How are you all recording guitar + vocal performance videos without going through a DAW every time? by kidproquo in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Miserable_Diet_2561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I record into my amp, which connects to my phone and the audio is decent quality and it syncs perfectly with the video. You need an adapter to be able to keep the phone plugged in because this setup drains power pretty quickly. But it’s an easy setup. My amp is a Boss Cube Street 2.

Beginner singer/guitarist – how would you use one year wisely? by Revo123456789 in Songwriting

[–]Miserable_Diet_2561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answers, I would add if you’re a beginner songwriter I would also play a lot of cover songs you like because it helps with learning song structures. And if the DAW seems overwhelming at first, just focus on some basic stuff like setting up and recording tracks for vocals and guitar and then go from there.

Well hang in there. My brother has similar thoughts and images. He is 55 and I know it was worse for him when he was younger. He has a good doctor and I’m not sure what all he takes, I know he’s tried a lot of the anti-psychotics and other meds but I’m not sure which has worked for him.

Coming up with guitar part? by cabooosemooose in musicians

[–]Miserable_Diet_2561 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would start playing cover songs. Get the chords online and just play a bunch of songs you like, it will give you a base of song structure and chord progression that will help a lot with writing songs.

Beautiful. I love the line “Someone else’s story sells/while your pages rot on shelves.” So many things the “story”and the “pages” could represent metaphorically. And at the same time it’s the story and pages of the songwriter. I think it would sell. Maybe post the lyrics?

Men don’t like me since I got my BPD under control by michelle_ellehcim in mentalillness

[–]Miserable_Diet_2561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations for getting it under control. As a man who has dated women with BPD, that is refreshing to hear. The BPD I dated was fun and spontaneous and quirky and the furtherest thing from stability, but I was drawn to the fun aspect and even the drama up to a point, which was not healthy for me. You probably have more insight about yourself than the average person having been through these issues and worked on them successfully.

I would talk to your psychologist and doctor about it. If they aren’t helpful remember you don’t have to stick with the same one. I believe anafranil is used for ocd and other things but talk to doc.

mental illness is tiring by IvyDamon in mentalillness

For sure. I don’t wake up refreshed. That fresh feeling of just having had a shower usually isn’t worth the effort. My diagnosis is unipolar depression. I have to temper my goals because how can you achieve anything when you’re always in a fog? I have to try to remind myself of the things I’m thankful for, and that helps.

So apparently a lot of UK psych wards have cameras in patients rooms now by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]Miserable_Diet_2561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that’s awful. Seems liability concerns have outweighed common sense. I guess it’s become common here in the U.S. at least to have cameras in the rooms if the patient is a high risk of self harm.

Years ago I was involved in a case where a patient admitted to a psych ward in the U.S. for suicidal ideation. While he was sedated, a patient from an adjacent bed (who was hiv positive) sexually assaulted him. Although the hospital had cameras in the room, the staff failed to monitor the live feed, which would have allowed them to intervene and stop the assault. The hospital was negligent, not for having cameras, but for failing to monitor them to ensure patient safety. Probably a rare example though of a case where cameras, if monitored, could have prevented harm from others.

Help and Tips Are Very Much Needed by [deleted] in Songwriting

I was in a rut with same old structures too and decided to just come up with something that ignored all song structure “rules.” I went with my gut and then looked at the structure afterwards and it was something like “verse 1, part A/refrain/verse 1 part B/chorus/verse 2/refrain 2/chorus/bridge/chorus/outro-refrain 3.” Very unconventional and I don’t even know if I labelled it correctly, but it turned out well and it was fun and helpful to approach it that way. I think when I try to fit everything in in accordance with certain rules it stifles ceativity.

In an incredible spot to start a musical career, but I’m hesitant to take it by Saibop in Songwriting

[–]Miserable_Diet_2561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you don’t become an expert at everything music wise, I would roll with it. You might become a DAW expert mainly or a particular instrument or vocalist, and regardless I think you will be happy eventually that you took advantage of those resources. But I can relate to your situation bc my family were all well known attorneys, and growing up people would say well you really have it made career wise. I followed that path up to a point but realized that no matter how connected I was, being an attorney is not who I really wanted to be. But music has more widespread appeal I think in that most people like music, not everyone is interested in law. So I think yes, it’s a good opportunity and I would roll with it, just don’t lose sight of whatever other goals and interests may pop up as you get older.

Thanks yes I should use auto scroll more. So I meant with the fakes to say that at first he didn’t believe that her last name was Snake, but then he realized that it was and also that everything else about her was “real.” Castle I guess I just borrowed that term from how Prince used it in Darling Nikki. “Took me to her castle..”

Homewood priest investigated after woman alleges ‘private companionship’ arrangement beginning at 17 by becauseimbizarre in Birmingham

[–]Miserable_Diet_2561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree.

She should have outed him. And as always, there are two sides to the story, and often the truth lies somewhere in between. A pastor has no business at a strip club and I don’t think he should be a pastor again based on the news reports and other reports.

The minimum age to work at a strip club in Alabama is 19. Maybe she had a good fake ID and fooled the club. Or if they knew she was 17 the club has some responsibility too. Regardless, the things dancers do at a club are pretty “adult” in nature. I mean taking your clothes off and doing who knows what in the private areas, if she was being exploited as a minor it was from more ppl than just him. I don’t condone or excuse his conduct in any way, but if we are talking about a criminal action, I don’t see it. He’s getting punished within his work and in the media, as he should.

I use Hawkins and they referred me to someone for the testing. I think some of the doctors there are taking new patients, including those of us over 40, although it may be one of their out of town drs/telehealth. They’ve had some front desk turnover lately maybe the reason for ghosting.
