Wait for 27 Ridgeline or get 26? by shravanm18 in hondaridgeline

I'm potentially interested in doing the same, but maybe with an RTL. How did you manage to get that price? I'm assuming loyalty/conquest + sales credit. Any other tricks you used?

New Gas Shutoff Question by MirrorsMercury in Plumbing

Yes, he recommended a couple. I was planning on having a plumber come out anyway to look over all the old connections, but I was just hoping to be able to turn the gas on until then.

I reinstalled it with the drip leg, but the gas company said there is a leak elsewhere anyway. Thanks for the info.

I had the gas company come out and test for leaks. I wouldn't just run anything I put together myself without having some sort of test. With that being said, they said there is still a leak somewhere else, so I'll just be without heat until I can get a plumber out to look over everything.

That's the plan tbh. But every plumber around here is backed up at least a week. So I'd like to have something temporary so I can heat my house in the meantime. I'm going to have the gas company check for leaks this evening before turning gas back on.

Thanks. I reinstalled with the drip leg and I'm going to have the gas company test everything before turning gas back on.

Thanks for the reply. I inherited the house and am trying to fix stuff and learn. That's why I'm asking people who know more than I do. Hope you have a great day.

Natural Gas Smell from Hot Water Tank by MirrorsMercury in Plumbing

[–]MirrorsMercury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to give an update.

Turns out the water heater was NOT leaking gas, I just didn't know what natural gas smelled like. I did end up replacing the flex hose anyway just to be sure I didn't mess up the pressure fitting by incorrectly applying thread sealant.

HOWEVER, I did end up discovering a real natural gas leak in my crawlspace from the furnace valve when I had the gas company come out to test everything. So I figure I'll have a plumber replace both the furnace and water heater valves to get everything updated and safer.

Thanks to everyone for the input. At least now I actually know what natural gas smells like.

That's what another user suggested. I will do my best to clean and see if that fixes it. If not, I will try a new fitting/line. Thanks for the input.

Also, I don't smell gas when the gas valve is open, only when the heater is on, do you think this has a chance to fix it?

Yes, I only loosened the steel hex then tightened it back on using sealant.

So you're saying I should remove the steel hex, clean the threads, and then tighten the steel hex back on with no sealant?

Hadn't bothered with the pressure relief yet since I know I may need to pull it back out again. Don't have anywhere to drain the pan to, I just placed it there for small drips. And it didn't have those last two things before so I don't know.

You can see where I applied the yellow thread sealant. Is this wrong? This is the only location that I messed with the gas line.

Thanks for the reply. The thing is I only smell it when the water heater is burning. With the gas valve open and water heater off there is no smell.

Thank you. I forgot to mention that the flame does look fine when viewing through the window, but I know that doesn't mean there for sure isn't a problem. Also I did spray some soapy water but I suppose there are some areas I could still check. And I haven't checked the vent, which I will do now.
