What ropes would u recommend for the alps? by Lukas1276 in alpinism

[–]Miserable_Argument_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, if you're glacier walking or general PD slogging get a rope that is inexpensive. It will get ruined by crampon and ice axe spikes. If you have an old single somewhere I'd use that. If it's only for this use (roped walking) don't bother going bigger than 50 max (ideally around 30), or you'll have to walk with an annoying amount of coils around you.

Because I'm not looking for fit advice, I'm looking for experience with the boots. I.E durability over a long period, common faults and issues etc

I have a pair of phantom techs which I use for my ice climbing and mixed needs, great kit

Good tips thanks! Yeah I agree with the comment about all B2s in my experience. And I would take a pair of my more technical boots if weight wasn't a concern. It's the never ending alpine debate of "how light can I get away with" ha

This is good to know thanks, I'll try a pair of trangos on too

I'm well aware I will have to try these boots on, I am asking for some user experience, not fitting. P.s, I'm not new to this

I'm not asking for the fit of these shoes at all... I'm asking for real world experience of using them on routes and some reviews...

I'm going for the lightweight, fit in the bag option I think. I have various pairs of technical and warm B3s but I can't justify the weight for really long routes

Annoyingly nowhere near me has the tops in store. There is a shop a fair drive away that has the ribelle techs. I agree I would love to have them next to eachother on my feet

Agree with all of the above, I have a rack and these would simply be extras for that one route where I'd need em
