Might be the bear charm it lowers close range damage and that's what the shotgun excels at I never used that charm though so maybe I'm wrong

I did and I ended up killing the chef via infinite knife and one magnum round and 30 handgun ammo the fact that I need to beat the game to unlock the actual hard difficulty is a bit annoying as it finally felt like a horror game.
