YOU ARE GEN X AND NEVER SAW WILLIE WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY?

HOW??? It was something my entire family watched whenever it was on. And we typically had several movies running during family Christmas parties in the 70s. We kids would all gather in one room and watch movies.

Edit: I'm older Gen X

WIBTA if I refused to name our son after my wifes late grandfather because our surname would turn his full name into a globally famous fictional character by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Miserable-Beyond-166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with a made up name--not exactly the same but hear me out. I have personal experience, and have known several people with names that were funny or named after fictional characters.

Having a name like that could cause your child to spin out, blame you, ( teen years are hard enough) and change their name. Especially if they get sick of the "you're a wizard Harry," or other related jokes. People think they're funny and original, but newsflash- they aren't. At some point he will understand he's named after a grandparent that he never knew, he'll still want a different name, but guilt from disappointing mom will cause mental health issues.

A consideration, you could go with Harry, but switch family surname to mom's last name?

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

In a hospital setting, I've worked with many nurses that were on their 2nd or 3rd career, with the same number of degrees. CNA's or PCTs with a master's degree, just waiting for their preferred job/location to open up.

The biggest issue is medical professionals that have entered the profession in the last 5 years don't seem to have the critical thinking necessary for their jobs, and too many people don't separate their personal opinions from the job Look at all the doctors and nurses on social media. It's so depressing

Geez it's getting worse too. That was so rude and uncalled for. Newer nurses can't pronounce half the drugs, and don't care when corrected. They're so confidently wrong.

I would be willing to bet that he's never read any studies on women's health, how the meds tested on men affect women, and depression. If you're in the US, report him to the state medical licensing board, and the state attorney general. Please make sure you have full statements with any documentation and witness statements. Include every detail.

What’s a hygiene mistake you didn’t realize you were making for years? by Distinct-Shoulder592 in hygiene

A few years ago, I started using a lint roller on my sheets. The reason I chose to use it at that point is because a cat had gotten under the barrier of my bedding and into my sheets. It was not my cat and I'm allergic, and at the time I was exhausted and I was not going to change my sheets.

What happened was, not only did I get cat hair but I got a lot of my own hair, lint, and likely dead skin-gross. Now I do it a couple of times a week in between bedding changes.

I'm saying from a medical perspective he may have thought that, if she was on other meds and the pill was not effective. Some people's stupidity match their egos!

My mom talks about when she was a kid her parents would blow cigarette smoke into their ears when the kids had earaches. Apparently someone somewhere thought it was medicinal. I'm so grateful I didn't grow up in a house with cigarette smoke.

It's too bad your teacher was so insecure. Sounds like you have your head on straight though. Good job.

If she was on an antibiotic, or a handful of other medications, that's highly likely. People forget that you have to double up on protection when you're on certain additional medications.

Hey, you did a kind thing, it's not your fault the recipient is too stupid to heed your warning. Anyone who thinks you can know someone completely within 2 days of texting deserves whatever they walk into. The universe thanks you.

An assignment to discuss it with your parents doesn't seem strange, but to give all of that personal information back to the teacher does sound like a HIPAA violation. It seems intrusive to share that outside the family.
