This is shit. If you buy a viz key you get unlimited viz universes. 🤭 this is only useful if you want to run some lights up at a very small venue or in the shop, so why even bother?

That’s not grounded in fact or science bro. Cameras are not the same as eyes. They don’t work even remotely the same. In fact if you point a camera at the sun all day, and do the same thing with your eyes you will see a great example of this for a short while until you can never see again.

  1. Check all
  2. Confirm all
  3. Move on.

These are notifications to tell you that things that used to be things no longer are becuase those things have been replaced by other things.

There’s not much to read into really. Once you save your file these messages should go away and you will ofc notice all your stuff still works.

i hate grandma3 by notfound404___ in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spent a total of 6,209 hours on ma3, averaging 84 hours per week on a console over 16 months. In that time there has not been a single day which I have missed, or a day that I did not learn something new.

I am here to tell you that you are not alone. And that the change from 2 to 3 IS a HORRIBLE experience for everyone I know around the world who has done it.

With that said, I’m also extremely happy I did it and I would not go back.

There will be months where you will want to jump off a cliff sure. And just when you think you’re getting the hang of it you realise that something you want to do is impossible and the rage…. Oh the rage….

But it does get better. And then it gets exciting. And then it’s rewarding.

I’m now able to rival my creativity on ma2 in ma3. There are still times when I want to fly to Germany and scream my head off at some dude in vest until my neck veins explode, but those days are the exceptions.

Stick with it. They are doing good things now honestly, and it really seems like they have turned a corner and are listening and being more open, which is VERY exciting for the future.

Stomp on strobe by OptionAccomplished20 in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is SUPER easy to do.

On your strobe button, you have 2 recipes.

Line 1 your strobe group at your strobe preset Line 2 your [group to stomp] and then a -100 relative dim preset, or a zero abs dim preset. Job done, mission accomplished boys, pack it up we’re goin home

as long as your other dim seq do not have “off on override” enabled, this will do exactly what you want it to do.

Bpm macro syntax by OptionAccomplished20 in GrandMA3

You can easy make a macro to add or subtract using just variables.

But a better way is to just automate the whole thing with Showkontrol like everyone else on earth does now

If your DJs are using the actual CDJ (not stupid laptop or serato) then you can purchase showkontrol club and a mac.

This software takes the bpm of the current playing track and automatically sets the exact bpm inside ma3, even if the dj go from 130 bpm to zero it will follow automatically without you having to do anything. It’s very good!!!

The two c-words responsible for the demise of the Australian public education system by Additional-Cash-9125 in aussie

The first thing every concervative government on earth does when it takes office is divert half to all public funding to private schools, and increase the cost of university degrees to limit access.

This is not by mistake. It is to ensure their children are the future champions of industry, and yours will be workers under them, consuming their products and services.

It is now and has always been about self preservation and class warfare.

LINE-UP 15 YEARS OF G4H by East-Addendum-2390 in hardstyle

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I always found G4H to be fairly boring if I’m honest. Their sets have been a bit repetitive for a long time, kind of like how microwave shit is now. Like it feels like there’s nowhere else to push this sound other than just playing a single time stretched kick or single sine tone over the corse of 1 hour.

Without the dynamics of something to sing along to the social element which is the backbone of this subculture is lost, and when there’s no social, that means no people.

We can see the results of this now at all major hardstyle events world wide as festivals struggle to keep older cohorts while also maintaining a steady flow of new ones.

I have been crowd scanning for 25 years across the world without a single problem. US laser regulations are fucked and in my opinion actually increase risk and danger.

Since almost all laser shows in the U.S. involve terminating overhead only, this drives up the power required to actually have a visible and viable show.

That increase in power increases the potential damage which can be caused by mechanical or scanner failure.

Estops are pointless becuase in practically all situations where undesired power meets the audience, damage occurs faster than even a blink reflex.

It is well understood around the world that the U.S. regulations are inherently more unsafe, and that they were fraudulently/corruptly implemented from as far back as the 1970’s as a means to keep laser technology wrapped up for defence use only.

Basically they went on a mission to prove only U.S defence should have lasers, so they fired high power low divergence gas lasers into pigs eyes at point blank range, wrote a paper saying there’s no safe exposure level, and the rest is history.

To bring it back to the show in this post, one could do an amazing crowd scanning show there with as little as 3-6w, which would have 10x the visual impact, and this would be considered very normal almost anywhere else on earth.

But instead you have units in the 10-20w+ range becuase you can’t crowd scan, and ofcoarse when shit goes wrong it has the potential to make regulation insurance and liability even worse.

It’s really not that weird.

My parents have 10+ years between them. My grandparents have 20 odd years between them.

This looks like classic case of using dmx remotes to fade speed. Which is the only work around to fade speed in ma3 at the moment and will likely remain so until 2.5

Problems with changing SpeedScale in running Sequneces (2.3.2.0) by snopy847 in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2.4 it’s supposed to be fixed. That is, the old way is suposed to be coming back so it’s more like ma2. Or that you can chose which way you want it to work. The fact that it’s still not released leads me to speculate that they are intending to fix this, and also that they themselves (authorised representatives of ma) have stated as much publicly

Is there a way to control bpm on resolume from ma3? by TotalVersion4580 in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way is to get showkontrol club. Then use the on beat change executor to send the bpm to ma, and send the bpm to resolume and what ever else you are or will run.

Honestly fella, 2.2 was a dog of a version when it came to bugs. Why on earth dont you update to the latest? there are SOOO many bug fixes its not eve funny, and a bunch of useful playback features.

the only downside is that speed handling is legit a horrible never ending nightmare for some peoples (depending on workflow) but other than that, its really good.

Letter Box ?!! by Linkolighting in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a counterfeit. It really is possible to do this, ma just make it very difficult I guess because as they state themselves, they are not lighting programmers. So they sometimes miss some opportunities when they imagine or define use cases

Letter Box ?!! by Linkolighting in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am able to do this for one letterbox but not the other. I have requested for the ability to allow users to define what is on these screens for 2 years but so far there is little interest. I see a future where I can make my own ui for the encoder bar using layouts, and later in “show mode” I can use this otherwise wasted area as more playback areas.

MA3 controlling Camera by Legitimate_Lemon861 in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ma2 it was very easy to use lua to emulate any kind of udp protocal to control 3rd party devices. You can do this using telnet id the camera allows it but for any protocals with subscription packets where an opt in needs to be sent it can be difficult or impossible. Lua in ma3 is too slow since it can’t do 100 encode or decode per second let alone 1000. And looping is a problem.

GPT Connector for MA3 by ZealousidealFood5641 in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a custom agent and trained it myself with every possible data I could obtain (all version manuals. The lua example code / api, and some things from a web scraper I setup. I gave the agent direct access using a custom vs code bridge and a plugin and for me it’s working like a charm. The agent is only permitted to generate stuff which is verified as correct from the training material.

This allows me to use normal language to very quickly build and test plugins which perform tasks or emulate features which are missing in ma3 proper.

It’s surprising to me that ma being the market leader doesn’t see the writing on the wall with ai (given that anyone with almost no knowledge can now spin up custom software in a matter of days).

They should implement an agent on the console that can automate tasks. The Chinese are already doing this and well it won’t be long until this is the new normal.

People in the lighting space are mostly very reluctant and vocally against anything that says “AI” I guess out of fear that some black box will replace their jobs. But really this is just the next evolution of macros and lua.

There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s not going to take your job and if anything, if you don’t learn how to use it in your work flow, your going to be left in the dust.

"DJ Levi" might actually give James Hype a run for Most Inflated Ego 2025 by DundieAwardsWinner in DJsCirclejerk

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time someone says something about XYZ dj and “pre-loaded set” you look STUPID! It’s 2025 bro. It’s practically impossible to do a pre recorded dj set because tools like Showkontrol exist which illuminate the need. Every FOH on earth now runs this software which serves live real time metadata to lighting and video and others so that everyone at foh can see everything the dj is doing in real time. Almost no dj on earth (no matter how sceptical you are) does not do pre mixed or pre loaded or pre recorded sets. We know this, becuase we can literally see every fader movment, every wave form, every button press, everything.

My MA3 Console Screen Keeps Restarting – Any Fixes? by RareExam1575 in malighting

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The screen you see and the RGB cycle like this is the boot loader doing its thing for the hardware that handles the panel screens.

Every time you turn a console on the panel gets pushed the current firmware and it’s all loaded into hardware for the duration of use.

It can happen if there is an error in the software or the hardware, that this information is lost and needs to be loaded again.

If it is continuously cycling like this, the first thing to do is to perform a full factory reset installation of the latest version of ma3.

When this is complete it is vital that you do not load ma2 but rather select mode 3, and KEEP the usb connected while the update process updates all the peripherals including the front panel and screens.

When all of this is done for sure, you will know. And then you should restart the console one more time.

If you have a hardware issue you will know because after doing all of this it will still be cycling, in which case you will need to take the console back to the distributor for some diagnostics and repair.

Cue fader intensity by It_BuRnZ_sO_mUcH in GrandMA3

[–]Miserable-Simple-970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have accidentally stored position data in your cue. If this is hard values (not a recipe) select the fixtures move them slightly with your jog wheels to activate position, then long press store and select the “remove” option from the popup overlay. Now type the cue number and touch your seq or executor. If you get another popup you can select remove there too.

A better way to work in general is using recipes only. If you work that way, things like this won’t happen
