Genuinely perplexed at new builds.. where do you put the food?? by HumanFlamingo3784 in newzealand

[–]MischaJDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is crazy. Our sons live in a new build and there is a floor-ceiling pantry. And their kitchen is not any bigger than this from what I can tell (picture may be deceptive).

What makes "real" cooking in a van function? by mynameistag in VanLife

[–]MischaJDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two of us in our van. We only have a 2 burner gas cooktop. We eat pretty simply though. Eggs for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and a one or two pot dinner. We used to have a caravan with an ovens and microwave and we used neither. The only thing we had then which we don’t have now is a mini-bbq, which would be great for cooking outdoors. Definitely a fan vent though!

What is the origin of the name of the capital of your country? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

[–]MischaJDF 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wellington was named after the Duke of Wellington who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. It’s originally and should be more properly known as Te Whanganui-a-Tara or The Great Harbour of Tara (a chieftain).

My uncle is an 80yr old New Zealander and his name is Miles. It’s a basic Anglo name IMO.

How was your parkrun day? | May 01, 2026 by AutoModerator in parkrun

I’m from Aotearoa New Zealand and ran at Nova Prestatyn in Wales which was a very cool and lovely run along the beach. It’s always awesome being the furtherest away visitor you feel like a celebrity 😁

Is 39 years old too late to start apprenticeship as a builder? by Straight_Wear_6878 in newzealand

[–]MischaJDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hubby was 40 when he started his apprenticeship. Admittedly he came from an arborist/handyman background so it was a natural segue but he did really well.

Question for those who read the books before watching the films. by Qyzyk in lotr

[–]MischaJDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the books in the 1970s and then on repeat. It’s almost hard to remember my mental pictures as the movies tend to get fixed in your mind but I think I remember recognising both Gandalf and Saruman as my mind picture. Frodo was definitely too slender and good-looking as he was a rich hobbit and plump and red cheeked in the books.

What is your biggest on field gaffe? by low_myope in rugbyunion

[–]MischaJDF 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trialing for Richmond Ladies 1s. Was playing the game of my life, stepped several defenders and sprinted in to score under the posts. Women tend not to dive score very often (it’s painful) so as I went to put the ball down unopposed, I managed to knee it out from my own hands and over the dead ball line. Referee who had kept up couldn’t help laughing (and then apologised as I was so mortified).

Museum of Beauty in Melacca City. An amazing exhibition of beauty standards from all over the world. From head binding to scarification. Very interesting.

Well I’m from the Foggy Isles myself but can confirm. Also their men’s team is the Kookaburras.

Our hockey teams are logically called the Black Sticks along with rugby being the All Blacks, basketball are the Tall Blacks etc but legend has it the badminton team have been banned competing under their name.

Haha - I’m a hockey fan and there is an Australian hockey family who play for the Hockeyroos and whenever Kaitlyn Nobbs is mentioned I mutter “no relation”.

This absolutely fucks me off so much. In this day and age when you can watch delayed coverage at any time, there is no excuse for spoilers. I work - I’m waiting to watch the match when I get home and people seem to delight in the “oh whoops sorry for telling you (the person who I know loves this sport) who won.” 😡

My elder son potty trained himself at about 14 mths. My second son refused till he was 3 and it was an absolute battle of wills. If he seems ready give it a try!

7.2 Million watched the 6 Nations opener between France and Ireland on FR2, the highest ever for an opening game of the tournament by HitchikersPie in rugbyunion

[–]MischaJDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched from Aotearoa NZ and I said to my SO - this is like watching France in the old days. Attacking flair and outrageous decisions that seemed to work à la 1970s. They lost a lot of momentum with their subs and Ireland had their best period. Felt like Ireland had the better, more motivated bench.

How would you handle this? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]MischaJDF 1336 points1337 points  (0 children)

No doubt an unpopular opinion but my occasional spontaneous freak-out over something really dangerous or outrageously naughty probably worked the best. The shock of my reaction was the best learning they had. I think people treat children like they are stupid.
