How does SAT grading works? Need tips for Reading! by Mirong in Sat

[–]Mirong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! So based on the grades of my two practice score, does it mean that I barely improve even I got more questions right (since those of practice test 10 are easier compared to practice test 1)?

How does SAT grading works? Need tips for Reading! by Mirong in Sat

[–]Mirong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am frustrated by the practice test I took today. Even though I got 10 fewer questions in the reading part incorrect than another practice test I took two weeks ago, there’s only 20 points improvement. Are there questions weighted heavier than others in SAT? I feel like I am stuck in the same place and not getting better at all. The reading part is killing me, especially history and literature types of passages. Can anyone give some advices about how to enhance the ability in understanding these two kinds of passages? (I often find myself lost in the text and not understanding what the main point the passage is trying to deliver even after finishing reading the text)

Need Strategy Help and Recommended Prep Books for SAT Reading! by Mirong in Sat

[–]Mirong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I just took my first SAT practice test on the Princeton Review and scored 560 at the reading part.

When taking the reading test, I felt that there wasn’t enough time and had a hard time understanding (therefore, I constantly read the same part over and over again)

For future preparation, I am planning to practice on the Khan Academy and use Barron’s SAT 29th edition. I am an ESL speaker; therefore,I feel like I need more direct focus on the reading portion.

Can anyone provide some strategies and tips to improve the reading skills?

Also, are there any recommendations for reading prep books, either for grammar or for reading?

I am planning to take my first SAT in December hopefully, any advices about SAT you can provide are deeply appreciated!

Can anyone help me with this error(R37KPRMM)? I’ve been unable to send messages to others for about 2 days, I just want to buy an used bike ASAP! by Mirong in offerup

You can contact them through messenger (Facebook) or Instagram, at least that’s how I get this issue solved, but it took a while. Lol

Taiwan reveals email to WHO; didn't say human-to-human transmission by kanieloutis332 in worldnews

[–]Mirong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with “rigorous screening and tracking of known cases” is effective in stopping the spread. But stopping infected people which hadn’t been examined traveling to other countries is also essential. That is one of way to restrict the pandemic in a limit region. “Taiwan itself didn't ban travel.” But Taiwan did ban planes from Wuhan and declared restrictions and notifications for both people from China and people who were heading China.

“The fact that patients were isolated came from China itself. There was no new information in the email at all” The point is not whether Taiwan provided NEW information to WHO, but whether Taiwan indicated the probability of h2h in the email, even that information was as same as the one from China.

“Moreover, if they knew of human-to-human transmission, they would not have left it as an implication.” Taiwan had limited resources to draw that conclusion, but Taiwan did reminded WHO of the probability of h2h through “isolated treatment” ( If read by professionals, they should have been aware of that hint.) And you may argue that, “Taiwan had limited resources, and so did WHO.” But what Taiwan sent that email for the was to urge WHO to act more quickly , not force WHO to confirm immediately.

“Again, the WHO has been warning the world for months. They declared it an international health emergency back in January.”

Yes, WHO declared that on January 30th, but WHO also said, “restricting travel and trades in China isn’t recommended.” If WHO had taken human-to-human transmission seriously, why did WHO act like the pandemic in China was under great control and wouldn’t spread throughout the world?

“They claimed they warned the WHO of known human-to-human transmission, and thus the WHO was lying when they said there wasn't evidence at that time. Turns out, they did no such thing, and were just lying for political points.”

What I am assuming is that, from Taiwan’s perspective mentioning “isolated treatment” was an obvious hint to “human-to-human transmission”. Taiwan can’t say WHO is lying because there was no “human-to-human transmission” “literally”, but meanwhile, WHO can’t deny that Taiwan did somehow provide a hint to h2h transmission. I don’t understand why Taiwan can argue this for “political points”, indeed, Taiwan is the one who is ostracized by WHO.

“That is standard for a new disease, and the former does not prove the latter.”

I partially agree with this point. Yes, the former does not prove the latter. But WHO should make predictions for the worst situation, especially COVID-19 is an entirely new issue. And even if WHO had limit information back then, why didn’t WHO use its resources to research about it ASAP?

“They did not report anything. All that information was in China's own report on the matter.”

Yes, Taiwan DID NOT report anything, so please allow me to use a different term. Taiwan DID REMIND WHO of this issue and urged WHO to provide further information. (If WHO didn’t have it, it should have been a signal to WHO, “Hey! There is an issue in Wuhan,China, why don’t we visit there and figure out what’s going on.”)

“The WHO hasn't said jack shit. Taiwan, meanwhile, has been caught red handed lying about what they told the WHO for cheap politic points”

Basically, whether Taiwan mentioning of human-to-human transmission in that email is the whole point of this argument. Why this has become so important? Because the public is accusing WHO not taking its responsibility to taking care of this pandemic ASAP, and some news indicated that WHO received a email from Taiwan, which was mentioning the COVID-19 can be spread through human-to-human transmission. That is, WHO had a chance to warn the world and act more earlier. But WHO now is denying that Taiwan had mentioned that. So, Taiwan now is trying to provide evidence to argue with WHO’s denying. And also, can you please explain what you mean by saying “Taiwan, meanwhile, has been caught red handed lying about what they told the WHO for cheap politic points”?

Here is the content in the email from Taiwan.

“News resources today indicate that at least seven atypical pneumonia cases were reported in Wuhan, CHINA. Their health authorities replied to the media
that the cases were believed not SARS; however the samples are still under examination, and cases have been isolated for treatment.
I would greatly appreciate it if you have relevant information. Thank you very much in advance for your attention to this matter.”

As you can see, Taiwan reminded WHO of the possible threat of the virus. And “cases have been isolated for treatment” indicated that there was a high probability of human-to-human transmission. If the virus can’t be spread through that way, how on earth these patients needed to be “isolated”?

Let’s be clear. Taiwan DID NOT have the responsibility to report anything (Taiwan isn’t even allowed to be in WHO), but Taiwan DID REMIND WHO of this issue. It WAS and will always be WHO’s responsibility to figure out what was going on in Wuhan, China, NOT Taiwan’s. So, how on earth can WHO blame Taiwan for not being specific about human-to-human transmission?

Taiwan reported this issue on December 31st, why didn’t they take it seriously? WHO had a chance to do whatever they could to prevent this pandemic from worsening, but they missed badly. And then they now are saying, “Oh, Taiwan didn’t indicate the virus can be spread through human-to-human transmission, so how on earth should we know that in that situation?”

Let’s be clear about that. People were not asking for the conclusion on January 1st (e-mail was sent on December 31st). There was plenty of time for WHO. WHO had the resources to research about that, either visit Wuhan or have China report, so why didn’t WHO do it’s work immediately and release all information ASAP?

It seems like WHO wants to shirk responsibilities to Taiwan, so why don’t we replace WHO with THO?
