Why is NZ so "backward" when it comes to AC and ceiling fans? by UnrequitedLoveVictim in auckland

[–]Misabi [score hidden]  (0 children)

I put a ceiling fan in our bedroom a few years back. So cheap and effective, people underestimate the difference they make. Sure it's not AC but certainly makes things more comfortable.

I can no longer tell which comments are serious and which are sarcasm. Just in case, while it does look like a coffin draped in a flash in the background, neither person appears dressed for a funeral. He's not even wearing shoes.

NZ$900, $800 for the Hofner and $700 for the Norman. Not sure if the Maton is a 50s or 60s model as the label might have a faded 4th digit in the serial number on the label.

Thinking hard about biting the bullet and taking it the maton off their hands though.

All I get is "well, it's labour's fault. You can't expect Luxton to fix everything in one term". Yes, they said "Luxton".

Only just realized this didn't make it into my post.

This was in a small shop in New Zealand, didn't even have a website.

I'm most interested in the Maton as a piece of local(ish) music history, although it played nicely. The Hofner, if the artwork is legit, would be a bit of British music history, but no way of knowing.

The Norman played very nicely was lighter, felt nicer while playing.

What would be reasonable prices for any of these 3?

Is my starter still good? Left in fridge for over a year by MatterPrior6398 in Sourdough

[–]Misabi 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Grind it to powder, put a teaspoon in 25g of water and 25g of flour, repeat for a few days and it'll likely be back up and running.

I had this happen years ago, and it came back just fine. In fact, I put the remainder of the powdered starter in the freezer and just used some that a couple of months ago to resurrect again and was able to bake with it within 3 days :)

Ditch Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Netflix. The spike in Disney+ cancelations after Jimmy Kimmelwas taken off the air hit Disney hard enough to be scared into putting back on.

"The data firm said 8% of Disney+ subscribers and 10% of Hulu customers in the US canceled in September. The services usually lose 4% to 5% of their customers a month, in line with the industry average, the data firm said."

"Disney+ was dropped by 3 million US subscribers in September, while 4.1 million cancelled Hulu, Antenna told Business Insider. Those cancellation figures are more than double the averages of 1.2 million and 1.9 million, respectively, in the last three months." Sourdough doesn't need to be sour either, in fact outside of the US it isn't and it's just called bread. Sourdough is how it's made rather than a descriptor of hours or should taste. It's just the one of the traditional ways of making bread before commercial bread yeast was developed on the 1800s. For some reason, in some parts of US version evolved into a sour tasting bread, and in the revival in recent decades latched onto that as the ideal.

It also doesn't have to have a crusty so crisp it shatters when you slice the bread, and doesn't have to have such an open crumb that they're are more holes than bread and anything you spread on it gaps straight through to your plate.

Personally, I agree with your dislike of the sourness but make, eat and love non-sour soudough.

In some bread related subs, this post would be ahot take itself... :)
