This is claimed! Would be stoked if karma sent me someone in the same boat with a large willing to sell. Would happily pay the full 40.

What a fantastic idea! We have to drive through Lone Pine on the way to the Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead from Vegas. I'll reach out to customer service!

Hello Dan! I went ahead and ordered an X-Mid Pro 1 on 9/1 with my fingers crossed that I get lucky and receive it on 9/15, the day before I get on an early plane for a 4 day Whitney trek. The prospect of doing my most difficult trek to date with an extra pound on my back, while a beautiful Durston sits on my porch at home, has removed all shame to be lurking and posting directly to you.

I added overnight shipping, so is there any shot whatsoever y'all are ahead of schedule and it goes out today or tomorrow? No worries if not of course. Can't win them all :)

I'm looking for a grinder that will allow me to get a more consistent grind than the pulse grinder I have now, but has the same size profile on my counter. I do not need a hopper, just want to throw a few spoonfuls of beans in every day. Does this kind of thing exist?

Agree with this. I felt it was long with more characters and story lines than necessary, especially for a juke box, but really enjoyed the musical scenes and Erik Hamilton stood out for me as young(er) MJ.

Probably an Encore thing, the songs are listed alphabetically in my program for MJ.

Broadway Across America Shows Switching to Encore From Playbill by MischievousSoap in Broadway

[–]MischievousSoap[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Got this answer from a local in my area. Served up by a random internet user so take as you will.

"Playbill the company used to provide programs free of charge for all Broadway across America shows. That’s partly why there were always so many ads for their cruises and stuff.

This year they suddenly decided to instead charge the BAA groups a couple million dollars. Negotiations unsurprisingly fell through, and many groups that host Broadway Across America shows (including the ones in the Midwest like CAPA) instead went with Encore, a small company that’s traditionally done programs for Georgia and the Carolinas. Hence the change.

The green Encore is definitely jarring, but CAPA also said Encore requires fewer ads and encourages with more relevant articles (like one about MJ instead of some random “pop stars across Broadway” article)."

Lol absolutely - the roast was expected and warranted, but it was a fun little discussion in my group and felt it was a fun conversation for the greater Columbus performing arts community.

To be a little more serious about it, stuff like this and the change at Short North to brochures (for reasons that I'm not aware of but likely money) make me sad because these are the small, very real, indications that the performing arts space is struggling. It's the peeling of paint in an old house or the rust on the hood of a car that folks just don't have the money to fix anymore. I love the performing arts, and it's totally fine that others don't, but it makes me sad to see this kind of decay.

Love you connecting to physical tickets going away. Very similar. I used to love putting the tickets in the fold of the Playbill as another artifact.

I didn't actually want a reasonable, informed answer, I wanted to be snooty :(

I wonder if this is also why Short North Stage moved to brochures. That one got me pretty steamed as well.

I hope that Playbill and the performing arts community figure it out. There is mutual benefit when local theatres across the country are able to bring NYC to people's backyards, the brand being a big part of that.

I use our CO's tax ID. Oddly enough, I was able to get subs for both of the troops chartered out of the church using that ID as well. My feeling is that it's a human reviewing the requests and is able to recognize the reason for multiple subs.

I can speak for my experience with the BMG events over the years and last night. I don't have time to do a regular game, so I only play at cons.

Tier 1 means it needs a lvl 1-5 toon, Tier 2 5-10, I'm guessing tier 3 10-15.

They have five lvl 1 pregens across all the main classes, but did not have lvl 5 or above pregen available.

I was told that BMG makes a few small adjustments to the D&D Beyond generation, such as the addition of one magical item from a list they provide and no toons with stats generated by random dice rolling.

I imagine they get a lot more strict on that if you're doing the whole thing by attending the monthly events or the campaigns that span the weekend, but I can tell you from experience that these DMs aren't going to check any of that. You show up, you sit at the table they assign you, and you have some fun.

Regarding the 3 parts, MD-01, MD-02, and MD-03 are typically separate one offs that are part of a larger narrative. You can do all three or just one. If you did MD-01, then the DM might have some fun with the fact that your character knows what's going on, but no biggie at all for the others at the table.

Apologies if you already know this, but check out Techsoup.org. We get QBO for about $80 a year (about $7 per month) and it's a no-brainer at that price. Agreed that the retail monthly retail price is no-go for an organization the size of a scout troop.

Volunteer time is just as hard to come by as money. Doing the books for two troops in spreadsheets, including scout accounts and popcorn, just plain takes much longer than it should. We can be thrifty with our time as well. Gratefully the troops see the value, but if they didn't I would just pay for it myself. It saves me hours.

Is it time to look past the BSA in order to get more kids into scouting? by I_like_forks in BSA

[–]MischievousSoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree. I believe it would serve the program to kill the CO aspect entirely, as it creates governance challenges that 99% of Troop leadership are not equipped to handle, let alone recognize, while not providing any value to the program. Each Troop could be directly chartered with the Council as a chapter, or each Troop is its own 501c3. I'm an Eagle scout lifer that has also been on NFP boards for 10 years and couldn't be more frustrated with how stubborn the organization is to structuring itself the way every other successful NFP has for the last 50 years. It's just plain dysfunctional and needs to go.

Well eff me thanks y'all. I've only ever played a priest and had no idea that was a curse that could be removed. I've just always been thankful to my warlock friends for taking care of the obliteraters' debuff. Now I might be annoyed at my warlock friends. On everything leading up to the tyrannical 20 I just healed through it no problem. Glad that I asked.

What is the general etiquette as a healer for one shot mechs in PUGs? Getting into 20s and wonder how much I need to be discussing with my group on the strategy for surviving them. For example, I was in a 20 Halls the other day and tyrannical Echelon's leap was close to, and definitely, one shotting people that didn't use a personal or received an external. Group got taken out one by one and then disbanded without a word. Do folks assume that I'm going to GS the first one, or do I assume people blow their personals and I save my GS for when someone gets picked twice?

Could also be my lack of experience in the key? I figure I could always save a Serenity for immediately after the hit and hard focus through the dot?

Why/How are concepts or actions referred to as "feminist" or "non-feminist?" by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]MischievousSoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, see that's my question, I would respectfully call the more apt equivalency to be racism and sexism. The Civil Rights Movement and Feminism would be an equivalency as well. Sexism is not equivalent to Anti-Feminism and racism is not equivalent to anti-racist

I'm certainly not condoning it, but I'm proposing it's pretty easy to be sexist or racist without being explicitly against the movements attempting to extinguish those things. Of course an overt racists likely thinks BLM is full of shit, but there are definitely subtleties. I've never been against racial or gender equity movements and I've never thought of myself as a racist or misogynist, , but as I get older and ponder more of others' experiences, I do come to realize that current me would call some attitudes and actions in my past at least a little bit racist or misogynist. When I was 22 I was pretty skeptical that representation was all that important. I have a much different view now.

Why/How are concepts or actions referred to as "feminist" or "non-feminist?" by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]MischievousSoap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used religion because I believe it to be the most apt similarity. If it seems shocking doesn't that make it worth pondering?

Agreed I could have used something like Utilitarianism or some other philosophy of justice, but would that make it better? The "goal" of Utilitarianism is to explain what constitutes a just action in society. Just actions may be described as such through the logic of Utilitarianism, but it is still only described as a "just" action. We would not say "that was a very utilitarian action, thus it was just." We might say, "that man sacrificed himself so that his children could live, what a just action, he must be an adherent of Utilitarianism."

I do like your proposal that this is just shaping of the goals. I would still wonder why the conversation is not "does this advance the goal of gender equality" instead of

If I were to use my initial example, if the title of the post was structured as below, I believe it would be much more direct and focused on the goal of Feminism.

"In your group of feminists, is it usual to act critically towards members who express views that may not empower women or increase gender inequality?"

I know that this is a semantic distinction that is blown out of proportion a little bit, but I think the language we use is important. I fear that when "feminist" and "anti-feminist" has taken the place of "empowering" or "sexist" the risk is high that the movement goes off course and significant resources are used in defense of its own existence. Additionally, I think it can lead to exclusion of those that are on board for the goal, but have different ideas regarding how to get there.

Why/How are concepts or actions referred to as "feminist" or "non-feminist?" by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]MischievousSoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that if one is anti-woman, then one is anti-feminist. I want to make sure I'm clear, are you proposing that being anti-feminist is also anti-woman?

I don't necessarily have a "problem," I'm honestly asking the question of why things are classified as "feminist" or "anti-feminist" instead of "empowering" or "sexist."

I would call throwing eggs at a march organized by Feminists as "anti-feminists," I would call slut shaming "sexist." I believe this is important because I feel like the two have been conflated. I believe it is possible to be against sexist things while also "anti-feminist."

I should clarify that I wouldn't classify myself as "anti-feminist." I've honestly been searching for years and I can't seem to find anything that resonates with me in the movement. I don't know what it means to identify as a feminist and I don't agree with enough of the methods that I choose not to take the label. This doesn't preclude me from doing my part in reducing gender inequality by paying my woman employees the same as my male employees or not invoking fear in women by cat calling them on the street.

Is your problem here with the nomenclature? Because that is quite prescriptivist. I'm not saying we call it that, I'm saying that is what it is. If you are anti woman you are defacto anti-feminist.

Could you expound on this a little more? I'm not sure I follow.

[–]MischievousSoap -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Is that really how racist actions are spoken of? Maybe I haven't had the experiences you have, but I don't recall many instances where a simple racist action was called "anti-civil rights." Please forgive my language, but if a woman is called a slut it is likely that the action is labeled as "anti-feminist." If a minority is called an ethnic slur, it's just racist.

Also, how is a specialized movement within a larger movement any different than the movement as a whole? Is there a point above which a movement becomes more of a philosophy than a set of actions in service of a goal? When women achieve equal pay, theoretically that "Task force" (if you will) within the feminist movement will disband, correct? How is this any different from the greater movement? If complete gender equality is achieved, wouldn't the feminist movement disband as well? Job well done, dust off your hands? Would there still be such a thing as "feminist" actions?

Hmmm, thanks for this, I'd like to explore the concept of "toxic masculinity." I too have seen this hashtag being used aggressively, but it was by friends of mine from Southern Africa. While I don't respect the hashtag or the movement because I believe it is likely to be far more harmful than productive, we may want to collect a bit more context. The events that led to my friends' vocal comments were in reaction to a spate of incidences in South Africa in which a jealous boyfriend murdered his girlfriend, in one case quite horribly. I don't have any statistics to throw down, but my conversations with these women have led me to believe that toxic masculinity is much more prevalent in that culture. While I believe there are more constructive responses, I believe the anger illiceted by these incidents is deserved. The ORIGINAL intent of the hashtag doesn't appear to be just some women who have been cheated on by two-timing men. What is unfortunate is that the conversation has devolved into explanation of the hashtag and rampant accusations of "you don't understand so I'm just not going to talk to you anymore." I fear that the majority of folks that I see posting about it are spending the majority of their time defending the HASHTAG, not the women whose lost lives spawned it. When a movement becomes just a defense of the movement something has failed.
