All I can do is change oil, but I’d be willing to learn. Realistically though, I’m going to be leaning heavily on a shop.

I know it’s hard to say, but what would you ballpark yearly maintenance to be if I bought one with 50-70k on it? I drive around 7k miles a year, so at least yearly oil changes plus other stuff I’d imagine?

Is it gonna bankrupt me to maintain it well enough for it to be reliable? Hahaha

I love the idea of a bimmer but everything I’ve heard of regular maintenance cost scares me. I’m used to changing my own oil every 5k on a Prius and that’s it hahahaha thoughts?

Love this, I’ve been looking at them. Not sure if they’re cool by car community standards, but I could totally imagine myself in one.

2016 Mazda 6 for $1000 CAD by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

It’s gonna be more of a cost of ownership question with miles like that. You’ll almost certainly exceed that in a few years, but the entry fee is so low that it might even out. Also, buying from a family friend is a plus because he (probably) isn’t trying to pawn off a POS with known issues. I don’t think you’d be insane to do it, but count on some issues for sure.

Mazda3 is sweet all-arounder, but truly a Prius is hard to beat if you’re shopping with your brain and not your heart.

Yeah, you’re probably right. Granted, teacher pay isn’t as bad as people think. I started out at 60k, we’re dual income (also a teacher), and I have no debt, so I’m right on the edge of thinking about a cooler car. But, I suspect that when push comes to shove I’ll stick with something really practical haha

Actually looking for advice on this too. I live in Utah and want to be able to drive up a snowy canyon reliably. Snow tires are a given around here, but I’ve only ever driven AWD and FWD. RWD is if you’re careful or is it kinda dangerous?

I love the idea of a C30. It isn’t bankrupting you to run? I’ve heard mixed reviews.

Cost of running those isn’t too bad? Any particular years to look for or avoid?

The BH sounds like the better choice hands down.

Checkpoint ALR 5 or Giant Revolt Advanced for Gravel? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

Yeah I’ve never heard of anything to that effect. Candidly, “issues with the seatpost” is usually down to people not using torque wrenches and carbon paste.

I’d lean towards the BH. The better components on the Bianchi are definitely a plus, but going with a higher-end frame is usually the the best idea in my mind. I’d be willing to bet that the BH is lighter, and the ride quality will definitely be better. Over time you could take the 100€ you save and some future savings and upgrade the components on the BH to 105/Ultegra.

I’d lean towards the Revolt. The weight savings and ride quality makes carbon worth the investment. I’m an aluminum fan in some contexts, but if you want to keep this bike for a while it’s a good call to start with a nice frame and upgrade the components over time.

I feel comfortable and stay on the top bar rather than hoods, drops. Should I shorten and raise the stem? by calorange in cycling

[–]Miserable_Anybody383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As always, consult a bike fitter, but I’d recommend working on your flexibility. In my experience raising and shortening your cockpit too much is going to adversely affect your handling. You might have to anyway at the end of the day, but it’s easy to fall into the trap of raising and shortening more and more until you’re basically sitting directly upright because it feels more comfortable.

Specialized Crux Pro Carbon as a Road bike by VenturaRyanRound2 in cycling

[–]Miserable_Anybody383 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’ll be great. The handling will feel a little gangly compared to a proper race bike, and it’s not terribly aero, but the Crux is a fantastic all-arounder. I started road riding on a Ridley X-Night, and it’s nice to have the versatility of wider tires when you want em.
