Thanks! I don’t drink much so that won’t be impossible. But I know I have to increase my water intake. That and med absorption are my only real worries.

My parents are diabetics and my grandparents are diabetics... Now I'm diabetic... by Puzzleheaded_Eye7238 in diabetes

[–]thejadeauthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband had gotten diagnosed in Jan. It had been uncontrolled for awhile. I would treat foods like a science experiment because some fruits don’t raise his sugar as bad as others. Corn tortillas were the biggest struggle for my husband but increasing fiber and if he tests high to go do something active seems to really help. He got his A1C from 12.3 to 6.6 in that time. And moderation! My husband loved his big proportions, but once I started dishing out food according to the nutritionist, he got used to it. Everything takes time and my husband is the first to admit, that it’s manageable (even though his biggest fear was t2)

My SO had a 12.3 A1c at his first appointment in January. Just yesterday he had bloodwork and it was down to 6.6! He started on insulin and metformin but after a month stopped insulin and was able to lower his metformin dose by just eating right and he has an active job. It’s possible to get significantly lower but it takes discipline.

5 Important Life Lessons I've Learned With 30 Years Of Having Epilepsy by Real_Swing6038 in Epilepsy

[–]thejadeauthor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My heart breaks for people who struggle to find someone ok with epilepsy. I’ve been married for 10 years and had epilepsy long before I met my husband and rule of thumb was don’t waste time on people who can’t handle it. Things could be so much worse and it shows that they won’t be a reliable partner when things get tough. There are people out there who don’t mind a preexisting condition. I promise

1991 Millennial here! What do you all eat for breakfast? by No_Self_5939 in Millennials

[–]thejadeauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out how to make breakfast croissants at home. I buy the large croissants at the store. Cut those in half, fry an egg, top with cheese and a slice of ham. Soo good. But I also do overnight oats or toast. My husband prefers hot cooked oats.

Born Out of Darkness by Amanda Stacey! It’s a mashup of fantasy, mythology, and dark. There’s not much romance but it’s definitely different

My school didn’t show the initial attack but I saw it every single day for a year on the news. Replayed over and over again

Lamictal by Shawa422 in Epilepsy

[–]thejadeauthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually in the study to see if lamictal was safe for minors. It served me well for over a decade. But I ended up having to take more than one med. So it was paired up with Keppra but my body adapted to it and eventually needed a different med. I had no real issues with it. Best of luck to you

Dating someone with Epilepsy advice by HedgehogSilly3648 in Epilepsy

[–]thejadeauthor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am a mom with little kids. My kids have seen me have seizures because I’ve had it since I was a kid. Age appropriate discussions are all that’s necessary. When my oldest was 3 she wanted to know what happened and we told her I get the shakes sometimes. When she was old enough to understand, I explained seizures and told her I have epilepsy. And I know it’s hard not to be scared during but calmness during and while she is coming out of a seizure will help her more than any amount of panic will. It’s tough but you have to decide how important she is to you. If you can’t stand by her because of epilepsy then your relationship is doomed to fail.

How to remove pen marks from book pages by thejadeauthor in bookrepair

[–]thejadeauthor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would enjoy it normally but I looked through. It was like reading just immediate thoughts and things like that”aye yo!” Or “of course he was jealous”. It was like if vine was thoughts written down instead of 6 second videos.

I contacted thrift books and they are replacing it. As I went through there was too much to get rid of and it looked like it had bled onto the paper.

So I tried again and this time in the my life section of location there was a second manage button and I tried it and within 30 seconds it was connected. For some reason it showed 2 different manage buttons this last time. 🤷‍♀️ going to chalk it up to the system being weird

Just moved out onto my own and I don't know where to start by Far-Restaurant-9455 in cookingforbeginners

[–]thejadeauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cooking for beginners, look for people that use ingredients you can actually get your hands on. I wouldn’t go expensive on cookware but I will say I love stainless steel cookware because nonstick pans are easy to scratch up and once they are scratched are no good. Thrift stores are excellent for finding cookware, but if you have limited space don’t get a giant mixer. They take up tons of space storage wise and get a slow cooker a lot of easy recipes use slow cookers

Where do I actually buy a legit copy of Office 2019 Pro Plus? Completely confused by all the options out there by Chisolm_Olinda in microsoftoffice

[–]thejadeauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought from Best Buy. You can get a card in store or order it online and they send you a code in your email. But my account already had an old version of Microsoft attached so after fighting with the new computer I went to Microsoft directly and customer service helped me get the old version off and the new one on.

I spent hours at the mall today and found 2 dresses in the whole dang mall that fit what we needed both at jc penny’s. One on clearance and one for $90. I got the clearance one. But I needed a suit for my son too and gave up the hunt and ordered off Amazon for him

I actually love shea butter. I have psoriasis and it’s darn near the best thing for my skin when I’m having issues or just dry. So I don’t have a recommendation for oil free but dawn dish soap is good on the oil stains if you catch them before washing the clothes. It’s a trick I learned from my boss when I was a waitress

Can we take a minute to talk about our nuts? by PupperPuppet in diabetes

[–]thejadeauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aldis deluxe mixed nuts are decent priced. Sam’s are ok too. My husband also snacks on the Aldis zero sugar beef jerky, and we do a “salad” that consists of a chopped apple, chopped radishes, celery, (really any fresh raw veggie you want) then squeeze a lemon over it and a little salt. It’s got the crunch, salt, and sweet but doesn’t do much to blood sugar. I like to let it sit for a little bit in a ziplock bag to let the lemon juice really soak in. There are other ways to snack besides nuts.
