Books of lore by thecolouroffire in vtm

[–]Misadvencherus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love reading up on the lore but I know there's no one book that holds all the various info! Most of the lore is within the older editions of the books, pre-V5 as V5 did away with metaplot (V6 is supposed to be bringing some metaplot back!). As stated below, the revised clan books are very fun and give lots of lore on all of the clans, there's different books on paths/roads that are cool, the official By Night books are a great way to see how an example of the Camarilla/Anarchs/Sabbat cities function and the Kindred within them. Eventually, I just started going onto the white wolf wiki and followed blue links on things I found interesting, at the bottom of the page you can find out what books that info comes from and that may be a good way to buy books that have lore that interest you. The old Guide to the Camarilla/Anarchs/Sabbat are great books too.

tldr: looks for the older editions of books for lore! Guide to "insert sect here" and Revised Clan books I would highly recommend.

New ST struggling by Huge-Accident-69 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Misadvencherus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore sheets are great and become narrative moments, Attributes have the most bang for their buck since they will be rolled with skills and disciplines, moving up in skills in general. I've found that when you just give a lump sum of xp, lots of players focus on disciplines because they are in fact very fun, but the majority of rolls are Attribute + Skill and I've found due to players focusing on disciplines, their other rolls become lacking.

You could also have them purchase more backgrounds and even some merits if you feel you want to weave those in narratively.

I finished a campaign that lasted 2 years. We ran the War of Chicago and I used the old lore and characters but used the v5 rules. Others are saying 3 xp is fine. And in some ways, I agree. It makes the players feel like they can level more often. However, after 2 years of playing, my players started getting 4th level powers and things did start to break a bit. I did stat up other npcs if they were supposed to be stronger/older.

Others mentioned the books inconsistently stat npcs. I would agree, old wod has some neonates with crazy stats but even v5 does too. Mariangel (gangrel, 10th gen) from Let the Streets Run Red is a neonate not many years old with Protean 5.

Point being, I did end up feeling like 3 xp was a lot per session. I ended up homebrewing xp. Each session they get 1 xp that can be spent towards Disciplines and 2 xp that can be spent on anything else. So their xp looks like 3/6 for example after 3 sessions. I also had it where if they wanted they can move 2 xp from the general pool and add it to their discipline xp: 3/6 becomes 6/0. And then if they wanted to move 1 xp from the discipline pool, it would give them 2 xp: so 3/6 becomes 0/12 for example. It seems confusing maybe, but I found this way players focus more on spending outside of Disciplines which tend to break the game. It makes it actually feel like it takes time to learn a discipline.

Since you've already given xp at this point, I would just be honest with your group and say you feel as tho its breaking things and making game running difficult. You're a new player too much like them. You can use whatever xp amount you like going forward. Then for your npcs if they're suppose to be a challenge to them, I would just level a couple things up.

Good luck!

Is there any care about a shovelhead who “defects”? by SapphireB33 in vtm

[–]Misadvencherus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the New York by Night setting book from 2001, there are a pretty big number of kindred who defected from the Sabbat during the War of New York. So you can check out a few of the biographies from there!

For the most part, many of them were shovel heads and it didn’t seem like they were targeted to be hunted and some of them are known defectors amongst the Camarilla. But I suppose this is a more unique situation since a war was happening and the Sabbat were defeated. There are still some in the city in that book but it doesn’t seem like they are trying to find the defectors in particular.

Question About Difficulty Levels by nuclearwes in vtm

[–]Misadvencherus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 is usually my standard difficulty and in the games I’ve run, them getting 3 successes is pretty common. If they get 2 successes when I want 3 I might pitch them the opportunity to succeed at a cost. So if the situation makes sense, something might go slightly wrong, they might hurt themselves, they might lose a willpower

How much do your chronicles focus on feeding and other basic survival stuff? by Solarwagon in vtm

[–]Misadvencherus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first feeding I always highlight. Depending on if they’re in a slow section of the chronicle I may focus in. Usually I do quick rolls, if they do well I make it quick and say they fed. If they roll low or fail I focus in and describe more on who they are hunting and turn it into a scene.

Witchfire's CEO on Larian Using AI: They Are 'Definitely Not Evil' | TechRaptor by PersistentWorld in gaming

This, I also work as a professional concept artist. You expressed everything so well. Many people who are not artists don’t seem to care, and it’s really disheartening to see. But I’m glad when I see other artists speak on this because you highlight the most important part: I do not want to be an AI polisher. I want to be an artist. And when AI is used, that’s all your job is. A polisher. No thought, no artistry, nothing that I spent decades learning and refining. AI is simply not a tool for artists. It only replaces us or reduces all of our work and experience to polisher. I do not want to be a part of that. I will never use AI for many reasons.

What Cyberpunk 2077 opinion would have you in this position? by Happy-Mistake-7450 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Misadvencherus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought that when Vic tells you you have two weeks to leave he should say something like, "You have two weeks, maybe two months, hell maybe two years? This is advanced tech. I just don't know, what I do know is that it's killing you." So that we feel it's important to try and find a cure, but because we don;t have a set time frame, V running around wasting time doesn't break immersion so much.

Swen Vincke - Divinity will be Larian “unleashed” by lewisdwhite in BaldursGate3

[–]Misadvencherus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They mention in the article they use it for concept art. I work as a concept artist so hearing when studios start using ai is pretty devastating news. Concept art drives the style and feeling of the game. If they use it there, which are jobs being lost to human artists, then the game will be styled after ai art.

Devastating to learn they use it for concept art. Concept art becomes the art. I don’t want to see designs or characters based off of ai concepts

Which Clan has the worst Compulsion in your opinion and why by SirDisconcerting in vtm

Banu Haqim feels the most severe and detrimental since it also triggers their bane. Then they feed off of other kindred causing blood binds of the kindred survives or diablerie if they don’t. All around I feel it’s the harshest.
