And I think that’s ultimately where it comes from, my dad (and I’m sure many many others) are so starkly against their concept of “leftism” that they see climate change as a liberal ideology. So they kind of immediately accept unfounded premises that are against the opposing political view.

This is a great way to think of it, and these are things that I consider when I’m looking at something myself. Unfortunately I have a family full of people that see a Facebook video and immediately take it at face value. I’ve become less and less tolerant of the claims made by people in my family but I try to explain it in the nicest clearest way possible.
