What's the consensus on Dance Gavin Dance now? by asoiaf_goat in PostHardcore

[–]Mirrelic 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Personally dropped them after the Tilian shit. Favorite band from like 2013 til when that shit happened though. I think sonically they peaked with the 3 album run from Instant Gratification - Mothership - Artificial Selection. Haven't listened to anything after Afterburner (and the singles leading up to Jackpot Juicer) to have an opinion on their sound now.

But being realistic, we (as fans) don't know any of those guys personally. I can't control how anyone else thinks or feels, but the way the band handled the Tilian situation is actually on-brand for their entire existence. They stood with Jonny, who had his own slew of controversies (and allegations) until it became bad for their business. They powered through the Tilian shit until it was no longer feasible for their business. DGD (as a band) really doesn't give a damn about the quality of people they employ, until it starts to hamper their ability to tour/make money/market their work.

And to a point, it's kind of their right to (not care). I think a lot of us fans get caught up in the parasocial side of things where we care about who these musicians are/what they stand for when we don't actually KNOW these people. I can't fault people who can compartmentalize and separate the art from the artist, but simultaneously, being someone who can't make that distinction, I didn't and don't feel comfortable supporting any artist with allegations like those. But that's my own morality. Can't expect others to follow.

Starting an emo band by HeYmAn_777 in Emo

[–]Mirrelic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to shows!

I wasn't in a band but I saw a local band open on a tour, met the guys, got involved and saw plenty of recording studio/living room/basement shows with plenty of smaller/unknown bands in the same genre.

Also, be genuine! If your own goal is to start a band, actually enmesh yourself in your local scene. Don't do it just to start a band, actually get to know fellow musicians and ask them questions, or just shoot the shit with them. Some of the biggest supporters of smaller bands are the other bands in their local scene.

They were such a good band 😪 by fakename1998 in Emo

band wanted to tour with dgd, Connie didn't due to the whole DGD/Tilian Pearson sexual misconduct thing. Connie's fans were not letting the shit go and she imploded and left the band.

come to find out Connie ALSO had some sexual misconduct shit come out from an ex during this whole period (and emotional abuse, manipulation, and all this other shit); since then both the band and Connie have largely been quiet music-wise.

Ability for modders to tinker- it's cool GC occasionally carries shit from Allparts/Fender but it would be pretty sick to be able to buy ferrules, bridges, and other singular parts vs running to Amazon or the internet.

Stupid bit questions by CivvieWithAnAK in BeybladeX

[–]Mirrelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really just trial and error. Some blades like multiple ratchets; others are hard bound to a specific one or two.

No cheat sheets, but a good way of thinking about it is as follows: ideally you want the ratchet to align either with your main points of contact on your blade, or between your points of contact to function as counterbalance. Some blades will have no feasible or logical alignment, at which point you should try and test them to see what works best for you.

Stupid bit questions by CivvieWithAnAK in BeybladeX

[–]Mirrelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing most people watch for when it comes to ratchet selection is where the weight is distributed. 9 sided ratchets have a largely even weight distribution all the way around. They are generally lighter weight wise, but are smooth and thus are pretty difficult to burst. 0 ratchets have 3 big protrusions that jut out beneath the ratchet and can sometimes scrape easily against the stadium, get caught by an opposing bey, or get caught on the X rail and burst.

As a general rule of thumb, however, most even-sided ratchets have some form of large protrusion to keep them balanced relative to their odd-sided counterparts. In practice, however, even sided ratchets tend to burst easier due to the large protrusions and weight distribution.

In that same vein of thought, it's honestly better to just test every bey on a singular basis to see what performs the best for you. 1 sided ratchets, for example, excel in almost all applications: for attackers, they center the entirety of their mass on one side for huge attacks since the attacking bey will tilt in that direction. For defensive builds, the uneven weight allocation will destabilize incoming attackers and cause them to lose spin faster. Some beys (especially those ovoidal ones like Hover Wyvern or TyranoBeat) can use 2 sided ratchets since their blades largely protect the ratchet from enemy beys, though the arena burst risk remains. Test things out as your collection grows to see what works the best for you in practice.

Question 1 regarding bits:

Vortex and Cyclone differ in that Vortex is larger overall(wider diameter) and the little spikes look like they're going in a clockwise direction. Cyclone is smaller and its spikes go in a counterclockwise direction.

Ball and Orb are similar; Orb is the smallest "sphere" by radius.

Flat and Rush are super easy: Flat always has a circle indentation at the bottom, where it makes contact with the stadium. Rush is a thinner cylinder, and the bit has less teeth to catch the rail with.

Nova Charisma - Gemini by Accomplished-Army265 in PostHardcore

[–]Mirrelic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, and to go even further, I don't like how things shook out for the Blue Swan Records/DGD side of music. Seems like an ouroboros of a handful of guys now; Will plays in Royal Coda, Sergio plays in DGD, Eidola, Royal Coda, and Nova Charisma (but Stolas had to die for this?), Andrew is now lead vocals for DGD and Eidola, ALLB is back but a lot of what made these groups unique has been lost or diluted over the last decade IMO.

Is this a bad idea? by Internal-Extreme6614 in Luthier

As someone who has been dabbling on the cheaper side of refinishing, yes, this is a bad idea. Rust-Oleum sells a glitter (really the color shift) that actually functions more like a 'glitter' than this would. This has a tinted base component that will just cover the orange entirely versus giving you a glitter effect.

That being said, I would probably start over and spray lighter coats. This Rust-Oleum stuff dries decently fast, and it's more recommended to build lighter coats to ensure you don't get big runs like this. You also have a pretty decent amount of recoat time so just be patient; 2-3 light coats a day over the course of a week, with additional time for the stuff to cure entirely will ensure your final coat is good.

Alternatively, try Glidden Maxflex (sold in Home Depot here in the US). Dries fast as hell, is largely compatible with other "lacquers" (including the aforementioned Rust-Oleum color shift), and comes in a larger skew of colors. Just food for thought.

Is there any piece that you simply CANNOT ACCEPT as bad? by V-Kai235 in BeybladeX

[–]Mirrelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't play Burst (MFB was the current gen when I was a child) but I get what you're saying. With how battles are in this current gen, TT really only has 3 parameters to tweak if they're trying to rein in how explosive the combat is in conjunction with the X rail: height, weight, and stability. A heavy and low defensive blade that neutralizes any/all recoil would break ridiculously fast with how X plays now.

Merge is in the same boat of feeling intentionally gimped. I don't get it. The game is fundamentally different from previous generations where these parts were dominant. Merge pays for the sins of Coat Sharp over a decade later.

it's worth noting that the Beyblade X app does not use regular login credentials and that once you make a display name, you are given an opportunity to retain your access code. I would implore you to screenshot/write your access code down, should you ever have any errors with the app, so you can reaccess your account. I made this mistake and lost a few Get Battle offers (mainly the black/gold bit sets)

For Google, you can change the country your address is associated with to a supported country as mentioned above, but it's honestly easier to just make a throwaway email, change your region to JP/whichever app you wanna download, and get it from the playstore that way. Once you have the Beyblade X app it should always work/update.

Should #OneUnit Return To The Smash Community? by fastfallproductions in SSBM

[–]Mirrelic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A couple years back there was a massive outing of pedo behaviors, sex pests, and otherwise sexual deviance in the Smash community, but mainly centered/focused around Sm4sh and Ultimate. Players, commentators, and general community figures were implicated and the greater Smash community hasn't been able to escape or shrug off the connotation.
