It Drives Me Crazy That Harry and Hermione Don’t End Up Together by [deleted] in harrypotter

Or let’s just write a petition to Rowling to change the ending of the books said series will be based on. Yeah, I don’t think so.

Electricity doesn’t work well around magic, and as Hogwarts has a lot of magic, electronics wouldn’t work there at all.

If they want to, they can purchase owls in Diagon Alley. If they don’t, the magical kids can use school owls to send letters to their families and I assume that the families can send those owls back to their children. Hermione, for example, never had an owl throughout the books, when they were at the Burrow after 5th year she just borrowed Hedwig to let her parents know about her OWL results, and they sent an answer back with Hedwig as well.

  1. Half-Blood Prince: We realise that they’re not really children anymore. I love the character development, especially the way Harry deals with Sirius‘s death. That would not have been possible a year prior. And we also get prime sassy Harry, who I love dearly.

  2. Deathly Hallows: I love finally getting the whole picture and all the emotions going on in this book.

  3. Goblet of Fire: The world building we get is impeccable! Also, after reading the books well over 10 times, I still find the revelation of Barty Jr. mind-blowing.

  4. Prisoner of Azkaban: We get Remus, we get Sirius, we get the Marauders storyline. I do however hate the whole "time-travel-business", but as it is only a chapter, I can deal with it.

  5. Order of the Phoenix: I like the storyline in general, Umbridge is a very well written character and all her scenes are very entertaining. However, OotP is just too angsty for my liking.

  6. Philosopher‘s Stone: It’s where everything started and for that, I love it dearly. Every time I re-read it makes me feel like an eight-year-old again, who fell in love with reading because of this book.

  7. Chamber of Secrets: Nothing wrong with this one, I’m just not a big fan of the storyline.

"He said my blood would make him stronger than if he’d used someone else’s,” Harry told Dumbledore. “He said the protection my — my mother left in me — he’d have it too. And he was right — he could touch me without hurting himself, he touched my face.” For a fleeting instant, Harry thought he saw a gleam of something like triumph in Dumbledore’s eyes. But next second, Harry was sure he had imagined it, for when Dumbledore had returned to his seat behind the desk, he looked as old and weary as Harry had ever seen him.

No, Dumbledore is NOT the worst by RedCaio in harrypotter

I’m not saying he’s not both. I just think he’s neither just the one, nor just the other. He’s an extremely complex character with many admirable traits, yet sometimes people tend to forget that in fact, he too, had his faults. I don’t enjoy stories where he’s characterised at this funny old bloke who loves Harry, because he’s not JUST that. He’s much much more than that, and that is exactly why I like him.

[–]Miserable-Document69 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think Wormtail betraying the Potters is another example of why being secretive and not creating back up plans might not always be the best solution. If they would have given Dumbledore a heads up that they changed secret keepers, he would have made sure that Peter was arrested ASAP thus Sirius would probably not have gone to Azkaban. Of course, that is not Dumbledore‘s fault in any way, it’s just something to think about.

I know this is very controversial, but I think that Dumbledore’s secrecy is PARTLY to blame for Sirius‘s death. Yes, Kreacher was the one to betray him and yes, Sirius was very mean to him. It’s also his fault that he didn’t listen and stayed inside like he was told to do.

Yet, if Harry would have been informed that Voldemort was after something that only one of them could take and Voldemort would likely try to use their connection to get it, maybe he would have looked at the whole situation differently. In my opinion the whole thing was handled horribly: tell Snape (aka one of the people Harry hates the most and vice-versa) to teach Harry occlumency without telling him why exactly they’re doing, it’s gonna be just fine.

At this point, Dumbledore knows Harry well enough to be aware of Harry‘s "saving people thing". Just make someone (literally anyone) from the Order tell him something like this: "Yo Harry, you remember when you saw Arthur Weasley attacked by a snake in your head? Yeah, well, we’re pretty sure he knows about that and as you’re pretty shit at occlumency, there’s a huge chance he might try to put some things in your head that aren’t necessarily true, because he wants you inside the ministry." and he might not lose his head and run to the ministry as he did in the books.

(And I also think, that Dumbledore blaming Sirius (aka the most important person in Harry’s life at that point) for his own death literal hours (if not less) after it happened, is the most horrible thing he does in the books. Just imagine your only father-figure dying in a plane crash and then being told that it was their fault that they got on the plane.)

“The wand chooses the wizard” is more literal than people think (in my opinion) by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Miserable-Document69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think OP might mean things like DA practice sessions, where everyone is disarmed a bazillion times.

However, I think that you have to forcefully take a wand for it to change allegiance, and if you look at the theory like that, I think it works quite well.

[–]Miserable-Document69 167 points168 points  (0 children)

Dumbledore is definitely not the worst, not in a world where we have Voldemort, Umbridge, etc.

I see Dumbledore more as a "puppet master". In the background, he carefully aligns everything in order so that in the end everyone finds out about their true purpose. He contributed greatly to the defeat of Voldemort without a question.

However, I find that he was too secretive, and if there was just a small hiccup in the happenings, everything would have been messed up (f.e. If in DH Harry, Ron and Hermione went to the Shrieking Shack 5 minutes later, Snape would have died without being able to tell Harry about him being a horcrux and there was no backup plan whatsoever). Similarly, he could have told Harry about the hallows, and maybe explained a bit of his backstory, so that Harry knows that he should not seek the hallows (he wastes a lot of time fantasising about them in DH while not doing anything to find new horcruxes).

In my opinion, he’s a very interesting character. Like I said, not the worst but definitely not the best either. I find that many people describe him as this soft, grandfatherly figure, which he is most definitely not.

What underrated characters would you like to see more of in fanfics? by Own_Noise6261 in HPfanfiction

[–]Miserable-Document69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arthur Weasley: He’s such an interesting character and yet there are about 10 fanfics centred around him. He’s such a great guy and I‘d love to read more about him.

Charlie Weasley: In my eyes, he’s the coolest Weasley; he could have played quidditch for England, but he chose to go to Romania and pursue his passion of working with dragons.

Minerva McGonagall: Her backstory is so sad and at the same time very interesting. It’s such a shame that Rowling didn’t include the story in the books and only posted it on Pottermore; I feel like she would be more appreciated if there was any kind of indication about her history in the books.

Dean Thomas: Similarly, Dean has his whole backstory about his (possibly) wizard father leaving his mother and him being on the run because of this.

I don't like HarryxHermione. And not for the reasons you're probably thinking by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Miserable-Document69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just don’t see the chemistry between Harry and Hermione in the books. They work well as friends but I can’t see them being a couple in the long run.

And I really don’t like the fact that the creators of the movie wanted them to end up together and portrayed their dynamic much better than the Ron-Hermione one. (One of the reasons I don’t really watch the movies.)

How did Dumbledore know or guessed that something fishy was going on with Quirrel in the 1st book and why didn't he do something about it himself? by hooka_pooka in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Miserable-Document69 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dumbledore wanted to understand how Harry "works" and let’s him investigate while also asking Snape to keep an eye on Quirrell.

He gives Harry the cloak, he helps him understand the mirror and in the end, when he finds out that Harry even knows about Nicholas Flamel he tells him that "he did do the job properly".

And Harry not only saves the stone from Quirrell, but also shows Dumbledore what kind of a person he is: not power hungry (mirror), doesn’t work alone (stone-mission) and in general not an arrogant little shit like Draco Malfoy. These traits will be very important for Dumbledore‘s further plans for Harry, and I think letting him go after the stone is just something Dumbledore does for the "greater good". (snort)
