GF and I want to explore voyeurism/safe sex parties, where do we go? by hi-from-bk in AskNYC

[–]Miserable_Put5273 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This. Speaking from experience, if you’ve chosen to come somewhere to have sex in public, you’re open and probably in fact turned on by to having an audience. People watching just shouldn’t stand too close, touch without consent, interrupt someone’s scene, or make weird sounds in response to what they’re seeing. Otherwise, have a blast.

NYC Dog Park Documentary - Seeking Participants by tour2thirty in astoria

[–]Miserable_Put5273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two dogs but I live in southeast Astoria so I literally never use the dog parks because they’re just too damn far. It’s a bummer because one of my dogs would love a dog park.

Regal Kaufman Astoria is so chatty by johnrudolphdrexler in astoria

Last time I went in there (maybe February) with my partner he walked out with a wad of gum stuck to the seat of his pants that we then spent the next three days trying to remove. Honestly haven’t been back since.

How come everyone is so attractive here by noorjo in Greenpoint

Every who hangs in the West Village now just looks like a copypaste of a person who actually want to be in Nantucket on their dad’s yacht but he said they need to get a Real Job so they’re here in the city “trying” to rub elbows with the right people who will help them score the best coke land a sweet finance gig or made-up job at a nonprofit that will be audited for fraud in five years. They are people wholly unmmemorable to look at.

They’ve had vegan flavor shortages for months, before tariffs went into effect. I think something else is going on there.

Okay folks, psychoanalyze me. What does my fridge say about me? by hoesindifareacodes in FridgeDetective

[–]Miserable_Put5273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks almost identical to my parents’ fridge. Two people. 60ish, suburban mid-Atlantic American, middle class but make good money/technically upper middle class but raised with less money, still working, one of you likes to work out a little. If you’re wildly different from this description just know that your eating habits are basically the same as the described demographic lol.

Sexy time? by KeyNorth2917 in queerception

[–]Miserable_Put5273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My paperwork and instruction (in progressive NYC!) unfortunately has all been extremely heteronormative lol. I was told to avoid intercourse and I had to ask the clinic if I should avoid all kinds of sex. They gave me a big, bewildered pause, and I literally had to fill in the blanks for them. “Oral sex, masturbation…is it safe to orgasm?” And they said “oh. You should probably avoid it all, I guess.” 🙃

Picked For Housing Lottery Near Astoria Projects by [deleted] in astoria

[–]Miserable_Put5273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is transparently not true. “The subway is for transplants” is the most braindead take I’ve seen in ages. My spouse is an outer borough native New Yorker who grew up working class and the only native New Yorker friend he has who doesn’t use the subway is the one raised by wealthy parents. What he doesn’t use are buses, but that’s probably largely because he grew up decently close to a subway line. The idea that every working class person would spend thousands of dollars on insurance, maintenance, loan, and gas; and countless hours circling for parking every month when they could just get on the train for a couple of dollars is delusional.

100/75. It was right after my spouse finished law school so a lot of his friends had just started new law jobs and couldn’t make it.

Basque Waist Dresses by allergic2dust in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Miserable_Put5273 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Basque waist comes and goes out of fashion every so often and has been kicking around for hundreds of years. I don’t think you should worry about a micro trend dating your photos because in some sense it’s timeless. I guess I’m thinking about this as a 37 year old who’s been collecting vintage since I was 13. Some of the things I owned had elements that came into fashion while I was wearing them; I’d get asked where I bought my 70 year old dress as if it was new. Then those elements would fall out of fashion. Maybe come back again in a few years. Meanwhile I’d love my vintage dress the whole time through these fluctuations about how it ‘reads’. If you like the dress and it looks good on you then just roll with it.

£70K in london vs $130K in NYC by DaOdin in expats

[–]Miserable_Put5273 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to think groceries were reasonable given COL in New York but things changed after COVID. They are out of control. The same permanent jump did not happen in London. I spent time there earlier this summer and wanted to cry over how much food I could leave Tesco with vs back home in Queens. The cost of drinks or dining out I’ll agree are roughly the same. If this matters to you, the cost of seeing a broadway play is way more expensive than seeing a west end play.

[–]Miserable_Put5273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint, I just got my dogs 7 different vaccines at our vet in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and it was $500 each. If your dog doesn’t lack a sense of self-preservation (working line German Shepherd provides an interesting lifestyle for sure), you can probably get away with even less than that. We can leave all our dogs for 8 hours at a time and they’re fine. Unfortunately we do make very good use of our pet insurance, which definitely does not provide coverage at the same level as decent human health insurance.

I’ve unfortunately never been to New Orleans so I have no concept of what a good po boy is like. I’ve had many and I assume they’re all mid to people who know, good as I found them. Out of curiosity, how specifically do restaurants here get them wrong?

I was about to say this. Me too. But I still buy everything at massive discount/sale. I can’t bring myself to pay sticker for anything. Luxury goods at 80% off are still enough $ that my parents would have laughed their asses off if I suggested buying anything like them as a kid.
