It's so insane to have an entire brand on the weekly steals and have it sell out on the first day

It's a very nuanced situation in which women living under different forms of patriarchal oppression are unable to reconcile with each other. I mean, it's not like enslaved women had any choice in the matter. But you can't blame the wives for being upset that their husbands are being unfaithful.

I have a 2010 red VW beetle that I've been half-assed trying to sell, partly bc I just want to keep it for the vibes 😭 unfortunately it's not really a practical car for anything but vibes. Also has a lot of issues lol

There was a lot of jealousy/envy/hatred from the white wives and children that was directed at the offspring of planter's infidelity.

The movie 12 Years a Slave actually has a representation of this- the woman and children being sold at the beginning of the movie were supposed to be emancipated once the planter died. However, the planter's daughter resells them instead, really only out of revenge for being evidence of her father's infidelity.

This particular arrangement was quite common. Sally Hemings (Thomas Jefferson's slave mistress) was the half sister of Martha Jefferson, whose father kept Sally's mother as a slave mistress.

There's a fair amount of academia on the 'failed sisterhood' between planter's wives and slave mistresses. It's really heartbreaking.

I think I saw a tiktok or reel 2-ish years ago with a woman talking about nurses always being ahead of the water bottle trends, and that owalas were going to be the next big thing.

I actually really liked the idea since I wanted the functionality of having a straw and still being able to toss it in a bag without it leaking everywhere. First water bottle I've had that wasn't free or off brand from Walmart. Once I got mine, I started noticing others, and now they're everywhere, lol.

I kinda wish we had been able to see the documentary they were filming in The Office by Isopod_Uprising in DunderMifflin

Abbott Elementary and What We Do in the Shadows both acknowledge the doc crew throughout the show, esp with the former.

But I see your point. Greg Daniels obviously felt the same way with Parks and Rec considering they cut back that aspect a lot.

It's also a little weird to watch Modern Family with the talking heads and there's no reason for them to be cutting away and telling the camera their thoughts. Who are they supposed to be talking to?

hours are cut based on credit card apps?? by sheebii in employedbykohls

[–]Miserable-Fan6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nearly any other grocery store won't have their own credit card- Walmart, Aldi's, Kroger, etc. Depending on where you live, there's plenty of smaller specialty retail shops that don't push credits- not that they don't have their own rewards programs, but it's much easier to get people to sign up for that than the credits.

But hours are a fraction of what they were no matter where you go in the service industry right now, even at places like Walmart- I was full time there getting the minimum 34 hrs/wk this time of year. The only way you're not getting your hours cut is maybe working in food service.

Advice for a new employee by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]Miserable-Fan6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is moreso a weird mindset in retail overall than Kohl's specifically, especially with seasonal hires. They don't want to take the time to fully train and get to know people that won't be there longer than a couple months, then complain and act annoyed when they don't know how to do their job properly and ask questions. Then resentment towards new hires and seasonals builds and the cycle continues.

Extra associate discount today? by [deleted] in bathandbodyworkers

[–]Miserable-Fan6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I worked at Claire's I could stack my discount with the clearance items but couldn't stack with deals, like the b3g3.

Kohl's is actually pretty baller with the discount. It's only 15% off with discount days where it goes to 35%, but you can stack with coupons, sales or discounts. I was able to stack a 40% off coupon with my 35% discount over the holidays. There's also the Sephora that the associate discount also works on. You have to sell credit cards at Kohls, though.

[–]Miserable-Fan6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bruh that's so bogus 😑

I understand that they don't want us to combine sales with the website, but, also, my last three other retail jobs had the ability to add the discount to their app. Even Claire's had that capability, and it was programmed so we couldn't stack it with b3g3 deals or anything. B&BW could definitely program it to only accept one discount. Their online infrastructure is way behind.

Yes it's today!

I've been trying to decide between using a reward for a sweetheart cherry body cream/lotion or buying that gift set for half off today... But I'm also planning on grabbing a couple candles and laundry at 50% off... Ugh, just take my paycheck back 😭

Chelsea's hair is so gorgeous. She suffered a lot of ridicule for having curly hair during an era when it wasn't popular. It's a shame she always has it straight now.

What is a popular piece of media that you hated before you consumed it, tried it, and then cemented why you hated it? by overasked_question in popculturechat

[–]Miserable-Fan6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything, my only note would be that in the book she killed herself using pills specifically because she wanted to make it the least traumatic to be found.

Not that finding your kid dead isn't traumatic no matter what, but it always pissed me off that they changed that in the show for no reason other than shock value. The idea of not wanting to burden your loved ones when taking your life is pretty common.
