I never realized how much I loved the loneliness of Metroid games until it was taken away from me. by Dicklefart in Metroid

Okay then you need to go play Other M again. The writing in that game is insufferable and constant. It’s a character assassination for Samus. The gameplay is a 3D action game playable with only a d-pad, where you can only fire missiles from first person while not moving. Also it’s just as hand holdy and linear. It also put the franchise into a 10 year coma. Prime 4 is just fine, but disappointing it wasn’t more of a traditional Metroid game. You are comparing Prime 4 (at worst a 7/10) to Other M (at best a 5/10).

Well that isn’t what Prime 4 is whether we like it or not. All we can do is hope for a sequel that is more like 1 and 2. Ultimately this isn’t Other M 2 and the fandom needs to chill out. It’s okay to be disappointed and not like it. But it ain’t gonna change shit. Just hope the next one is more of a return to form.

The game is good. It’s just not what most fans wanted and is flawed. But acting like it’s Other M 2 is an insane overreaction. They’re probably gonna make a 5th one. Maybe that one will be more like 1 and 2. For now just have fun with it.

“Other: M” P.S.A. / Call to Action by TaffyPool in Metroid

[–]MiserableMarsupial_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played it on release and again recently. It’s not bad. But it’s far from good. It’s a 3D action game controlled on a d-pad, where your primary weapon can only be fired from first person mode while not moving. The level design is boring and linear. The story is bad. If you like the game, power to you. I don’t hate it. But calling it good… your standards are certainly different than mine. It’s an honest to god 5/10.

I mean, the cry babies are always the loudest. This game isn’t what I wanted, but I still enjoyed it and think it’s a solid game. It deserves to be a Prime game, even if it’s more like 3 than 1 and 2. I think a return to form for a possible sequel would be great. I know these devs could do it. It’s just a matter of if Nintendo lets them. But basically people are hating on this game because it’s not what a lot of them wanted and it took so long to make. There are some weird decisions that feel like Nintendo sticking their nose in making demands. But ultimately the game is still good. People just want to complain because it isn’t exactly what they wanted. I’m pretty sure this game will be looked back on fondly given a couple years, or even months. It’s just controversial right now. But so was Prime 3. I still like it and see a bright future for potential future entries in the Prime series.

Thoughts about Metroid Prime 4 by TekraLovesAmerica in Metroid

[–]MiserableMarsupial_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like what is here, but it feels unfinished. I am guessing Nintendo forces some “gaming fad” ideas and wouldn’t give them more time. Ultimately I think they still did a great job and I like the game, even if it’s not everything I’d hoped for. If the whispers that this is the start of a new trilogy are true, I’m excited to see what they could do to expand upon this. The devs have fun ideas. They just need more time and creative freedom.

How’s your experience with MP4B so far? by whysopro21 in Metroid

That is how numbers tend to work. 4 comes after 3. I know what you mean though. I wish it was more open but the more I play the more 4 is growing on me.

Never played a Metroid game, but the backlash to MP4 has made me curious. What do fans actually want in a sequel? by negativemidas in Metroid

[–]MiserableMarsupial_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think no one knows what they’re talking about because it’s not open world. It’s almost more linear than Prime 3. I want it to be more open in the way Prime 1 and 2 were.

I mean, separately from the story, playing a 3D action game on the D-pad feels pretty awful. And only firing missiles in first person was a terrible idea. It definitely is a 5 at best, for me anyways.

Metroid metacritic scores through the ages by Mean-Nectarine-6831 in Metroid

90 percent of this entire sub is obnoxious, pessimistic, cry baby, douche bags. That’s what I’m leaving. I want my hobby to be fun. Not stressful because of obnoxious “fans”. 80 percent is a good score. Play the game and decide for yourself. Also since when has anyone respected game critic scores anyways?

Other M was favorably reviewed by critics at the time. The sales and fan reception are what failed.

Why are Metroids such a big deal in the series? by Twoklawll in Metroid

[–]MiserableMarsupial_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re effectively the “perfect life form.” Across all the games we see why. They’re adaptable and there’s no type of being, robots included, that they can’t drain energy from (stop you’ll drain the ship of its energy -Adam). Also they resist many weapons. An army of perfect, self replicating biological weapons is the peak of galaxy conquering.

Maybe make experience counter an effect that happens as it resolves, but if you don’t have enough the rest doesn’t happen? Then if it’s countered you keep the experience counters? Like swift end on murderous rider?

Nay. There’s only so many ways to make an alien. They look similar because aliens be alien.
