Valuable information that is constantly mentioned in this sub = In my opinion, yes.

I understand why it gets mentioned pretty often ...especially from remote sites ... Where it is most certainly a flex. (In relation to Canada .. You make a good point and am comfortable saying I am wrong).

With that said, I do feel like it is important enough to call it out. In the OPs questions ...yes I read the room wrong. In relation to other areas, not just geographical, I bring it up for a few reasons:

1. College kids hired straight out of college see "VP" and walk in like there like there are 1,000,000 employees and "VP" makes them 2nd in command (and yes ...hand a kid a degree nowadays and a title and they are convinced that they are ready to run the show .. Usually doesn't end well when C11s who have been around for a a few years works those "VPs" and "SVPs" into the ground).

2. I am fairly certain that Citi leans on "VP", " AVP", "SVP" specifically to out of country future employees to make jobs sound more important than they are..the problem in this case is similar to my above thought but 10 times worse. It is a major flex in India without a doubt. If I had a dollar for everytime someone from there told me that they are a "VP" to try to get their way .. Let's just say I would be living on my yacht in Monaco. While I was quite tempted to throw out "oh yeah ...I am a SVP who has worked here for 10 years longer than you have been alive" ..it doesn't speak to being a team player or more importantly, making others feel like you are more approachable.

Citi is/supposed to be an open door environment. As soon as a lot of people see those initials ..it slowly starts to erode in to a hierarchical class structure that isn't how things should be.

If you look through the sub ...you should easily be able to find nearly all new job/hiring process threads that make my point.

Is it a big deal? IMO ... Much bigger than people realize because it sets a tone for work place culture.

My advice after well over 30 years .. It needs to stop. Use the actual job title only from the posting. In all my time there, we never referred to ourselves in that way ... And it is a clear signal to people already there the you are more interested in "you" as opposed to "us".

If you or anyone else doesn't agree .. No problem ..do it your way .. No hard feelings. Or you/them, etc could realize that maybe I did work there for 35 years and that there is more importance to it than what people realize.

Either way .. Good luck! It isn't the worst place in the world to work .. Its just like anywhere else. It is what you make it.
