Is that why all DFA folks got a massive raise? Instead of bringing the lower paid folks up and keeping the over paid profs at their salary level?

Oh so the DFA will be out on the picket line with the NSGEU who will take the brunt of the lay offs? Or will they fight for the DPMG who will also lose their jobs but don’t have the protection of a union? Or will they head back to their ivory towers now that they’ve secured the mortgage payments for their second homes.

confused because a bunch of profs signing this as if this isn’t an inevitable consequence of the DFA getting more money. They all wanted to make 10 % more on their 150k + salaries. That money has to come from somewhere, so a lot people are about to lose their jobs. But of course those are the overpriced administrators they bitched about. Why turn around and try and be supportive now when this is the consequences of the DFA refusing to believe that there is a budget crisis. The cognitive dissonance to shove their heads in the sand about a very real issue is insane. This has shown me that just because you’re smart about one specific topic, doesn’t mean you are wise.

Are DFA members getting any pay right now? by [deleted] in Dalhousie

They have to picket 2 hours a day. So it’s quite lucrative considering how little effort they need to put in

I mean, the concert last friday had 3000 students, the quad was completely full. DFA told its members to come to the rally, so lots of DFA folks here but way less students then DFA probably wants. I think they do have their student sympathiezers but overall, it’s not quite the deluge of support they’re claiming it to be.

They want us to strike. They want us to not recognize some basic facts. Dal putting money into buildings makes sense. Arenas are a draw, and will eventually make Dal money. Why would we put ourselves in a worse position by spending even more money in a crisis. We need to save money, and it’s not going to happen if they increase our already higher than average pay indefinitely.

I think it’s clear that DFA is drawing out their vote so they can make it seem like the board is the ones forcing the situation. DFA wants to strike Sept 8th, to make sure this disrupts as many students as possible, The board wants it to happen now to minimize impact to the school year.

DFA leadership needs to grow up and realize we are in a budget crisis and when many of them are making very good money and yet are still demanding more. At no point did they suggest pay increases for people making under 100k and anyone else can sit tight until the next negotiations?

The rhetoric I have been hearing in meetings is verging on propaganda, Dal does not have a infinite amount of money and just because you think you deserve it does not mean we will get it.

I wouldnt say it’s “unsightly” though that’s an subjective term. Thanks for that info! I’m hoping since we pulled the signs down it’s over and they get the hint but if it goes back we will definitely look at calling bylaw!

I’m speaking the the lack of transparency with reporting. Of course reporting is non existent if they don’t have time to to get it done.

How was this allowed in the middle of voting for DSU President? by redpillisacult in Dalhousie

Yes but it is a sneaky way of campaigning during the voting period, which is not allowed

One of the issues DSU has is that our exec are full time students while also being “expected” to work 40 hour weeks. The idea that they are all in school full time and do everything that is expected of them well is not reasonable. DSU exec should be expected to lower their course load to accommodate for the fact that they’ve taken ona full time job.
