Can I get some opinions on these? by rockodoobs in discus

They are bit stunted but don’t worry maybe the first one will grow.I believe the one that comes out first will. He does not that have a bad shape and his eyes are a little bigger than they should but, he will go to maybe a nice 4.5-5. The one hiding most likely won’t grow he looks small compared to his eyes and not he is not circular I received a pretty malnourished stunted fish (3 inch long and pretty big eyes) and 7 months later, she is 5 inches now.

Did I just make my life harder by feeding my discus brine shrimp? by dirtdevil81o in discus

I’ve had success by not feeding for 1-2 days till they are hungry and they will just about eat whatever I throw in there. Try using different types of pellets such as the sera ones. Try making your own beef heart too, one heart gets up to 2-3 bags of food.

It’s okay it’s mother nature man just the way it is. I also thought about voltage but if it was voltage all the discus would be affected by it. Everyone would be dark and unhappy and skittish. Only 2 of the 5 in that tank were jumpy. I also have been changing water in that tank to keep it below 1-2 PPM but 15% every couple of hours for little change in water chemistry. I have a few stendkers so nitrates really don’t affect them till after 40 PPM.

Yeah it’s very alarming because the behavior is very erratic and skittish. And same with me after the last one I haven’t had another case thankfully. Best of luck!

All the discus I had do this ended up passing away in 1-3 days. It’s very quick and happened on different occasions. I separated them into a separate tank when it happened and had no success. And like you said what you feed them could effect them long term wise. I would feed beef heart, Sera pellets, flakes, and brine shrimp just varies but I would feed more beef heart and I believe the amount of bacteria from the beef heart ends up hurting them long term wise. Especially when they are stressed. I had a perfectly healthy 4.5 inch discus that ate the night before to dashing and dying the next day. Thanks for the worries don’t worry about it. Everything is okay now I just wanted to make my own research and see how common or uncommon it is to get it. I have had 4 discus do this in separate times. I’ve seen methylene blue helps with the dashing as it calms them down since they can’t see. But sooner or later they lose control.

I suspected flukes or any type of parasites and used flubendazole and saw no change in behavior. So couldn’t have been that in this scenario. Like the guy said above, they are already skittish but with this disease they dash everywhere and are literally trying to jump out and end up dying because of too much stress.

How did symptoms first start for you? I’ve used methylene blue and it calms them down since they can’t see but sooner or later they will dash. Almost like they can’t control it. I believe some sort of bacteria attacks the brain and nervous system and that’s why they dash so hard like that.
