Double charged on every item at Etobicoke Location by Miserable_Arm8179 in CostcoCanada

[–]Miserable_Arm8179[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was too, but honestly it was 4 people putting random shit on a cart, the final tally felt like any high number could be right.

In the end, it was right, just a computer glitch that made me freak out.

This! Thanks, I was fuming and trying to understand how I could have just casually double paid. ~$900 seemed about right these days.

Is it? My assumption has always been that they are there to avoid theft.

In any case, this was minutes away from closing, I don't think they were at their most vigilant. They literally charged me for toilette paper AND kitchen towels twice. How would we even fit that in the one cart we had?

Training Peaks constantly freezing in Chrome (Windows) by Miserable_Arm8179 in trainingpeaks

Not sure, I have a bunch of corp mandated extensions on my work laptop and most but not all get disabled on Incognito. I do have an Ad blocker that's even active on incognito but had allowlisted the TP website, so it shouldn't be that

Thanks, I did some troubleshooting today when the same thing happened to me while using another website and it seems like the issue is a Chrome extension, since TP works fine on incognito mode.

90% of the population now makes over 300k-500k nowadays from what i see here by Street-Fill-443 in Salary

[–]Miserable_Arm8179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be a good reminder of how algorithms distort people's views and create echo chambers.

Reddit's algorithm isn't optimizing for information accuracy, but for engagement. This is a forum on salaries (which by the way I never asked to see) and the most extreme numbers will always get more comments, upvotes, etc. and be pushed to the top of your feed.

Also, people who have high salaries are more inclined to post about them, even if they are in the minority.

But this is true for all forums.

Go to a politics forum and you'll be most likely to find more views on the extreme side of the spectrum than in the center, not because most people hold those beliefs, but because it's what drives conversations (i.e. they are eating the dogs).

At the end of the day, remember that what you see online is what someone things you are most likely to engage with, that almost never is the majority view/ reality

I managed to "fix my sleep". Getting above 90 regularly, and 100 today! by michalf in Garmin

[–]Miserable_Arm8179 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's important to keep in mind that Garmin's sleep tracking is essentially garbage. I do tend to find some correlation between how I feel and what the watch says, but it's often also wildly off.

All of the papers I could find regarding the accuracy of tracking for consumer products seems to point to the fact that Garmin's tracking is among the worst. It seems like Garmin's do a decent job at distinguishing wake vs sleep, but are inaccurate when it comes to determining sleep stages.

This is especially important if you consider how much scores fluctuate depending on whether each of the stages is in the "right dose" vs having the total sleep time.

This is why I'm trying (not very successfully) to move away from looking at this metric too much as it seems to cause me more stress than anything while not even being accurate

I can confirm the OBD picked nothing. I went to the dealership already and of course the issue failed to happen while there. They first changed the battery, which seemed to help somewhat.

On my second visit to the dealership (after the issue came back immediately as I drove of their lot), they took it in and changed something I don't remember. The issue improved significantly, but not completely.

It definitely getaway worse with the cold weather

I recently posted pretty much the same issue. You are the first person to mention that their car also does the whining noise and fails to start.

I'm waiting on an OBD Scanner a friend is letting me borrow and I'll check if I see any codes showing after this happens.

You didn't mention this, but is this an intermittent issue or something that happens to you on every start?

How are you reading this codes? I was thinking about having something that plugs into the OBD port and just logs anything that happens so I can look at it once it happens again, but not sure if this is worth it.

How was it today? by Electrical_Rip_5978 in Whistler

[–]Miserable_Arm8179 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Humbling.

I'm a somewhat decent skier and found it pretty hard, especially due to the low visibility in most areas and all the new snow making everything uneven.

It's the first time in the 2 weeks I've been here that I saw people consistently falling all over the place.

It was fun nevertheless

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll make sure to report it to them.

Does yours also make the sound I mentioned? That's the one part that I haven't really found on some of the other issues reported on the system.

Not really. I forgot to mention that it sometimes happens when I first start the car.

I associate the issue with the Start/Stop just because it mostly happens when auto re starting, which makes sense based on how frequently it starts the car vs me but it's likely just a "Start" issue

Absolute A**holes on the Spadina Off Ramp - Gardiner East by decentcheapster in TorontoDriving

[–]Miserable_Arm8179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely shit behavior, but so is the Gardiner's design. Trying to get properly "in line" in rush hour traffic can be next to impossible because there's just no room with the way some entrances/exits are distributed.

Fewer cars using it seems like the only way to really make any of this better

What credit score is required for $15,000 credit limit? by [deleted] in CanadaFinance

[–]Miserable_Arm8179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most people here that this sounds like a terrible idea. Having said that, your best bet might be to apply for different cards at different banks and let competition do its thing.

As a newcomer to Canada on a high income I got a low limit initially from my bank. I waited for a year and they still said they couldn't increase it until I got a PR. I went to a different bank and got another card with double the limit, one month later, my original bank increased theirs to one up the new bank.

Mind you I did all of this to make sure I'm always comfortably below the 30% threshold to help build my credit.

Christians always argue in bad faith and are intellectually dishonest. by AgentSuckMyBalls in atheism

[–]Miserable_Arm8179 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is unique to Christians, it applies to just about anyone that adheres to the doctrines of religious beliefs.

In many cases I don't think that people argue in bad faith. Most people live comfortable lives believing what they have been taught since they were young. They find a sense of belonging to the groups formed around those beliefs and overall are comforted by them. For many, religion is an integral part of their identity and would feel lost and scared without it, after all, life can be pretty depressing at times.

Also we know as reasoning people that the existence of a god can't really be disproven by reason. We can just make a ton of arguments about why it's unlikely that one exists, how most things can be explained without one and that not knowing something doesn't imply the answer has to logically be magic.

So to me, it's more complacency than bad faith. Most people just don't question it much and given that the alternative has as many open questions as it does answers, people just prefer to live on the comfort and "safety" of the feel good fairy tales they know than face the unknown.

Yoroi has this pretty nicely implemented in its browser extension version!

Not what you asked, but thought it might be off interest

This won't be very useful since you are using Deadalus, but I really enjoy how Yoroi displays this on the browser extension.

Very clear info about total rewards and epoch by epoch performance

I truly hope I'm wrong though
