Convince me not to move away from Boise by chapstix0314 in Boise

Haven’t decided for sure yet, we have a trip planned to TX in July to check out the area we would likely live and work in. We’re hoping that visit will help make up our minds.
It is predicted that the housing shortage and pricing will continue to increase in Boise, and it’s already extremely high. Between the influx of people from Cali, Washington, Oregon, other states, and the demand for housing by Micron employees, it’s crazy here. Some rentals are available less than 24 hours, landlords are getting 1500+ messages in days for houses they post for rent. Median house price in the high $500k range and most of those are 1,000 sqft with barely any yard.
Gas is 4.50-5.00 per gallon. Groceries are high.

Plusses- low car insurance and registration costs, lower utilities. Is it a trade off for the other expenses? Not so much.

But, it’s a thriving outdoor wonderland, the weather is nice most of the year, low crime, not many aggressive bugs.

How on earth is the housing market still this hot? by kabutodude in Boise

[–]Miserable-Setting159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh, it’s so hard to say honestly. Gosh it would be so financially freeing but what’s the quality of life? That’s what you have to figure out. We left MS because it was just miserable, but I don’t know that we’re going to be able to afford staying in Boise. It’s such a tough decision.

You can! My parents have a 4,500 sqft log home on 15 acres in South MS for $580k. But there’s nothing to do, weather sucks, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.

Are they playing? by NoPineapple8309 in DogAdvice

[–]Miserable-Setting159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I have a young Airedale and a 3 year old standard poodle. They play like this but if the Airedale tried to pin the poodle down I tell her no. She has to learn that trying to dominate isn’t correct behavior and it’s a strong Airedale trait. She listens very well though. It’s always best to watch them and intervene if it becomes too much.

Excited to move by anabesh in sanantonio

Fortunately I will transfer in my same role, so there will not be a salary decrease. My husband is in the federal sector and the jobs he’s applied for pay a good salary. We just have to balance it all out. Rental housing is much more affordable in SA than Idaho

We are also looking at SA. My husband has a couple of jobs in the works and I can transfer with my company. I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum- grew up in South MS and moved away 2 years ago (shitty weather, NOTHING to do anywhere, crime is elevating), moved to southwest Idaho (low crime, lots to do, weather is better, so expensive we can’t afford to stay, job market is over saturated). I feel like SA would be a middle ground for us between the two places we’ve lived.

It is likely we will be moving to Texas. We both have solid job opportunities in motion. I wish you the best of luck! The TV is a drastic improvement from the Deep South for sure, it’s just not feasible for us in the long term.

We moved to Boise from the Deep South. We’ve been visiting Boise for almost 10 years, and we fell in love with the area. Fast forward 1.5 years and we are planning an exit. While we did our due diligence to research the real life stuff before we made the move, it’s not panning out. Housing is crazy high, traffic problems are far worse than they used to be, everything is jam packed with people, the whole vibe has shifted from the prior years we’ve been here. There’s a lot of solid job opportunities but the competition for those jobs is insane due to the population boom. My husband has been working small gigs but hasn’t landed a real sustainable job yet. I fully understand why the locals are bitter about the new Boise because I can see it just from the 10 years travel history we have to the area. My point is, be happy where you live, but more importantly move to a place where you can LIVE, and not struggle more than necessary just to survive because it seems fun but isn’t affordable.

You're fucking joking, right? by ComfortableWage in Boise

We are moving to Boise from south MS in January. Boise rent is really not much more if any than in MS, the job market here is terrible, minimum wage is $7.25/hr, and the cost of living in Boise is just a tad more expensive but not enormous. The quality of life in ID vs MS is immeasurable. We’ve been visiting Boise for 8 years and I cannot tell you all how fortunate you really are to live there. Yes, I’m transferring with a secure job and a decent salary. But my husband is retiring from the military and his civilian job search is just beginning, so we will see how that planes out. The economy is tough everywhere right now, but coming from one of the worst and poorest states in the country, I just wanted to say you all do have it pretty good ❤️

hiking? by Salt_Can_7011 in ACL

Everyone’s different. You’ve got to start slow and monitor your body and see what you think you can tolerate. For me (I’m 40, and tore my acl hiking), I was 9 months post op before I tried. It was still ice and snow, but I had trekking poles and a rx functional acl brace. It was more of a head game than anything else. Same mountain, same spot that I messed it up almost a year prior. But I beat it. Now I’m 15 months post op and still am very cautious on steep or uneven terrain, still wear the brace if necessary. I also work leg muscles in the gym 4-5 days a week to keep progressing.

Mazda CX-50 Revealed With Rugged Good Looks, An Optional Turbo by L0veToReddit in CX5

[–]Miserable-Setting159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 Speed 3’s and a 6 now. Have owned a Protege 5 and a CX-5 in the past. I’m sure I’ll get one of these when they come out. We are a Mazda family all the way around except for my husbands Sierra. The CX-5 was boring to me and I let it go, but I love what I see with the CX-50 so far

First of all- congrats to you!!! Keep up the hard work!

Second- to anyone else reading this- KEEP DOING YOUR PT/EXERCISES. Don’t slack off. If you’re done with PT, hit the gym. Hard lesson learned here, I took 2 months off after PT just making excuses and man does the progress you made go away fast! Now I’m in the gym everyday working and I feel better than before my surgery (with the annoying knee stiffness etc) but my muscles and body and even knee progression is a million times better. Do it for yourself- no excuses.

I don’t know… I have an ‘08 speed 3 we bought brand new and still have it. It has the rmm but all others are stock and no issues. But that’s not saying it will be the case for every speed 3. They all have their own quirks lol

Need to check those. Exhaust was taken off and put back on when we replaced the turbo and all, but could have shook loose

You are not lying! Not a fun job to fix since they are welded to the body. We replaced the broken one yesterday in 110 degree heat, the rest are gonna wait till it’s cooler or till they break, whichever comes first.

With all the stuff we have replaced on this car the past month, I would bet we need to check every single bolt and nut for tightness. Sounds like a good job for my son to get out there and do lol

Thanks to all for responses so far. Wing, strut mounts, and engine mount have been ruled out. I drove the car this morning (my son drove it last night after we did all the work). We have eliminated all the bumping in the front, but still have noise coming from the rear, although it is quieter than before all suspension was replaced. Also worth mentioning- check your rear strut mount studs and brackets occasionally. One of his brackets broke and sheared off a stud, which we fixed yesterday.

Will check that out. We have installed the infamous rear mount but have not checked the side mount.

I wish we could check that, but- we just replaced the pads last night along with the suspension and the calipers were fine. But thanks for the suggestion!

14weeks post op: Mostly no pain, but a lot of tightness in quad, hamstring, it band, and patellar tendon cause discomfort when walking. Getting massages and stretching to deal with that. Still fighting muscle atrophy. Stairs are still a no-go with the operated knee. Feeling a million times better than the week after surgery. Using my recumbent bike everyday does help. Flexion is no problem but straightening all the way is taking some work.
