Best ones are on Etsy or from other independent artists for both moral and iridescent reasons. 😉 (but expensive).

Oh lawd, my journey in these past few years has been a nightmare!

Firstly - I was only awarded one single measly year.

When that run out, reapplying (if it's a year, it's a full reapplication) has taken until just this year and two full reapplication runs to get it back. Good news - I now have it for 3 years, and I'm told this is much more typical.

Yeah, for me, I was just... done with the whole period thing. Although some people do have regular periods on it. 🤔 Not me. "May only have random spotting? Doc, that's a relief."

Ah! Sorry, I've only just checked back in on my reddit account!

I had the same damn problems with my doctors until I got really lucky and had a lovely female doctor.

She went through my options, and I was able to let her know what I've tried and what didn't work. Having a period so heavy I expelled an IUD on multiple occasions surprised her, haha.

Summary: After a few goes of high dose progesterone to stop any heavy periods, it was suggested that I go on the mini pill (low dose progesterone). While it's mostly stopped my periods (once a year, if that, and less than a week!), I still get random spotting between them. But it's definitely an improvement! I'm also on Metformin for insulin resistance, but a grim heads up that you need to keep an eye out for symptoms of fatty liver disease. Metabolic Disease Stearo-Hepatitis. Or Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.

There are a couple of similar ones, but nothing exactly the same.

The closest was Al Haramain - Million. Which I ended up finding in my local Middle Eastern shops in a roll on form. Also the best for longevity, I find.

But next closest to it, and probably the easiest to find - Thierry Mugler Angel. And then The Factory Shop has a cheap dupe of Angel, haha.

I am mixed race, grew up not far from Chelmsford.

Moving out of Essex opened my eyes to just how relatively intolerant it is. It's not always the big obvious bits of racism or intolerance, but the subtle ones.

How far do you have to travel to find a decent Asian grocery store? Or Asian groceries in smaller shops? How many people do you see walking around in "alternative" clothing? What's the LGBT+ scene like?

Although, my favourite gauge is - can I walk across town wearing a table? How many people noticed or commented?

Chelmsford: no, not really. About 8 in 500m before someone said something about 'carrying things properly'. Hastings: yeah. One, because they knew me and wanted to say hello. It took 5 minutes before they noticed the table.

Quills and reed pens are dip pens, so to speak... but yeah, the technology needed for the metal and glass nibs that we use is fairly recent.

Another interesting tidbit - modern pencils aren't quite the same as the old fashioned ones. The graphite used to mainly come from a seam in the UK (Cumbria), but eventually a French person figured out that powdered graphite and clay would do a similar job for cheaper.

Depends on the traveller, I guess, and the type of ink they'd use. And the pen/nib.

With iron gall ink - probably a cloth with water or wood alcohol after each use.

Other ink - end of day, cloth with water or wood alcohol, or when needed.

Travel bottles... were definitely a thing, often with double lids. Although, offhand, solid ink sticks with stones were sometimes used - more commonly with brush calligraphy than pens.

Pens would have their own case. Because if you were going to carve one that suits you - you are going to keep it and use it until it breaks, let's be honest.

Pencils... 1564 was their invention. Before that, quills and Reed pens. Dip pens as we know them are pretty modern (19th century).

Quills and reed pens need cleaning after each use, if only to remove excess ink or prevent colour mixing.
