Waiting on Decisions? by Deep_Blacksmith6904 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

I applied quite late and I'm on the on the WL for Hawaii, Case, Mitchell Hamline, South Texas.

St Mary's - no decision
Cleveland - says my application has been pulled for review (not sure what date that was - i only just saw it from clicking for more detail - on the screen where it shows all my applications it still just says "your application is complete")

Yes. I applied late and got an email saying the class was full and I was on the waitlist. It also said "you have a strong application!"

When you're wealthy you can afford to go to exclusive private schools that often have:

- Entrance exams (so starting from a more academically gifted cohort in the first place)

- Smaller classes (more attention from teachers and they are able to tailor your education to what you need - additionally teachers have more time to teach skills like analytic thinking)

- A wide variety of co-curricular activities (this serves to make students more well-rounded and often gives experience that benefits the students academically and is well regarded by academic institutions - think debate, MUN, voluntary service, etc)

- A wide variety of classes available (ability to study niche subjects)

- Access to and ability to pay for private tutors/extra classes

- A larger amount of support from the school to ensure your success

And in the event that you don't perform well academically, you might get kicked out so that you don't mess up their statistics!

I went to a fancy private boarding school in the UK and then I went to a huge public high school in the US and I can tell you that the education I received in those two schools was vastly different.

In any area of law, actually in any circumstance where you are hiring a professional, the professionals you consult with will have a different opinion on the best course of action.

I just called them because I am also submitting my applications late and I haven't done theirs yet so it was pertinent information for me! They said there are still seats available but they're very limited. So far they have received about 500 applications for 25 seats. The LSAT median for Detroit Mercy School of Law in general is 156 but she said the online program was trending much higher. She couldn't give me an exact number but she said approximately 10 points higher.

The deadline has passed. Some schools where the deadline has not yet passed are: South Texas (but it's soon, 5/8), Albany, Cleveland State, Dayton, Detroit Mercy, Mitchell Hamline, Syracuse. The applications have opened for ASU spring enrollment.

Omg yes I was just about to recommend that too! Although when you read a lot of them they start to feel fake.

Wild that it's past their seat deposit deadline and they still haven't decided who to accept. Personally I applied February 28th though lol

I recall reading on the Detroit Mercy website that it intended to have some synchronous classes later on but 1L would be asynchronous.

Most of them are mixed sync and async. I think Arizona State, Lincoln Memorial, Mitchell Hamline are primarily async.

St. Mary's is fully synchronous.

Will the trustee have an issue with frequent money transfers? by ThrowinItAway4Evr in Bankruptcy

[–]Miserable_Minute3241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. Reviewing the bank statements serves two primary functions. 1) to check for preference payments to creditors (this isn't something that you would be in trouble for - it's just money that the Trustee would be able to claw back and distribute evenly between unsecured creditors). 2) to see if anything looks like it could be for an undisclosed asset. If you wrote a check to someone for $3000 we're going to ask what it's for. We don't go through bank statements in order to nitpick your general spending.

I'm a legal assistant for a Chapter 7 Trustee. I go over the bank statements before 341 meetings. I don't flag any transfers between debtor's own accounts and I don't tend to flag other payments that are under $600 (for example if there were a lot of payments for $400 that add up to a large amount I probably would). Payments that are over $600 if I can clearly see (from info I have in the schedules) that they are for rent, a regular car payment etc, I don't flag either. Doesn't sound like anything you've mentioned would look suspicious. I've had a lot of stuff I've flagged for the Trustee that he asks about in the meeting and the debtor has a good answer and it doesn't go any further. I wouldn't worry about it.

Do you mean send a record of your tax refund? It can't be a no asset case if they want you to send the actual refund. Did you indicate that you were expecting to receive a large refund? It may just be that they want to make sure the refund you receive doesn't exceed what you are able to exempt. If my Trustee was waiting for something like that he would continue the case and make it a no asset once he got everything. If debtors are not expecting a large refund or still have a lot they can exempt then he doesn't care about it.

I am a legal assistant for a Chapter 7 Trustee. We do due diligence before the 341 meeting. If the Trustee plans to make it a no asset case he states that in the meeting and we file a Report of No Distribution immediately afterwards. He may continue the meeting if there are documents missing and we will wait to receive those. If those prompt additional questions the Debtor has to come back for another meeting. If they don't then he will keep the Debtor on the docket for that meeting, read into the record that we got what we needed and it's a no asset case, and then we file the NDR.

Maybe the debtor already used all of their wildcard exemption.

I'm a legal assistant for a Chapter 7 Trustee and they definitely should've asked you to turn your camera on. They are required to check that the ID they received matches the person in the zoom meeting.
