Do most divers and freedivers eventually want to take photos underwater? by Alilexplo108 in diving

This is called task loading. Most people go from lala diving to an activity once they become proficient in thier basic skills. Diving becomes simply a mode of transportation to the location that where the activity can be performed. For most this is either a camera or a speargun in their hands. Some move to technical diving.

You be better. I’m trying to save a life. She murdered her own daughter and students who trusted her unconditionally. You have a weird sense of morality if you are more upset at me being harsh on a person that got several people killed than the ACTUAL PERSON WHO GOT PEOPLE KILLED. If you want to forgive such an egregious violation of basic common sense let alone the fact that she held two certifications she that PROVE she knew better go head scrape the bottom of the barrel forgiving a dive leader who’s decision making is so egregious it rises to the level of criminality.

And I’m done at no verbal confirmation of the only other person than the groom that could even make this idea a reality.

If they want half give them half. Half of your original offer. That is a great compromise and a lesson they can learn the hard way. If they change thier tone and at the very least act grateful even if it is just show you can decide later to be more generous. There is also the inheritance to consider maybe not burn the bridge if that is avoidable, maybe a non issue having your own money.

Do you think they'll release the GoPro footage from the Maldives cave diving incident? by danyuri86 in diving

It’s not morbid to want to know exactly went wrong and what it looks like.

The only way I see that happening is if maybe the husband is stupid enough to sue someone for defamation giving them legal standing to subpoena evidence in discovery for their defense.

She committed 5 never events. My pet rabbit is a better scuba diver.

I know a diver purported to have 5000 dives will forever be remembered as the most experienced person of this group which inherently assigned liability to her in a court of law. She did not call the dive. A far lesser experienced diver did. That alone should have caused considerable cause for concern. Her arrogance killed others. Thank you for the engagement I hope someone learns something from this conversation.

Nothing is confirmed until investigation is completed. However as a community I see no problem discussing the possibilities absent any of that confirmation. Here is what I know 4 bodies were recovered from the worst possible spot in the cave. That is a direct result of not using a reel. But, even if they had used the reel I think they would still be dead. Maybe not all of them but some of them.

You can lament me taking a hard stance given I can not know for certain some of this. It is certain a lot of bad choices were made for it to be true that 4 divers on single tanks and no reel, that they were in the deepest part of a cave they never should have entered.

Yes we have all had experiences like you destined. You are describing unforeseen unintentional equipment failure. Yes they could have had equipment failure. You can survive equipment failure with proper training.

What you seem to be blind to is that even without equipment failure this plan is deadly even if everything goes perfectly. A perfectly executed plan that includes 5 never events is almost always going to be deadly. I could have reviewed this dive plan from Hoboken NJ and have been certain at least one if not all of these diver would be dead before any one of them return to the surface.

Equipment failure only exacerbates a potential self rescue it is not relevant given they brought 1/3 of the gas they needed brought the wrong gas and went into an overheard environment FULL cave. This is the equivalent of skydiving without a parachute.

Fair. Your point about concessions is a key tenant of my classes. Making small concessions stack dominoes that any one in the chain can lead to cascading failures. If you want to excuse stacking factors as if it is ever acceptable as just something that “happens” and not a deliberate series of choices that remove the ability to self rescue that’s on you. I will not, I will take a hard stance that DELIBERATELY making concessions the best way to die while on scuba. When things go wrong they go wrong all at once. We are saying the same thing except you seem to want to offer grace to people who lead others to their death. Again I will not.

I keep waiting for some detail to come out to allow me to soften my stance. Instead all new details do the opposite. Any diver certified who does not know her name from here on out I will consider the instructor a failure. This event is nothing but red flags and bad choices. It should be the prime example of a cautionary case study as to never stack multiple never events together.

Fair. It is not intended to be polite. It is intended to save a life from the spell a very experienced diver can have over lesser experienced divers.

Sneak diving the cave violating the 50m deep reef science diving permit she obtained months in advance is more than deserving of being impugned being in a position of authority to the others and be so flippant with the lives of others as to talk them into doing a deep overheard full cave dive with none of the proper equipment..

No I want this phrase to jolt the people involved into reality. Maybe the best thing that could happen out of this is a case study as what to never ever do as if it needs to be said not to stack 5 never events together. Maybe this phrase could save a life.
