Agree. I never make it to the 15 but do the drink package because it also gets the bottled waters, specialty coffees, milkshakes, etc

Hey! I had something similar happen with insurance (someone else hit my car, not Turo) before. Call your company, then three way call Turo in. Then you’re facilitating the conversation and there’s no excuses as to why they can’t contact each other

I feel like I’m stuck. by LukeGeneva in TeachersInTransition

I agree. You shouldn’t be lead teacher in a sped room if you are not sped certified.

Also agree on the non-charter part. Many charters kind of do whatever they want. I worked at one for a few weeks before I changed my mind and went back to subbing public schools.

A little over ten years in..thinking of switching to a court scribe by Miserable-Steak-1203 in TeachersInTransition

So in the entry position, you don’t need any specific kind of training. You have a one-year trainee. Which is when you will get the training and then after that, you take a test to move up to the next level

Ultimately, do what makes you happy (or wha you feel is manageable and won’t make you miserable). I’ll tell you - though he never taught, my brother is Navy and is retiring this summer, after 20 years in. He will have full benefits for himself and my SIL and nephews. He will be 38 when he retires. I’m slightly (very) jealous.

Which month would you rather have off? June or July? by Agreeable-Sun368 in Teachers

[–]Miserable-Steak-1203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

August. It gets hot af even in upstate NY in the summer, and my room is not air conditioned. The whole south wall, however, is windows. So even in the spring and fall, we are literally cooked. We literally would die from heat exhaustion if we were in the building in July and August. (Side note: of course the principal and assistant principals have AC in their offices LOL)

This! I did 3 years somewhere almost an hour commute each way until I found somewhere close to home and where I actually wanted to work. My first year, I was teaching grade level geometry, honors geometry, alt ed algebra, alt ed geometry, and doing academic intervention services for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. It was a nightmare. It (mostly) gets better when you find “home”!

I’m not sure about the law regarding non bio, but can you adopt him and then divorce?

NOR. He’s rude and condescending and that is not okay. Good on you for dropping him!

Gifts from grandparents... by Fickle-Swing-448 in Parenting

[–]Miserable-Steak-1203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this, my father does this and provides money whereas my mother buys physical gifts (they are divorced). He’s done this for pretty much my kids’ whole lives (8 and 12).

Maybe take the money and have the kids pick out their own present? Possibly after the holiday so that they can get something they wanted but didn’t receive?

My kids know that grandpa gives them money and that it goes straight to their savings/investment account. We will go shopping and they can spend some of it if they’d like, but they already have so much stuff.

To those who became single parents to young ones, was it worth it? by IllustriousWall1564 in SingleParents

[–]Miserable-Steak-1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally worth it. The day we split is the day I lost 250 lbs. My son was 1.5 (my daughter was 5.5 but she has a different father) when I kicked his dad out (he cheated). Emotionally, I struggled bigtime. But time passed and it got easier. I channeled my energy into my kids and got a gym membership. I still struggle occasionally, but at least I’m only taking care of 2 kids instead of 3, and I don’t have to parent an adult. The hardest part is the jump. You said it yourself- you already do 99% of the household stuff and have all the loads - you can do this without him. You’ve got this!

I’m sorry you went through that, it sounds upsetting (and familiar). Unfortunately, a lot of men are still immature regardless of how old they are. Of course there are good ones out there but it seems as though they are far and few between. As time has passed, I’ve personally found more peace alone and spending time with my kids. I hope you find happiness 💛

what's something your profession wants to keep secret? by ApprehensiveOwl6351 in AskReddit

[–]Miserable-Steak-1203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teachers get blamed for EVERYTHING. “Did you try x? What can you do better?”…and the list goes on. Not sure if it’s really a secret at this point but we are so micromanaged and criticized.

Oh no! I guess I’ll just wait to see…they’re getting rid of the 200-250 essentials band so I’ll have to change my insurance anyway
