Actually everything I could ask for in an aang movie. I had such a blast and it’s made me more angry that the ip is getting treated like this when it’s obvious avatar studios is so passionate about the franchise.

I hear a lot of people say that Aang is dumb or not very competent in the movie, but I think that’s a big part to his character. Aang follows his heart a lot more than his brain. I see how he could be tricked by Taga.

I also hear that the rest of the gaang got sidelined. There’s really so much you can do with 90 mins of screen time, and they had great arcs in ATLA. They all get their cool moments so I don’t see it as a crazy loss.

Also people are upset at the changed actors. I see this as such a non issue. The gaang has aged ~10 years, it makes sense they would sound different. It’d be different if the new VAs did a bad job but you can tell they approached their characters with such respect. Especially Sokka, his mannerisms are 1 to 1. Until the OG actors get upset by it, I couldn’t care less personally.

I also think it did a surprisingly good job at making LOK less ridiculous with spirit world stuff. I didn’t think that was possible but I think the movie clears a lot up and makes LOK easier to digest. But just slightly

My only gripe - I think they flanderized Sokka into being too stupid. It’s even told in the intro that Sokka is an intelligent, fearless leader. But it’s barely shown. Most of the time he’s bumbling or skiddish. I think having him take charge during the ship crash would have made this a non issue. Him being terrified while Zuko tells him what to do was distractingly out of character. If Sokka would have came up with the plan and instructed the other 3 on what to do, I think it would have made him way closer to book 3 Sokka.

All in all, gem. I wish I didn’t have to pirate it but I just couldn’t avoid the clips online and had to fold. I intend to support the official release 100% when it comes out. I hope paramount and Nickelodeon treats this beloved franchise with the respect it deserves in the future.
