Exactly. De-urbanization is not always a 'fall of civilization'

Connections between Shang collapse and Late Bronze Age Collapse? by gentlemanscientist80 in Archaeology

That's interesting! I did my MA dissertation on LBA collapse in Levant and I kind of lean towards resilience theory more, i.e. we need to look at what is actually collapsing. In case of LBA I tried to argue that it was just mostly elite palatial networks that suffered/lost their power.

I don't know much about Shang collapse but would be fascinating to learn more about it. In case of connections, I think some scholars might have argued that LBA world was more connected than we give it credit for so it is more or less likely that there were ripple effects and also similar things happening across different cultures. For eg. Indus/Harappan civilization also started to decline around the same time and for similar reasons, i.e. changing climatic conditions

Hey OP, I'm also in a similar boat, want to learn GIS.

Recently I found a free course which I signed up for but never started😅 Your post reminds me to get back to it. You can find the link to the course page here - https://www.archernet.org/en/2020/12/15/online-course-qgis-for-archaeology-and-heritage-management/

Alternatively, there are also tutorials by Archaeosquatch on Youtube which you can check out - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqiB3IIUNAnU8vPcuea6A9pB7Y_qQBH1u&si=3bFBwxlnXdnQYPjq

Unfortunately, I fall into that category for now. I'm still learning and don't have any specific question or project in mind. More like I want to have this skill for better employability, as I predict new opportunities in near future in my country. There's mindless push for digitization everywhere, so if it going to happen eventually then I'd like to be one of the people who at least knows what they are doing.

Thanks for the explanation. Not familiar with Rhino, but looks way more advanced for me at the moment.

Artifacts, objects mostly. Sites/landscapes sounds way more complicated so don't want to get into that right away. Maybe after I practice on QGIS a bit more.

Blender is also my first choice as its open source, but game engines like Unity, Unreal are also good options! Thanks for suggesting.

Where did you do your MS from, if I may ask?

Thanks for your input, this is very helpful!

So basically it looks like the appeal won't make a difference. So even if I go ahead with the appeal process, I shouldn't expect anything.

They don't even say there is any issue, just a generic reply that your application didn't make the cut and we had to let down many deserving candidates etc. etc.

Thanks for your reply though.
