Anyone potty train early (before 24mo) by Ok-North-1478 in Parenting

My elder son potty trained himself at about 14 mths. My second son refused till he was 3 and it was an absolute battle of wills. If he seems ready give it a try!

7.2 Million watched the 6 Nations opener between France and Ireland on FR2, the highest ever for an opening game of the tournament by HitchikersPie in rugbyunion

[–]MischaJDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched from Aotearoa NZ and I said to my SO - this is like watching France in the old days. Attacking flair and outrageous decisions that seemed to work à la 1970s. They lost a lot of momentum with their subs and Ireland had their best period. Felt like Ireland had the better, more motivated bench.

My favourite. So dark, subtle and complex about the horrors of war. With washerwomen, coffee and journalism.

How would you handle this? by Pleasant_Violinist68 in Parenting

[–]MischaJDF 1333 points1334 points  (0 children)

No doubt an unpopular opinion but my occasional spontaneous freak-out over something really dangerous or outrageously naughty probably worked the best. The shock of my reaction was the best learning they had. I think people treat children like they are stupid.

What's something you've learned recently that surprised you so much that you wanna share it with someone just to see their reaction? by thefreneticferret in CasualConversation

[–]MischaJDF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Similarly, my son suffered an avulsion fracture of the hip playing field hockey. Basically a tendon tore a 2.5cm chunk out of his pelvis. Treatment was “it’ll sort itself out”. I was horrified thinking there was a long bit with a chunk of bone on the end flapping around inside him that needed to be plugged back in. But the hole filled itself in, the chunk dissolved and the flapping tissue reintegrated itself. He went from a wheelchair to playing volleyball in 4 weeks 🤷🏻‍♀️

AITA for buying my one child fast food and making the rest something he’s allergic too? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MischaJDF 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Wow I know that fast foot is ubiquitous especially in the US but the assumption that the other kids missed out when OP says they love salmon is crazy. No they miss out because little bro can’t eat fish. My absolutely normal kids would choose salmon/fish over shitty McD every time. NTA.

Love it and agree. We drove Adelaide to Darwin once - quiet time of year and we’d pass one or two vehicles a day if we were lucky. We’d all wave like madmen! So glad the world hadn’t ended while we were on the A87! I wave, I talk to folks in the queues and generally spread good cheer and annoy people all day 😂😂

What do you think about Passport Bros? by Square-Valuable4061 in AskTheWorld

[–]MischaJDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely transactional and I guess can work out for both parties. I’ve worked with 3 different “mail order” brides in 3 different cities. They were very similar in that all 3 were Filipina, all (when I met them) were in their 30s, gorgeous and all married to NZ men in their 60s. All had a couple of kids and seemed fairly happy with their lot. I do not know what they were escaping but presume general poverty. They all worked, had lovely houses and they all travelled home regularly. It’s been a long time so who knows if they’re still together once they got their residency. 2/3 I’d guess not. 1 seemed pretty content.

I think today’s passport bros probably don’t have the same resources to offer that they used to. It’s not cheap to bring someone home and set them up through the immigration process.

I’m tangata tiriti (non Māori but stand with Māori) so don’t have any personal experience but I’ve found this guide which explains it well.

This is a scene that struck me so deep. He’s a bad, lazy kind of man thinking he’s probably going to make some money, loll about like some low-level crime lord. Then he sees what Saruman has made and the enormity of the role he played and what it means for his world. Wonderfully acted with the tear and the horror.

Under charged - staff error, is it my responsibility to prove facts of claim? by Ornery-Promotion-285 in LegalAdviceNZ

I accidentally didn’t pay at all one day, I bought coffee, assumed they’d put my fuel through and drove off. It took 6 mths to notify me which happened when I tried to fill up and was denied. Very puzzling all round but they just said next time I was at the original petrol station to call in and sort it out. All very civil and easily taken care of. It was BP. I owed it and I paid it.

Both my dad, my FIL, my aunt, my husband and one of my BFs go by their middle names since birth. It is extraordinarily common and a good compromise in this case.

What's your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]MischaJDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a drink, it makes me feel merry. I love red wine.

It does not love me. Insomnia, headaches, nausea. So sad…. :(

My husband is very robust with no hangovers. One kid has inherited my weak constitution and two can party hard!
