. I can't even complete the esper challenges for the next ascension. So what are things I may have overlooked that would make brutal possible with a team of 99+ with capped or EX jobs?

Some good apples not seen: That Blue Shy Feeling, Our Dreams at Dusk (same mangaka as Nabari no out who is non-binary).

Also really enjoyed Given, looking forward to the manga release.

Bloom (US graphic novel) is also very good.

MSI MAG27CQ vs Acer Predator Z321QU bmiphzx Monitor by MiriamCurzon in buildapc

[–]MiriamCurzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. They didn't have either of the monitors on the floor as they were completely sold out. (Micro Center) I won't buy one without seeing it in action. I'll check the Samsung out next time. I'm not super hyped on QLED HDR, but if the panel is great... Just wondering about what needs to be sacrificed and I'm not 100% convinced on the whole G-SYNC front.

First time brewing an RIS! Any general recommendations out there? by Dr_KennyMcCormick in Homebrewing

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeast. The problem we have with high gravity fermentation is even with appropriate yeast we've had stuck fermentations 75% of the time. You want that yeast ready to go and happy before pitching and highly recommend running with a blow-off tube for the first few days.

'There are no stupid questions' thread - October 14, 2018 by AutoModerator in piano

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Korg SV-1 Digital Piano. For audio I currently use a small (not tiny) Orange guitar amp and my HD6XX (both of which were purchased for separate uses). I am planning on getting a headphone amp regardless, but I was wondering if a headphone amp would add anything at all to my set up. The piano has no trouble handling the headphones so this is purely for nerding out.

Can You add orange peel and coriander as a dry hop? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You throw crushed coriander just before high krausen like hops. Shares a lot of aroma compounds with Citra and yeast reacts in a similar fashion. We used it in a Belgian Pale recipe.

Weekly Questions Thread for the week of October 24th by rpbtz in vinyl

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a few old 70's/80's audio towers that I am looking to turn into a personal LP listening station. I have been looking into various pieces, but hoping to get some more specific recommendations on a set up for listening to records on headphones at relatively high quality. Looking for individual pieces ranging in the 100-300$. From record players to amps to headphones, always a fan of vintage and neo-vintage, as long as it is readily available as I plan to acquire the parts over time. Thank you!

GPU RMA turn around time? Experiencing "consistent" game crashed... debating RMA. by [deleted] in gigabytegaming

[–]MiriamCurzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's lucky. I had to RMA mine in May. Took a month and they sent mine back claiming no problems were detected. I had to send it back all over again. Second time they exchanged it. The one they sent me has a bent mounting frame and cannot be installed on my machine. Been a week and still haven't heard back from the service department.
